Junk Lack of Knowledge from Nissan on how to fix their own cars. I purchased my car 3-4 months ago. The Car has had nothing but problems! I got the lemon of ALL CARS. It has been in the shop for 8 weeks (50% of the time I've had it) Some of the major parts replaced are: Catalytic Convert Engine Transmission The car has had problems the Nissan Tech Line has never heard of.. I am the tester boy.. I picked the car up on Christmas Eve after getting a new engine in, by Christday day the transmission was shot (nice road test boys) I picked the car up today after the transmission was replaced, and IT DOES NOT DRIVE ANYTHING LIKE IT DID BEFORE. It drives like a 1980 Pinto. Nissan Refuses to buy this lemon back, and the dealership won't. I suppose I can see why they wouldn't want to buy back the car, they would take a small loss on it. My Advice, don't buy one, if they don't know how to fix it, they guess. I would NEVER EVER BUY ONE AGAIN Similar Products Used: 1998 Honda Accord Coupe |

Reliable, reliable, reliable...
Weakness:
There are none. I purchased my car almost 4 years ago. At that time it had about 75K miles on it. But I love Nissans and they have been in my family forever. I have to say, that at 150K miles, I am performing my first wear/tear problem. My car has run great so far and now I'm dealing with the CV Boot tearing on both the front and right side. I've opted to fix this as I just can't bear to get rid of such a great car - after all it's about $650 and I can't buy anything new for that. And as an FYI, my father has a 1993 Altima that he still drives - it has close to 300K freeway miles on it and he's never replaced the anything (including the clutch) except for the brakes. This car will get up and go I would not want any more power. On the freeway or around town this car does not lack the power to make it king of the road.
Weakness:
After bragging about the power of this 3.5 240 horsepower engine I should not complain about fuel economy but it is not very good on gas This is a great looking car, very stylish. The stereo is unreal, you wonder how they make it sound so good without a subwoofer. The leather interior makes this my favorite nissan and I have owned five. Similar Products Used: Mamima,Lumina |

Nissan Altima 2.5 S w/5 spd
Strength:
*very good acceleration with 5 spd manual *sexy styling *4 doors *reasonable economy *roomy interior with ample trunk space *excellent people mover *fun to drive
Weakness:
*burns 1.5 qts. of oil every 3,000 miles *plastic interior that lacks refinement *poorly designed locking mechanisms and hinges for sunglass holder, CD holder and glove compartment. This car may be an excellent choice for family people who want a fairly safe car with good performance, sexy styling and fair gas mileage. During a recent road trip from Berkeley, CA to Los Angeles (400 miles), my father-in-law, seated in the rear, commented that the car was both spacious and comfortable. As other readers have stated elsewhere, the after-market leather seats ($1,000.00) are worlds better than the spongy-feeling stock cloth seats. During the road trip, I averaged 75 + miles/hour and gas mileage was approximately 25.5 miles/gallon. A much appreciated feature is the tilt/telescoping steering column that ensures a good fit for most drivers. The convenience package is well worth the additional $1,500.00, since it adds a nicer steering wheel and 8-way powered seats. Acceleration is excellent with a 5 speed manual, and the car is smooth on well-mainained roads. While there is a fair amount of road hum on rougher surfaces, the 4 wheel independent suspension soaks up harsher bumps and potholes with aplomb. The Altima has good road manners, corners and stops well. However, the large steering radius means that U-turns will be obtuse and may require backing up to complete the U-turn on narrower, 2 lane roads. The stereo quality is such that an aftermarket stereo will not be needed by most people. With all of the positives of this car, it would be easy to overlook the cheap, plastic interior of this car. However, there is one nagging question that may be answered only after the 36,000 mile warranty runs out. As a do-it-yourselfer who also travels a great deal (I log on 2,000 + miles each month for work)I make sure to check the oil level with each fueling and I change the oil at 3,000 mile intervals. Since owning this car, I've noticed that it burns up 1.5 qts. of oil every 3,000 miles. Upon contacting 3 different Nissan technicians, I was told by each that 1.5 qts oil consumption is normal. One service technician even stated that Nissan is building its engines to "looser tolerances" in the name of longevity. Go figure! If anything, I would imagine that tighter tolerances would result in longer engine life. The frustrating part is that I likely will not know if the engine truly is defective until I've driven it for a couple of years (by then it will have 40,000 miles on it and be past the warranty coverage period). By comparison, my 1994 Chevy S-10 (6 cylinder) never loses any oil, even after 5,000 miles of driving. While I still enjoy driving this car and hope that it lasts for 200,000 + miles, I am fairly certain that the 2003 Honda Accord would have been a more worry-free car. Shifter feel...kinda notchy....only, i mean only complaint...I see nothing wrong with my interior at all. Love the looks! Awesome engine. 5 speed is the only way to go. I test drove a 2003 Accord and I immediately went to the Nissan dealer to drive the Altima. This is not the car I expected to be driving. The stereo is great. Where is the subwoofer...it sounds like it's there, but it's not. Just fantastic. Similar Products Used: 1997 Honda Civix Hx, 1997 Nissan Maxima (This Altima blows it away) |

