Strength:

Looks nice, affordable, good acceleration.

Weakness:

None other than mentioned in Summary. I say don''t completely avoid because mine is probably just a bad apple. Have heard plenty of good reviews

Turning the at 20K miles was just the beginning. It took 3 passes on one of them the warping was so bad. I had them turned again at 29K. AC motor went out before the warranty expired, luckily. Had some early, 40K, ''routine'' maintenance to transaxle because fluid seepage from lower pan gasket. Replaced filter, gaskets, and flush. Noticed low coolant level around 38K. Topped off once a week for several weeks with about a pint per. Never noticed leak under the car. While changing the oil at 40K, noticed moisture/sludge lining the outer wall of valve cover and oil cap so the leak was internal. Preliminary diagnostics suggest blown head gaskets, weak compression in 2 of the front 3 cylinders that I checked. Either a weak gasket or gasket seal, or worse, cracked/warped/uneven head!

Strength:

Low price. Zippy 2.4 liter, handling is great. The gas milage is not too shabby. Everyone like the styling.

Weakness:

The cupholders are a joke. The Oldsmobile name is fading away.

I bought this as a one yr old program car. Thanks to the low resale value, the price was very good. I feel like I''m driving a $25,000 car. The Alero has been great for the 15,000 miles I''ve piled on it in the last 8 months. I have had no problems at all. I get from point A to point B in style.

Weakness:

No side airbags.

I have no complaints about my Alero, if I did then I wouldn''t have bought the car. I am pleased with the outcome of my car, I recommend it to everyone, Of couse its no Mercedes, but the Alero is an exellent handling car, with drive friendly controls.

Strength:

Powerful and stylish.

Weakness:

Starting problems, severe blind spots.

Nothing but problems with the car "trying" to start when it is warm and the dealer says there is nothing wrong with it. They''ve had it 4 times and I''m about to drive it in again. Maybe I''ll get another Geo rental! It only has 9000 miles on and I''m getting disgusted.

Model Reviewed: GLS 2 door coupe

Strength:

Torquey V6, nice 16" wheels w/sport suspension, tons of features. Well laid out controls that are driver-friendly. Nice looking car. The trunk is large and even with the coupe the back seats are comfortable for adults. The leather is not exactly hand cut connolly quality hide but it looks nice and smells like leather. The overall interior is GMs best yet in my opinion. Gone is the all-in-one GM turn signal/cc/winshield wiper headlight stalk. The turn signal headlight stalk only controls headlights, the wipers have a dedicated stalk on the opposite side of the wheel and the cruise controls are mounted camry-style on the inside of the steering wheel. Unlike the Camry''s, these light up at night which is nice. Nice domestic brand ride.

Weakness:

Suspect interior trim quality. No side airbags and the poor crash test results. The fact GM is phasing Olds brand out.

The Alero represents GMs best attempt yet to emulate the superb ergonomics and build quality of the Japanese imports. Compared to its old Achieva and Corsica it is years ahead both mechanically and ergonomically. Unfortunately, the Alero and Grand Am both did very poorly on the IIHS crash tests. I''m giving the car 5 stars since I got a great deal and I''ve owned it for 1 year this Jan. and had no major problems. The dealership is great and I just did the 15,000 mile service.

Strength:

RIDES SMOOTH, LEF ROOM GOOD IN REAR SEATS,LARGE TRUNK, NICE LOOKING

Weakness:

VERY BAD BLIND SPOTS, THE REAR VIEW MIRROR ON FRONT WINDSHIELD IS TO LOW THIS MAKES IT HARD TO SEE OUT WINDOW. BRAKES MAKE LOUD NOISE WHEN COMING TO A STOP. DRIVER SEAT IS VERY HARD TO ADJUST (POWER SEATS)I''M SHORT AND I MY HEAD TOUCHES THE TO ROOF. GAS MILEAGES IS TERRIBLE.

ALL IN ALL I THINK THIS CAR WAS A WASTE OF MONEY. I WOULDN''T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE TO.

This thing is my baby. I just glide through the city in this monster of a car. It packs power, great design and comfort. My Alero crushed Winter with style from its enhanced traction system.

Strength:

A blast to drive. Room for skis inside. GM card $2300 earnings rebate. Other cash incentives.

Weakness:

Just a bit shy of headroom for one 5-10. The coupe''s back seat make you feel like you are riding on a commuter airline -- hard and windows don''t open. GM ''warranty''. Local dealership

By the time you read this, you can believe that this is a fine handling car with no shortage of power. It is certainly not a product you would expect to find an Olds logo on. I purchased it new, thinking that a warranty has some value. It boils down to this -- we have a new oxymoron -- "GM warranty" The 16" Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires began to make sidewall noise at 25000 mi. It took the shop 4 trips and 4 months to come to this conclusion -- only to send me to Goodyear. I bought some Coopers. Noisy valve lifters at 35900 miles. Dealer''s solution was to add Marvel Mystery Oil. Why do I feel like I''m getting shafted?

Milage isn''t too good. Of course, me flooring it all the time can''t help much.

I think this car is perfect. It''s smooth running, reliable, and best of all I can outrun my sister''s 99 Mercury Cougar.

Strength:

V6 Engine has good power to it. Heavy car on the road

Weakness:

Cup holder placements are not in good spots. Bad wind noice, and bad water noice when it''s raining outside. The gas milealage could be better.

The car has just over 6,000 miles on it. It does quarky little things that don''t settle well with me. When it is warm out, the car seems to have a problem starting. The brakes work but they make a thug when stopping in he rain or from higher speeds (like when getting off of the freeway.) When the heater is turned on it seems to run a lot of power almost like I was turning on the AC. The Alero makes for a comfortale ride. It seems to be a heavy car and handles the road very well. It has a styilish body for a family sedan.
