Strength:

This car seems like it will run forever. Very powerfull for a 1.6L engine. Great mpg at around 30 highway. Drive about 320 miles per week and only need to fill up once a week. GREAT on the pocketbook....Havent changed oil since 90,000 (car has 140,000). Still runs like a champ..

Weakness:

BAD Exhaust..... Slight oil leek (might have to do with not changing in over 50,000). Can't think of anything I would change...

Great car to own for a work car. Gets you were you want to go everytime. Cant beat the price for the car or the upkeep on it.

Strength:

The engine ( 2.0 ) is awesome compared to the competition, The quality of materials used in the cabin, the solidity of the car especialy at high speeds, th elay out of the dash board. The performance package upgrade is well worth the price. I get 27 mpg around town and I got 33 mpg on a 410 mile trip to Arizona and that was averaging 85-90 MPH. ( I have the 5spd. )

Weakness:

The tires that came standard are horrible ( Firestone Firehawk GTA ) . The tires showed lots of wear at 8,000 miles and they were a nightmare in the rain. I replaced them with Kumho Ecsta 711 tires now I feel like I have a whole diferent car ( For the better). I took the car in for a warranty job, the fan control knob light wasn't working, and the service dept. was not customer friendly.

I traded my 1994 Sentra in for my new 2000 SE. The 1994 Sentra had 93K miles at trade in, and in all those miles all I did was replace the tires once. Im hoping for the same dependability in my 2000. The 2.0 engine is, as far as what i've read, one of the most durable engines ever built. Im banking on that. This Sentra 2000 SE is such an awesome car, it feels like a $30,000 european coupe, especialy at freeway speeds and on open twisty roads. My boss at work took mine for a test at lunch one day and the next week he bought a Sentra SE, but he bought the red one. Oh ya i've never had so many inquiries on a vehicle before I bought this one.

Very torquey and a definate sleeper. I race this car all the time.
And its perfect 46k miles on it already

Weakness:

Needs Bigger brakes, and sunroof standard on SE.

This car is just awesome for 16.5k theres not much that compares
besides the Civic Si which the SE is faster than with less HP
and the Golf 1.8t and this smokes that too.

civic - no comparsion the Sentra SE blows the civic Si away in torque but the Si revs nicely.

Strength:

Great value. A lot of trunk space.

Weakness:

Relatively sluggish acceleration. A standard transmission is a must on this car. After 5-6 years, continuous problems with muffler and lighting.

Great economy car. Purchased in 1991 and have put 150,000 km on it. Things to watch for: muffler is always falling, rust tends to accumulate faster if not treated, problems with both rear and front (day) lights not always coming on.
Overall however it measures up to a Toyota in economy and value.

Model Reviewed: Sentra SE with perf pac.

Strength:

Everything except stereo.

Weakness:

I'd like to have a tape deck in block with the CD. I have lots of tapes I can't use, you see.

I think I am the first to review a 2000 model Sentra.
My car is an SE five speed with a performance package.
Its avalanche white.
Some essentials:
The car is a two liter, five speed sedan with limited slip differential and sport stage II suspension.
This car is a top of the line in Sentra.
The detailed specs you can get off the www.nissan-usa.com
I choose a five speed since I wanted the LSD.

Automatic is perfectly adequate, especially with this engine. I drove seven of these cars in different trim, and can testify to the adgility of the auto version.

This is not a usual compact car. Its made with detail that's a derivative of the Infinity. Sheet metal appears stronger than that of any car in the class. There's a strengthening indent running along the sides of the car below the elbow level that is not used by other japaneese compacts which makes them vulnerable against shopping carts etc. This car enspires confidence. I like it. Very good headlights. They are supperior to that of 1999 Avalon despite the class difference.

Comfortable, supportive seats, upscale controls and conveniences layout. I love the cruise control mounted on the right of the steering wheel where it can be operated by the thumb.
I highly recommend the incabin air filter. Its $80 but well worth it(the road is a dirty place).
The stereo... The woofer which is a part of the 180W sound sys is making the rear view mirror vibrate, which is unsettling.
The car is very safe due to sport suspension. Five speed is well geared and shifts excellent. The LSD reduces plow significantly.
The stage II sport suspension may be too "informative" for some. If you are looking to get a family car, omit the performance package.

The terms of $500 cash back and agreable sales staff where nice, but where not the key to choosing this car.
Civic dropped out of the list for small noisy engine, sopebox interior and exterior. Its exterior suggests that you are dealing with a very small and inexpensive car which isn't reflected in the price.
Protege is a great automobil, yet the rear passengers room is almost minivan like. It was too much for me, but may be suitable for some.
Corolla is very camrylike, which at Corolla size makes it look weak and inexpressive.
The VW Jetta made a good empression, but the reliability record turned me off. Also, how can there be such high demand in America for the cheapest German automobil? Is there really something superior in the car for the masses?

In 2000 the Sentra rules.

Strength:

Quick Acceleration, Nice look, Good car for the money.

Weakness:

Do not get as good of mileage as i would like.

I paid a little under $14K for mine, fully loaded. This is
one advantage to waiting until toward the end of the year to purchase.

I think that the Civic is a little nicer looking and has the reputation of being very reliable, but it is not worth the 3-4 thousand more for the same options.
I was looking for something a little bit more sporty than the Toyota Corolla, and the only reason that I reason i did not choose the Saturn is because i have never had much luck with American cars.

I am a recent college grad, and with this car, i am able to combine practicality and sportiness. It is very hard to find the 99's around anymore. I have checked out the redesigned 2000 Sentra and they are equally impressive. I would recommend checking them out toward the end of 2000 if you are interested. Right now there is a lot of hype for this car at the dealerships and in the media, so yu are less likely to get a good deal.
The SE is better looking witht the additional options than the XE and GXE. The advantages to the latter are that they get better gas milage and the sticker is a little lower.

I am happy with the choice i made for the time being. I hope to say the same thing 5 years down the road.

good build quality and features for price. steering feel.

Weakness:

pathetic pickup. dips a lot in turns. has no power for a passing gear to exist. not so great depreciation, very strange for a japanese model. automatic was picky with gears, it would pick a good gear but then decide to drop to a lower one.

get a used sentra se if you have the money. the gxe is good but is missing some important things like handling and acceleration. look into a 2000 sentra.

Strength:

Great Gas mileage and very low maintanace. Only had to get drive belts replaced, but car is still under warranty. Size allows for good city driving. The price was also good considering I got p/w,p/l,cruise control, tilt steering and automatic transmission. Acceleration is o.k. when the car is not full with people. Stock radio isn't bad compared to some other cars out there.

Weakness:

Engine is a bit weak. A little more power would make this car an even better buy.

Overall this is a very good car. I paid just over 15k for it brand new. I'm a college student so the great gas mileage and low maintanace is a plus for me. If you are young and want a good car for a low price or if you have a small family then the Nissan Sentra is the car for you. The only thing I would change is that it have a stronger engine, but that is why they have the Sentra SE which comes with a 140hp engine instead of the base 115hp.
