Power, the rubber necking of Infinites and others

Weakness:

Paint not as good as other Nissan products I have owned.

By far the coolest/funnest car I have owned. I tested the civic ex and protege5, but they had no power and honda has gotten bland. The ser is a winner hands down for the money. I tell others I have a sentra, but the say oh, and when they sit in it, they can't believe it's a sentra. They say it feels much more expensive and reeeeallly fast!!! If you are looking to get a car that is unique and not every tom, dick and harry is driving get the ser or the spec v.

Strength:

Stereo is nice. Love the interior. Very nimble little car and has the speed. Gets great gas mileage for having such a big engine. There is alot of torque in the car. It has everything that you need in a car.

Weakness:

I don't think that you can consider this a weakness but you don't feel speed on the highway. I get surprised when I look down and I am going 90mph.

This car is beatiful. I bought it in October of 2002. It is that really nice molten silver color and it looks great. It is also fully loaded. The interior is very nicley laid out. The interior in the car has the feeling of high quality. The same quality you see in european cars. The engine has great power and the 6 speed is a great touch. I love the seats they have in the Spec V. They are really comfortable and very nice looking. The thing I like the most about the 2003 over the 2002 is the interior color. They went from that hideous orange to a really nice grey. I have put 6,000 miles on the car and have not had any problems with it. I drive a lot on the freeway and it rides very nice on the freeway for having the sports suspension. This is a grat car and a very safe one as well. My car has 8 airbags. I sure hope I don't have to use them all. The car is really fast. It is almost as fast as the Acura RSX's by less than half a second. Great car Great price.

Strength:

It is actually a nice looking car, interior and exterior. For a high performance vehicle it is fairly comfortable.

Weakness:

Besides all of my specific problems, the only thing that I dislike about it is the turning radius.

Since buying this car in May of 2002 I have had nothing but problems at this point. Problems started within 2 months of my purchase, when the car was at only 1,687 miles. The gas gauge was broken, it was reading that I had 1/2-3/4 of a full tank, but then wouldn't start, in other words it was leaving me stranded, because it actually had no gas at all. When I brought it to the dealership for repair, I was told it was on backorder, I was also told that I would get a call when the piece was in, but recieved no call for almost 1 month. I called the dealership and spoke to the service department and to my surprise the piece had been in for a few weeks already,I was driving around a broken car for 3 months and the dealership could not even call me?!?!? I brought it in and it was repaired within 2 days. The next thing or should I say THINGS to go wrong with it happened in December of 2002 - January of 2003. In early December I went out to my car, to go to work, and it wouldn't start, for a day and a half it wouldn't start. I decided to have it towed in, on a late Sunday afternoon, that way it would be there for the service department to see first thing Monday morning. When the towing company arrived, they got the car started, but all of this black crap came pouring out the tailpipe, it was smoking and leaking. Now, I don't know much about cars, but I do know that crap should not be spewing out the back end of it. I was told that I may have just put bad gas in it, and that if I had it towed in for not starting, that I would be charged for the tow due to tha fact that it started right away when the towing company got there. As a 21 year old, I can't afford to pay towing fees, so I went against my better judgement and did not have it towed in. For the next 2-3 weeks it was running perfect. I had been planning a trip to go to the mountains for Christmas to see my family, and some of my boyfriends family, so we packed up the car, snowboard equipment and all, and headed out for a 1,250 mile trip from Florida to Pennsylvania. While getting ready to leave my families home in New Jersey to go to the cabin in Pennsylvania, my car again wouldn't start. So much for it being bad gas, I was stuck for about 5 hours before the car would start, it again poured stuff out the back end of it, smoked, and started leaking. Soon after this engine problem occurred other things started going wrong with it. Since I live in Florida, I've never had to use the heat, but up north it was necessary to use it, the A/C unit broke, it was stuck on heat, which didn't bother us until our trip home, by the time we got to South Carolina it was like a sauna in the car. Something else that went wrong was that the front defroster started spitting out the insulation, strands and strands of grey foam. The speakers started rattling, the speakers that I paid an extra $1,000.00 for. So I took the car in as soon as I got home. I was told that the speakers were fine(since when do $1,000.00 speakers rattle?), that the stuff coming out of the defroster was okay and that it didnt do much anyway, that the piece for the engine was on backorder, and that the piece for the A/C was on backorder, seems to me that every piece made for this car is on backorder. So, now I had a car that wouldn't start, heat that was stuck on when it was 75-80 degrees outside, speakers that didn't work, and strings of grey foam all over my car. This was finally all fixed on February 18, 2003, along with other things that broke over the course of 1 and 1/2 months since my vacation, including the speaker was still rattling and I wanted it fixed or replaced, it was still not starting every once in a while, and now, the front grill, the paint was peeling off and the grille was rusting. (of course the speaker part and the grill were on backorder, so they have still not been fixed). I was however happy that my car would finally start, no question about it!!! That is until yesterday, February 24, 2003. I went out to move my car so that my father had room to pull into the garage and it again would not start, 6 days after getting it back, it wouldn't start. Also within the past 6 days, the passenger seat has broken, it gets stuck in position, the gear that sits it up and reclines it is making this horrible grinding noise. So, I now am without my car yet again, it has gotten to the point that if I don't laugh about it I will cry. Everthing about it is a nightmare.

