We bought a 1993 Sentra in 1996 and drove it for 3 years. It was an awesome car. Never let us down. Liked it so much we bought a 1999. Going on 23,000 miles, and still no problems to report. Mileage is very good. I'm a 50-mile a day commuter, and usually get about 35 mpg. (Although I did even better with my 1993.)

It's a compact car, and you can tell. But if you wanted a bigger car, you'd buy a bigger car, right? It's big enough for a compact, and the 5-speed has plenty of power (1.6L engine). Not quite as much as my 1993 had.

My only other complaint about the 1999 is its turning radius isn't quite as good as my 1993. I could do a U-turn into an adjacent lane in my 1993. Nowadays I usually have to cross 2 or 3 lanes to make a U-turn.

Paid $14,000 for my 1999, with lots of features. Paid $6500 for the 1993 when it was 3 years and 38,000 miles old. Have been looking into mid-size cars, and from what I can tell, it's a great price if you can handle a compact size.

Strength:

A good looking car. Interior pleasing to the eye.

Weakness:

Cup holders affect radio programming. Fabric on doors loosened.

For me a vehicle need to look good, start with one turn of the ignition everytime and have a very pleasing and confortable cabin. Immediately upon purchasing this car I experienced some problem when the car seemed to neutralise while in drive. This was addressed by the dealer, since then, this vehicle has literally been trouble free. I consider the Sentra a very classy, compact family vehicle, and perfectly suitable for navigating the relatively narrow roads on which I drive.

classy body style and interior, awesome stereo system if u go with the 180 watt system, handles very well for a compact $15000 car, rides as good as a more expensive vehicle...alarm system and keyless entry are great options along with the fold down rear seats which i have used already and its a great feature to have....

Weakness:

so far none i can think of....oh maybe it could use a touch more leg room in the backseat but it is a compact so i guess that has to be expected....

I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 2500 MILES BUT SO FAR I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE. THIS IS MY SECOND FAMILY CAR SO WE NEEDED SOMETHING GOOD ON GAS AND THAT WILL LAST AT LEAST 10 YEARS. SO FAR GAS MILEAGE ISNT BAD IT ISNT GETTING CLOSE TO THE 31 MPG IT SAYS IT IS SUPPOSED TO BUT IT IS STARTING TO GET CLOSER. IT COSTS BOUT $12 A TANK FULL AND IT LAST 6 - 8 DAYS WHICH I DONT THINK IS BAD.THIS CAR RIDES AND HAS FEATURES OF A $20000 CAR..IF U DECIDE TO BUY PLEASE GET THE CONVIENCE AND PERFORMANCE PACKAGE. FOR ABOUT $800 YOU GET ALOT OF GREAT OPTIONS.ONCE AGAIN I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THIS CAR AND EXPECT TO HAVE IT FOR A LONG TIME IF YOU BUY IT YOU WILL BE PLEASED ALSO

Strength:

I bought this car 5 years ago, when I was still in college. I have not owned another car since, and for good reason. Its a little car, but it has a lot of headroom inside (I am 6'1") and a great view out of the car in all directions. It has more room than my wife's 1986 Pontiac Grand Am.
The Nissan handles superbly, on any surface. You can have fun down a mountain road, cruise at 80 on the interstate, or even let the tail hang out on a gravel backroad. The car takes corners well with surprisingly little body roll. It only understeers when you push it hard...very neutral overall. The car also handles beautifully on rainy days...in fact those days are the most fun because you can let the little car slide around a bit!
Reliability is excellent. The only things I have had to replace on the car are obvious for a vehicle with 180K miles: CV Joints, lower ball joints, and an alternator. Not a single problem from the engine, and even the body looks pretty good after all these Great Lakes winters.
If you can still find a mid-80's Sentra for sale, dont hesitate. They are cheap, reliable, and fun to drive. It was my first car, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Weakness:

I have had a problem with the carb lately...the vehicle hesitates a bit when it gets warm. I am still trying to figure out the problem, but it has not affected the car's reliability, just its performance now and then. If you can find a fuel injected model, go for it.

I will cry the day my beloved Sentra passes away. This car has meant very much to me, and has been with me through it all. I have driven 1000 mile trips with this car loaded to the roof and sagging on the springs, and she keeps truckin'. One day I will have to lay her to rest, and buy....you guessed it, another Sentra. Maybe a 2002 Sentra SE-R!

