Strength:

Looks great, very comfortable, affordable for an oldsmobile!

Weakness:

The brakes, and the fact that nobody even the G.M. mechanics can fix them properly!

So far not many problems, aside from the brakes which are just the worst. They make so much noise heads turn on the street. Had the brakes and the rotors fixed which were not covered by the warranty (20000km). They still make the same noise $300 dollars later. Had the rear defrost module replaced under warranty in a timely fashion. The heater went the second winter which was fixed aswell. Aside from those problems I love the car!

Strength:

Styling. That is it.

Weakness:

I hope I have enough room: Water leaks, Faulty Electrical Components, Bad seals, Road Noise!, Cheap electronics (CD player works when it wants to-Tweeter attached to passenger side door has fallen off), Cheap Interior (Leather has already cracked-Door Moulding on passenger side is falling off).Brakes are awful, Bad blind spots, Thin Paint, Bad cockpit layout (Cupholders), Lawn Mower Size Gas tank and Horrible Gas Mileage.

Bought this car 1/2001. Loved the styling. Had three days of fun with it and then it has been down hill ever since. I learned a huge lesson. Looks are not everything! Car was in the shop 3 days after purchase for an oil leak (1/23/01). On 3/26/2001 it was in the shop for a passenger side door WATER leak. On 7/18/01 The car was in the shop for a whistle type sound from the passenger airbag when going 55 mph or more. Turned out that they had to remove the windshield and reseal parts surrounding it. On 7/30/01 The turn signals decided not to work. Shop had to change some electrical component. On 1/23/02 Car leaking water again. Thompson Service department says they don't understand what could be wrong??? They replace weatherstrip. On 2/07/02 Water Leaks again. Rocket scientists at Thompson still do not know what the problem is. On 3/11/02 Guess what!! Water Leaks again. Thompson tries again!! 05/27/02 IAT sensor fails. Car has to be towed to dealership! Thompson Replaces parts. 05/29/02. A/C switch Fails. A/C fan will not turn on position one. You have to turn it to 2 for it to go on. That is it for right now (05/30/2002). I am sure there will be more! Avoid This car like the plague!! General Motors customer service has been horrible! Thompson Cadillac Olds Isuzu has been even worse! Overall this has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Here is a Quote from The Dealership when I complained about my problems with the vehicle: "GM Has Given up on Oldsmobile. We are a victim (Dealership) and you are a victim"(John Reeves 05/29/02).

Strength:

car looks nice, has plenty of power

Weakness:

front end no good, driver view limited to side

This car has been nothing but a heartache. milage: 34,000: here we go ... brakes changed 3 times due to warping, drive shaft changed due to warping, sway bar bushings worn/making noise& had to have replaced ... still making noise, out of round tires the driver seat fell apart, the stick shift came loose. the car drives lousy on the highway (the steering wheel vibrates and/or shakes), the tires make noise at low speed (only time you can hear it), dealer told me that was normal! the car is noisy on the highway, the brakes still scrape and I fear are warping again! I am calling olds to the carpet on this one... replace it or face CT consumer protection lemon law.

Strength:

all around handling, from taking a 35mph curve at 65mph to jamming on the brakes during rush hour. enough power to safely pass that tractor on a curvie back road. a sharp fast look with polished rims, and an affordable sticker price ($7,500-$15,000)

Weakness:

there''s only 170 horses under your foot and that small problem of not being able fulfill the 140 mph odometer.

as a total package, this is a great car! the handling, power, looks and price, all come together nicely. at 37,000 miles no major problems yet, besides replacing the ingition modual. tires, brakes, rotors, and alignment are still original. the 3.4 liter v6 has some nice power, lets say enough to give an SS some fun, but don''t plan on feedin the speed to your ride for to long, oldsmobile added a governor at 105mph

Strength:

Nice look and handles great on the road. Plenty of power.

Weakness:

engine, brakes,

A horrible car. Have had the brakes and rotors replaced twice. At 40,000 the cruise control went out and was told it was a computer module that had gone out. At 46,000 the intake manifold gasket had to be replaced. The air conditioner is beginning to act up and now at 53,000 the engine is gone. Minimum cost is $3,000 Had the oil changed religiously on this car every 3000 to 3500 miles even though the specs say every 6000. The clear coat paint is peeling as well. Surely this is just a lemon car and hopefully not all the Aleros are as bad as this one. The trade in value on this car stinks. No wonder Oldsmobile is going out of business. I am stuck with this piece of junk. I did not take out the extended warranty because I figured it would at least last until I could pay it off.

Strength:

About the most affordable mid-size sedan on the market. Fun to drive with plenty of power. Comes with just about everything you can possibly get. I find the seats to be completely comfortable no mater how long the drive. Only the traction control isnt really what it sounds like. It does nothing to transfer power from a slipping wheel to a gripping wheel, all it does is cut back on the gas.

Weakness:

My car came from the factory with one poorly fitting door. So far this is the only defect Ive noted.

Ive owned this car for close to a year now so I thought I would update my review. So far I have had absolutely nothing go wrong with the car. The car still drives like the day I baught it. I still love to drive my car and dont regret buying it one bit.

Strength:

Attractive, good acceleration and handling.

Weakness:

Redesigned window system. Most electrical windows will go out at some point. Noisy brakes.

The Alero is an attractive car and reliable within the warranty peroid. I have had no problems before hitting 55K and then the brakes started making their high pitched noise and then the window cabling system went out which was re-engineered. I was informed that one window would cost $500+. I told the mechanic wtf and put a wedge in it to hold the window up.

looks, handling, steering, great acceleration, very quiet inside, and out.(you just have to put the good gas in it!)

Weakness:

Gas mileage could be a bit better, but I can find ways to make that better.

I love this car!! I am willing and able to work on my own car..That is if anything should go wrong.I have inspected this car from bumper to bumper, and the only problems that i have found is that the radio crapped out on me,but i got a new one for it no prob! And the trim around the windshield was broken, but my dealer fixed that no problem..there are no leaks and the rotors are like they should be..If I do ever have a problem with the rotors,I am going to install drilled rotors on it to keep the brakes and the rotor cooler,to prevent warping..This car has 38,000 miles on it and still going strong.I love it a lot!

Looks nice, great stereo... that''s about it!

Weakness:

Bumpy ride when up to speed on highway. Alignment hasn''t been right since day 1. Gas mileage could be better.

This car looks good, but has been nothing but trouble since bought. It has been to the dealer a total of 5 times within one year for irregular service calls and 3 times for the same thing. The car makes a whistling/squealing sound except when brakes applied, cold/wet weather, but dealer says they cannot find anything wrong, even though they admit to the same complaints from others. Had to have a chip replaced in the electrical system because of a malfunction. Had to have a filter replaced due to fumes being released from the gas tank. Would not recommend to anyone after this beauty turned into a heartache!

Not a very quiet car.Could be better gas mileage.Must have poor quality parts on car, particulary wheel bearings.

The car looks and handles great.A little disappointed that mechanical work needed to be done at only 50,000 miles(front wheel bearings)