Strength:

Plenty of power. If the Sentra SE-R doesnt have enough power for you, then you need to by a rocket motor for it. This is the USA there are speed limits get up and go is good but how much horse power do you need to go 70 down the interstates. Ok but well you know See the summary that says it all...... BUT!!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Its not bad desgin just poor manufacture I think. The Sentras a built in Mexico and just about all of the car comes from Mexican suppliers except engine and trannys which come from japan, atleast my car did. The ability for the dealers to get parts is horrid. Ive heard of wait times of 3 or 4 months even 6 months for parts. I had to wait about 4 months to get my nightmare listed above fixed. Consider the fact that ive had 2 cars and 3 problems one a major wait to get fixed well ill say that the Sentras weakness just I dont trust it nor Nissans any more. The car has lost all charm. Nissan basically just told me to go away when I called to see what they would do about all the problems ive had with it.

This is my 2nd 2002 NissanSentra SE-R Automatic. The first one I had was the Radium color beautiful car rode good handled good and was actually quiet. I got ran off the road by a White Chevy Cavalier (it was raining and had almost gotten run over many a time in it, must have been the color)and it was a total loss. That car had only one problem the front passenger window regulator (cable that makes window roll up and down) broke thank god in the up position. Well then I got another Nissan Sentra SE-R same everything except the color this one is Red. Well so far i have had the Driver side power door lock switch go bad, it got replaced within about 2 weeks. While driving at about 55 it sounds like there is a door or window cracked or something, losts of wind noise, This was not in the first car i had. The next problem has been a pisser to say the least. The climate control selector knob for the hot to cold setting broke. It stuck on HOT. At first I was told it was the cable, then it was the door that was stuck and woulnt let go. Well this is north Georgia, it gets cold down here somewhat in the winter. Thank god it got stuck in the hot position. Go figure. Well this would fog up the windows when it rained. Heat plus rainy weather equals Fogged up windows. This got to be a saftey issue and I told Nissan this I think they got the point when I threated to call the NTSB and NIHS to report a saftey fault. Well they finally said the foam sealing tape came off and the residue left acted like a glue and sealed up the door and the cable broke because the door wouldnt move causing the cable to twist. Broke around first of November, got fixed first part of Feb. 2003. You should see what they had to do to get the thing fixed. The whole inside of the car from the front seats forward to wind-sheild had to come out even the airbags. After it was put back together it had scratches every where some small some quite large. Well lets see do I even want them to touch the thing agian. The salesman I bought the first car said i needed to be more careful with the car. He was just pissed because I didnt buy the second car from him. His model didnt have the Rockforfostgate radio and wanted 400 dollars more than i paid for the first one. He said 200 dollar price increase and 200 dollars extra for the sales tax increase. Ill give him the tax thing but for a repeat customer he wouldnt drop 200 bucks, i figured he had done went and bumped his head or something. Buyer Beware. I HAVE A LEMON... Oh its red easier to see right. WRONG I have almost been killed in this RED EGG atleast 3 times so far...... Oh for the guy who has the dealership telling him to talk to his insurance company. Tell the dealer ship that," what do WE need to do to make the vehicle WHOLE agian that i need to be made WHOLE agian" especially if its on payments. and if they dont listen then tell them the little word,,, SUBJUGATION say it like its spelled. That will get there attention. Thats when you tell the insurance company or even the lender that the vehicle is in need of repair and the manufacturer wont honor the warranty nor fix it and you have your insurance company or lender pay for it minus the deductable of course, and then they seek legal action against the dealer to get back the money and your deductable. Some insurers will count it agianst you untill they get there money back. Go Figure.........