Altima SE
Strength:
- Good accelaration w/ the 5sp tranny. - 4 wheel disk breaks. - Cloth seats offer a fair comfort level on long trips, rear occupants (2) have plenty of leg space. - Large trunk becomes larger when the rear seats are folded. -Visibility is good, blind spots are not a big problem. - Avg. 26 mpg... great for someone who cruises at 70+ mph. - Road manners.... Awesome! - It's a 5sp which means I'm the only driver... my friends aren't capable of shifting and talking at the same time;)
Weakness:
- Wind noise is bothersome above 60 mph, the quick fix to this minor problem is as follows: 1) insert your favorit CD. 2) adjust the volume. - It's a challenge to run through the shift gates at start-up in cold temps ( 35 degrees or less). - Like most cars there's a noticable drop in power when the A/C is on. After only ten months with my new (used) car I'm completely satisfied with just about everything the Altima has to offer. I have driven the Altima more than 15k and in that time span my complaints are minimal at best. This was a huge upgrade compaired to what I was driving ('94 Dodge Shawdow). Anyone in the market for a reliable (so far!) used car must put the Altima on their list!!! |

Good pickup (155 hp) Great on gas Roomy trunk inside saftey gas lever perfect for me!!
Weakness:
seats could be a little more comfy but other than that - NONE! I bought this car in 2001, it was the last Altima on the lot so they could make room for their new releases. I was looking for a 4 door and something that was good on gas and boy did I find it! This car has been good to me in the last 2 years but unfortunatley I may have to sell due to a new marriage and 2 new stepkids and a future child on the way. This car has 155 HP and has great take off and I drive 50+ miles a day and have had nothing but good luck with this car. I am gonna miss it when she goes but may stick to another Nissan. This is also my first "foreign" car and with my past experiences, this is by far the best. Strength:
Exquisite euro styling, tons of room, very powerful and quiet 4 cyl. and very reasonable price. Car looks 10 grand more expensive.
Weakness:
Road noise and wind noise are definitely higher than appropriate for this car. I wonder whether spending a few bucks on undercoating might mute some of this noise. Only a week's worth of ownership but I can say that I am very pleased with the vehicle. I came from a Mitsubishi Galant V6 and the performance of this 4 cyl. is the equal of it both off the line and in highway passing. Far roomier than my Galant and I removed any questions about so-called cheapness in the interior by having an aftermarket leather package installed. The interior looks nothing short of fantastic with this option. Super Black with gorgeous gray leather. Tons of room and styling? Well I took a friend to lunch today who isn't much into cars (he drives a Taurus) and he was frothing at the mouth. He was sure this was an Audi A6 or at least a VW Passat. Wouldn't stop talking about the car all through lunch and even called a friend of his on his cell to talk about it. My only real complaint is louder than expected road and wind noise. Funny how some seem to think this isn't really the case, but I definitely notice it. Similar Products Used: 99 Mitsubishi Galant V6. I was quite happy with this car but feel the Altima is superior in most every way. |
