Strength:

Good gas mileage, comfortable, reliable.

Weakness:

Hard to start if it sits for a few days. Engine is not powerful.

This is my second Sentra, and has 178,000 miles on it. My 84 Sentra had 156,000 miles on it. I get 37 mph on highway. Roomy and comfortable, not a lot of power. Have replaced alternator, starter, front struts. Will buy another one when this one dies.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, lots of features for the money compared to similar compact cars from Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford etc. Great value for the money.

Weakness:

Weak engine (maybe I should have considered the SE or SE-R Model). It struggles on hills & the engine seems a little loud in high speeds (65 mph +)

I bought this car mainly as a commute car & so far it hasn't disappointed me. I've put approximately 45k miles on it without any problem. I moved from California to Colorado with it & I only had to stop for gas 3 times (good gas mileage!). About the only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of power... but I was willing to sacrifice power for good mileage before I bought the car. Would I buy from Nissan again?.... you bet. But I would probably upgrade to a car with more power.

Strength:

Stock 6 speed, 17" tires, interior looks custom. Very comfortable on highways.

Weakness:

Notchy shifter, paint quality. Wouldn't recommend 02 interior with any color but black or red.

Great car. Bought the 100k mile warranty but that was a waste, I don't think I'll need it. Surprisingly great highway car, i drove it up and down the east coast and didn't feel cramped or uncomfortable once. My only big gripe is the paint and a little annoyance would be the shifter. The paint has not held up well at all. I have a bunch of little scratches and chips in a little over a year. My friends 97 BMW's paint looks better. The shifter is notchy, not as bad as other cars I've driven but can't be hard to change gears sometimes. Very good bang for the buck though, may not be as fast as an SRT-4 but I guarantee the quality is better.

Model Reviewed: Sentra SE

Strength:

* Adaquate power (145 HP). However, comes with this power, there is some torque steer. * Brakes directly sourced from the Altima. That is why the Sentra (much lighter than Altima) brakes very fast and linear. * Handling is very good with the sports suspension, and it makes a small turning circle.

Weakness:

* The orignal equipment Firstone Firehawk is actually pretty good tire, inspite of all the bad rep of Firestone tires for the SUV's. I have no problem with them. They even can run deflated, that is why it allows the owners to be a little careless with them, and got into a false sense of security. The size (195-55R-16)(rated at 120mph) is also hard to find except at the Firestone store. I have since changed them at Discount Tires for the Yokahoma 205-50ZR16 (Z means it can go up to 150mph) (V rated means it can go up to 180mph). As it turns out, there are many manufacturers for this size. This is the reason you can find them earsier, and because they are more readily available, they are cheaper. I found that the Sentra-SE actually can take 205-50R16,205-55R16, and 215-50R16. Going to these sizes give you better chances to find replacements and lower prices, and they are wider tires. * Rack&pinion steering wears out too fast. Fortunately it was covered by warrenty both times. I recommend getting the extended warrenty when buying cars. It seems excessive ($925 for 100,000 miles or 7 years), but one repair (Rack&pinion $1,700) will payback in no time.

I was tempted to write this review as soon as bought it. However, I decided to defer judgement after I have driven it for a while. I bought this car brand new, and this is the second year anniversary. First, I bought this car with the sports package, which come with front tower braces between the McPherson strut towers. Rear spoiler, sport tuned suspension, ABS on all four disc, sport molding all around. The sport package was well worth the money. At first I regreted because I didn't hold out for the SE-R. However, the SE-R has a bigger engine, which is more power, but uses more gas also. So it is a trade off. I think that this car with 145 Horse Power, is quite adaquate. I have taken the car to 120 mph and the car does not seem laboring at all. As a matter of fact, the car was very smooth at that speed, and stuck to the road with no floating effect. I think the rear spoiler helped. So far I have 2 major problem with the car, both time was the rack&pinion steering mechanism wearing out. Once at 25,000 miles, and once at 50,000 miles. Other than that, the car had been trouble free.

SE very sporty i almost crashed it when i drove it. 1st gear picks up quick.

Weakness:

Strong but i know a 3000 or 300 would murder me. even a 3000/300 stock could rip me car if i souped it up

My Dad brought a 1991 sentra SE 5 speed 2dr from a lady across the street for 300.00 the car had 120k on it but still runs strong now after two years it has 159k and is still running strong.he added a stero and replaced the stock muffler with a long ugly one. he prefers to drive this car over his 2001 mitsubishi montero sport. The 1994 xe is automatic but runs good he got it from a guy on 6-16-03 we have to see about that one.

Strength:

Everything, great interior size for compact car, Runs smooth/quiet, very good brakes, Good trunk space, lots of options for not much money

Weakness:

cubholders and change box in bad positions, not as much HP as my husbands 1.6L Honda, buttons a little cheezy

When I bought this car, I did several months of research. What it came down to was reliability, price, and size (car and motor). The Sentra was rated very highly by it's owners, and had the most bang for my buck.

reliable, maintainance free and great gas mileage. I owned this car for 4 years(100k - 175k) and the only thing that I replaced is the starter. I highly recommened this car if you look for the maintainance free car. You will know how reliable of this car after you own it.

Model Reviewed: Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V

Strength:

Sporty looks excellent handling/braking a plethora of options at a fun-and- performance-for-the-dollar value lots of torque for a 4-banger "character" and "charm"

Weakness:

torque steer Winter tires a must Some lack of quality with interior climate-control knobs

Where should I start? Yes, the Spec-V has its flaws. The torque steer is crazy (make sure you have BOTH hands on the steering wheel when you hit the gas!), the gear shifter takes some getting used to (maybe there's a clandestine Spec-V club where members know how to work the shifter and love doing it. If there is such a club, I must've become one of them), 17" tires make one dodge potholes (I live in Cleveland), the climate-control knobs feel slightly cheap, and you have to get the 6-disc CD player in order to get the sunroof (those infamous dealer option packages), but the CAR PERFORMS!!! There has been much chatter about the lava-colored seats, but I have received nothing but compliments about them, from car-lusting men to women who could care less about a helical limited-slip differential or low-profile tires. It handles and brakes (and I don't even have the ABS), and the torque is phenominal. When you hit the gas, you feel the twist right away (I see why people love Corvettes, Mustangs, and Vipers: the torque! I can't imagine what those monster machines feel like)! . One problem with the fuel pump: I had to turn the key twice to get it to start oftentimes. But the dealer (Ganley Nissan)fixed it with no problem. If you love to drive, anxiously waiting to leave rush-hour traffice to find the next two-lane twisting road, eager to shift your own gears, and want to spend no more than $19000, the Spec-V is it. Period! It's been 14 months and 21000 miles, and the Kool-Aid smile is still on my face...