Great Value! Under 10,000 dollars for a Nissan! Kinda fast. Looks nice. large trunk. Nice suspension. Looks much better with a rear spoiler. Engine sounds nice and robust.

Weakness:

The manual shifter it vibrates like a wild vibrator when the engine is on. No power locks or windows depends if you care for them. the engine is loud, depends on if that bothers you. Rear doors could be bigger.

This is my dads car and it has 129hp and 126 lbs. ft of torque. This car is a nice , fast sedan exspecially for the price he paid for it. Acceleration is not bad, it has nice cornering, nice braking, it has nice tires: a set of Bridgestone Potenza's.It has a nice stereo system with 4 speakers. This car has a small battery with 88 minutes of reserve capacity. The engine is pretty loud, unexpected from a brand new car. The engine sounds like a robust, modified 4 cylinder. This car has a large trunk, good headroom it will fit a person 6 foot or a bit taller. the fabric could be softer but the front seat keep you upright and sturdy. This is the best car we have ever gotten for this price. I would recomend this car to someone else. Also, the car had the following options A/C, CD player, Air Filter Floor Mats. Also the car had like 100 something miles on it.

Model Reviewed: Nissan SE-R SpecV

Strength:

Robust design leaning toward high service reliability. Gas mileage relatively good if 22.5 MPG City, 29 MPG Highway meets your requirements. Highly excellent suspension design, great on winding roads. Continental performance tires keep air pressure consistently, are suprising well suited design for the Spec V.

Weakness:

Hate the limited stearing tilt. Not good for someone over 6' tall, and then maybe 5'11" and under is best fit.

6 speed manual transmission lured me into test driving this out even though at 49 I am closing the episode on buying any future manual transmissions. I will be ready for the auto trans days ahead. I have driven 13,500 miles thus far. Remember to opt for the 75,000 Extended warranty which at said dealer (which was in Pittsburgh) was only $375 x-tra. It is a good bargain and insurance. Even yet, the car seems to have a very robust design that looks like it will be among the most reliable cars on the road in long run. It is a four door sedan, but small make no mistake. I do not like the steering wheel position as it does not tilt down far enough for my individual liking, like the great American cars do (Monte Carlo, Impala, Camaro, Firebird, etc.). I am 6'0" tall. Do not think of getting this if you are taller. Is not a Subaru WRX speed demon, but the 0-60 MPH speed is faster than many on the road, including even the sleek, powerful 200HP 1999-2001 V-6 Honda Accord. The power is more than adequate if that comparison meets your recommendation. You especially notice the benefits of the car design and 175HP on windy stretches of road. The SE-R SpecV will, however, stick to the road just as well as a Subaru WRX and especially at the low speed but windy roads of coastal California. Just check the lateral acceleration specs of this SpecV and you will find it approaching the marks of the high end sport cars. Nissan put in very excellent suspension design. The SE-R Spec V comes with sliding moonroof, I have both CD and additional 6 CD changer whichcame standard. Agree with other comments about relative quality of audio Fosgate system. But is adequate enough to enjoy. Car requires 91-92 octane gas, per Nissan. I get 22-23 MPG in City, 29-30, and sometimes better MPG on the highway driving. I have diven this car from Pittsburgh to North Carolina to Colorado to California and the highway driving was not jittery or uncomfortable as some might think for such a heavily suspension designed car.

Built to last!

Interior cloth seats disturbingly "economical" dash needs some improving (96 model)

This is a great car. I bought it used in 00 when my 87 Maxima lost its tranny. In almost exactly three years I had to replace the alternator once (the ame week I bought it) tires and lightbulbs, and change the oil and tran. fluid. ITS A KEEPER! The car is certainly built to last! Its cheap, its cheap to fill up, but its so damned reliable I'm most certainly going to stay with Nissan for a long time! The only thing is, since June '00 the "airbag" light has been blinking...but i'm so used to it I don't really want to fix it. The only thing I wish is that the display panel was jazzed up a little (the '02 model has a cool dash) and the tires are small and very...economical. Other then that though - it's worth more then the price!
