(1997 Model) - Its a good big car. I only get about 20 miles per gallon. I've only had two problems with this car. One was my own fault. A tape got stuck. The other was the battery.

Strength:

Strong Engine, Good Handling and Turning. Good Pickup and Acceleration both off the start and on highways. Leather is a must. Stereo is nice. I reccommend the wood grain kit to break up the interior. Overall for the money, there is no other car to compare. Protege, Corolla, Honda Civic.. they don't compare. Take advantage of the $2000 cash back while it lasts, you will not be dissappointed....

Weakness:

None so far...

I was originally going for the Sentra SE, because I wanted the sport suspension and sportier look. But after getting the numbers, it cam close to $19,000. So after finding out about the $2000 cash back on the Altima, that made the price only a bit more than the Sentra SE, but a lot more value. It looks great, love the 16-inch wheels and alloy rims, sunroof is sweet, 6-disc in dash changer is impressive, great stereo... just add the subwoofer if you want.

Corolla- not enough pickup. Civic- too small, everyone has one

Strength:

Interior design is nice
Car has started every time I have turned the key
Pretty good speakers (factory head unit should be replaced though)
Nice car for the money
Pretty good gas mileage (anywhere from 24-27 MPG)
Decently attractive car

Weakness:

Uncomfortable seats
Cheap factory hubcaps
Lots of little problems with it
Bumpy ride
Expensive to fix
Lots of road noise
Cheap seats
Paint peels on bumper

The car drives really well. I love the gas pedal--it has an expensive feel. I bought the car with 65k miles on it. The oxygen sensor had to be replaced right off, but that was relatively inexpensive. All through high school, the car gave me no real trouble. I had an oil leak and the battery had to be replaced, but nothing out of the ordinary. The breaks have always squeaked, and the light on the shiftplate comes on maybe half the time. For the first few months after purchasing the car, I noticed it was sometimes difficult to shift the car out of park.

When I got to college, everything started to go wrong. By that time it was up to 80k or so. First, the A/C went (in the hottest part of the summer). The mechanic couldn't seem to find the leak, so we forked out $500 for a new compressor. I thought everything was working fine, but no less than 2 weeks later, the air went out again. Turns out it was the condenser, which was another $600. The factory hubcaps peeled really bad and started rotting, so I had to replace them with the new style of Altima hubcap (which actually looks nicer). The belts started to go around 85k. I had them all replaced, but now, at 99k, they're acting up again, and when I turn, the car makes a popping noise (no fluids are leaking).

The shocks are about dead.. the car shakes even on smooth roads. The weather stripping is rotting and the window tape is peeling. The transmission lags.. I think it's about ready to be replaced. Just yesterday, I took it to the carwash, and a 2-inch square area of paint just washed right off of the front bumper. I don't know if it's the silver color or what, but the paint chips very easily. I've about had it with this car...

Strength:

Good acceleration for a 4 cylinder. Handling is a good balance between sporty and luxurious. The 8-way power driver's seat is Lazy Boy comfortable. Not one problem to report.

Weakness:

Relatively large turning circle. It thought it would have been a little easier in tight quarters.

You've got to love this car!! Sporty elegance at an affordable price!! This car is very well-assembled and solid. I also have a 1996 Sentra and quality, affordability, and reliability seem to run in the family.

Car tends to jump when you push the gas too hard

I've had my car for a over a year and a half and I still love it. I owned a 97 Sentra before and this is a nice upgrade. Mine has 27,000 miles on it
and all I've done is change the oil. I choose Platinum which looks really great on the car, I've seen the pictures for the next Altima it looks awesome. It was between this and an Accord and the Altima was $3000 cheaper, had more options and didn't come with that cheap looking black body molding.

Strength:

So comfortable with the plush 8-way powered drivers seat. The stereo is great and my friends say there's a lot of room in the back. I'm only in college, but I think it would make a great family car. The remote keyless entry is great. I feel so much safer.

Weakness:

I'm finding it a little hard to adjust with blind spots.

I'm leasing mine for $185/mo; $3,000 down (including the spoiler I had put on), but I fully intend to buy it out at the lease's end. My dad liked it so much he got the SE, 6 weeks later, for 18,300 with the $2,000 cash back. (I'm so jealous.) Today my friends neighbor stopped me to ask about my car; she liked it so much she decided this will be her next car. Come on, I love it so much I took the time to fill this whole thing out. I see the commercials and I am so proud. I was actually against getting an Altima becaue I didn't like the look of anything before 2000. But I test drove one, and saw the newer look and I was sold.

I just sold my 1989 Camry DX, which held up nicely. It did get about 28 miles to the gallon, whereas the Nissan gets about 23/24. Even in these day of sky high gas prices, I wouldn't change my car for any other.

Strength:

Heads up speed on windshield, 94 is first year with airbags and last year with heads up display. No repairs in 7 years of Arctic driving and Houston TX driving. The high end stereo with 6 speakers (tweeters in window pillars) and individual amps in the rear speakers. Sunroof, alloy wheels.

Weakness:

The cup holder right in front of the stereo....
The CD player skips and stopped working this week, I'm mad! That is why I am writing this report. Not everything works well on these cars. I cleaned the CD etc.. but it is still not working right and I expect better.
The alloy wheels clearcoat is all peeling and ugly.

Nice looking car esp. with tinted windows. Irridecent gunmetal blue paint is beautiful. The shape is always in style. The heads up speed display in the GLE instead of leather is worth it to a gadget freak like me. I only have about 60K miles on this car.

I have no comparison but rental cars. It reminds me of the 2001 Dodge cars. Cirrus, and Malibu.