Strength:

*Very Reliable (just turned over to 100K with zero prblems)
*Decent Room
*So-so Power
*Great Gas Mileage
*Styling is more subdued than flashy cars
*Handles well for a cheaper model

Weakness:

*Power is weak up hills until I turn off overdrive
*Safety probably isn't too good
*Ride is rough on some roads

I love my little Sentra. Turned over to 100,000 miles 2 days ago. I have done regular maintenance to keep her going. The car actually has some pep once I get it going up to a high speed. I am able to pass on steep hills as long as I turn overdrive off. I do enjoy driving this little car. I plan on keeping it for a few more years. The new Sentras look very sporty. I may look into a newer model when this one dies (someday). I give it 5 stars for its wonderful reliability, gas mileage, and being such a good car.

This is a follow-up report from a pre-purchase review I made about three weeks ago. Yes, I did buy this little jewel, and want to rave about it! It's VERY peppy and the low-end, torquey variable-valve timing, 126 HP powerpalnt will make it scoot around urban traffic quite easily. I think it's far more useful to have a such an engine work at the lower RPMs, unlike Honda's VTEC, which if for racing cars. The 5-speed is the only transmission for purists (although the automatic shifts nicely), the car looks great, amazingly bright headlights for night driving, solid brakes, certainly a TON more stylish than the new Civics and Corollas, has a great radio/CD player, very comfortable, superb fit/finish, has two 12 V outlets, plus a nice armrest that is designed to hold 5 CDs. Our local dealership included a block heater in the PDI charge. My GXE came with Bridgstone P186/65/R14's, a nice BONUS, as many come with cheap Dunlop rubber.

Weakness:

The suspension is firm and supple, but doesn't absorb the bumpy Nova Scotia roads (we have the WORST roads in the country!)like my 1997 Honda Civic. Yes, beware of that coinbox/fues panel holder!

I have limited experinece with the new Sentra (1000 klicks), but I think Nissan has hit a major home run with this car! It makes the new Civic and Corolla look pathetic, by comparison. I was always a "Honda" man, but couldn't accept the poor effort (IMHO) of the latest Civic. The Accord is a nice car, but too expensive for my driving. Anyway, I think that Nissan are pulling themselves out of their financial slump, and this newly-designed Sentra will help them go a long way. I had toyed with the idea of buying the new Golf, but Japanese car quality has won me over for life.

Strength:

•Excellent power above 4100 RPM's
•Wants to just take off once in the power band
•Rev's easily, keeps begging for more
•Nice solid ride, suspension is excellent
•I love the five-speed, the only way to buy a car this beautiful
•Large back seat, very roomy

Weakness:

•I don't know if its always like this, but the clutch does not seem to wants to come back after it is depressed all the way. It is as if something is kinda hooking onto it when it is all the way down
•Could be a little bit more torque at the low RPM's (2000-3500 )
•Back seet is a lil' odd. It feels as if you are sitting on a seatbelt or something, however, its just the edge of the seat liping upwards to the backrest
•Not to easy to find performance parts and upgrades for the exterior of the car

•Welp, my brother and I recieved this car as our very first car for ourselves to drive. We fight over it all the time cus we both love driving it so much. My father was the one who test-drove it first and his first 4 words when he saw the tacometer in the car were "I'm gonna dump it." Welp, he did, and it was a kik-in-the-pants acceleration after the powerband was reached. The car just took off almost saying "yeh ya want soem more of me. I dare ya to take me faster." Well, he succumbed to it, and we were well above 75 on some back roads in the blnk of an eye. Going that fast through some back country roads is a feat for every car, however, i have not been in a car in the sameprice range tht handled like this one.

Great gas milage! Very reliable. Over 111,500 miles with low maintenence. Great on long trips.

Weakness:

Replaced CV joints, altinator, and when a little plastic part in the power windows breaks, you have to spend $140 on a large replacement part that may or may not fit depending on whitch factory your model was made at.

VERY nice car for the money. I would definately look to get another Sentra if this one ever decides to give up on me. I expect to get another 90 to 100,000 miles from this little jewel!

I do have some dificulty finding the going rate for my model Sentra due to the fact that the blue book seems to leave out the limited edition, the LE is not the same.

Strength:

Peppy little engine. It had very comfortable seats and the car looks great. It was a very reliable car and held up to all my beating on it. The sentra is a very queit car. It came with an alarm, power locks, windows and steering. It aslo had a moon roof.

Weakness:

The paint is not so great. The clutch is pretty weak, but it will kepp your transmission from breaking. The stereo speakers are crappy. Has a pea shooter for an exhaust.

Overall this is a great car. Not even a Honda Civic can compare to this car. The 5 speed is peppy, yet the automatic I found was a little slugish. With a basic tune up it was pretty easy to chirp 2nd gear.
