Strength:
The Monsoon deck sounds great when it doesn''t emit deafeningly loud bursts of distortion.
Weakness:
I''ve had many of the same problems noted in other reviews here. Difficulty starting when warm; warped rotors (although not quite as bad as some other people have indicated - at least not yet anyway); less than smooth transmission shifting; inconsistent idle. In addition, the alternator on this car doesn''t seem to be up to task. If my rear defogger is on during idle, my headlights dim. My steering wheel vibrates anytime after 120 kph (about 75mph) making it extremely unpleasant to drive for lengthy distances. In addition to this, the car pulls to the right. So while the wheel is shuddering at speed, I also have to keep it pulled to the left to keep from flying into the ditch. And the dealer service with respect to this problem is almost comical. I took it into the dealer I purchased it from twice. Both times they made alignment adjustments, which of course made no difference whatsoever. When I took it into the third time, the service advisor looked at me blankly and said "You know, GM builds their cars with memory steering these days. That''s probably what it is." The last time I checked, memory steering is a PROBLEM caused by defective steering components. I then took it into an Overall I have to say I''m pretty disappointed with my Alero. You''d think a car put together from so many long-existing GM parts would be more reliable. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Looks great, exceptional value
Weakness:
Bought this car before the new altima came out. After reading the specs on the altima it looks like it would be more fun to drive. I have owned this car for a few months and just love it. The handling is great, acceleration is very impressive for a 4 cylinder (no more always getting in behind other drivers like I had to in my Toy truck)and it is very comfortable. The seats perfectly fit my back, passengers get in the back seat without ever complaining(definite plus). If this car holds up I know I will stay completely satisfied, and with the 5 year warranty I shouldnt have anything to worry about. Similar Products Used: 1991 Toyota camry v-6 I have driven many miles in this car. The 4 cyl alero out handles this car but is not as fast of course, but its close. The seating in the alero is much more comfortable with i |

Alero GL
Strength:
Looks, comfort, engine performance, interior design, safety features.
Weakness:
Won''t be made anymore. I loved my Alero! Unforunately, I lost it in an accident. I took good care of it, and I didn''t really have any problems. It was fun to drive, and I felt very safe in it. The traction system worked well, as well as the ABS brakes. Driving in the snow was no problem. I definitely recommend this car, even though Olds is going out of business. It is a GM car, so will always be serviceable. Similar Products Used: I''ve recently replace the Alero with a 98 Subaru Legacy. |

Strength:
Great looks. Great Engine (V6). Sooo comfortable. Turns heads. Solid design.
Weakness:
Lack of manual tranny in V6. Governor at 105mph. (116mph with sport suspension) Very few aftermarket parts. I''ve had a couple of little glitches, but the dealer took care of them with no problem; even one that shouldn''t have been covered under warranty. Over all I am completely satisfied with this car and would buy another one in a second! Similar Products Used: None |

BRAKES! BRAKES! BRAKES!, NO CD Player, Gas Mileage, Resale Value near ZERO, poor GM service, Got rust within 8 months! Did I say horrible brakes? After one year (yesterday) and 37,000km(23,000miles), I am pretty disappointed with my purchase. The car looks good and has a nice V6 engine, but after that, well... The brakes are HORRIBLE. They changed my front rotors in May and I had to replace my front pads last week....and rotate ALL 4 DISCS (all warped!) Of course, the 1st replacement was on warranty, but NOT last week. i was told by a brake expert that if you need to replace your rotors, to buy USED 1992 Pontiac Transport Rotors! They are WAY BETTER and will resist more to heat (and avoid warping). I still can''t believe that a car that price didn''t have a CD player (it''s now standard as of 2001) I got a rust blister repaired on my back door and the "black applique" on the other back door (which was badly rusted!) I want to get rid of it, but then again, I''ll lose AT LEAST $10,000CAD (6,500US) due to the fact that Olds is no more (Was NOT the case when I bought it) AVOID AT ALL COST! Go get an import instead! P.S.: Car was $25000 CAD (approx. $16,500US Similar Products Used: Previous car: 1995 Hyundai Accent Sport (BOY DO I MISS IT!) If I had a better resale value, I would go for a Hyundai Elantra GT, a Mazda Protege5 or a 2002 Volkwagen Jetta (better warranty in 2002! |

Olds Alero GL3
Strength:
Price, Looks, perfomance, dependability
Weakness:
Oldsmobile is phasing the Alero out. :( Too bad, this is a GREAT car. I LOVE my car!! I used to have TERRIBLE luck with cars. My last vehicle was a ''97 Jeep Wrangler (which I bought brand new). I spent over $3000 fixing the exhaust, etc after the warrantee expired. I am sooo glad I got rid of that peice of crap and purchased my red 2000 Olds Alero. I got the supreme package.. V6, leather steering wheel/knob, sunroof, spoiler, upgraded rims, cd, etc. The Alero is really fast, dependable, stylish, and hugs the corners on turn. When I first test drove the Alero I fell in love. I previously test drove the Mercury Cougar but felt like I was driving a go-cart at the beach. (What a joke) If you are THINKING about purchasing an Alero, just take it for a test drive and you''ll see what I''m talking about. Similar Products Used: 1997 Jeep Wrangler (a donkey is more reliable) 1991 Toyota Celica GT (was ok) 1984 Plymouth Laser (really unreliable) |

Strength:
Good performance from the engine and really quiet to ride in. A pleasure to take on a long trip. Great 200 watt 8 speaker Monsoon stereo system. Sunroof is nice to have too.
Weakness:
The only problem I''ve had was that the fuel gauge sensor went on me during a trip. No problem, covered under warranty. Also watch out for the low splash guards under the front of the car. Cracked one of mine last winter. Had to replace it myself ($50). And the fuel tank could have been a wee bit bigger too. Excellent vehicle! Purchased a fully loaded GL Coupe. I didn''t want the leather seats that come with the GLS. Also got the Sports Handling Package which includes the 16 inch tires and sports suspension. Similar Products Used: Not really, but upgraded from a Cavalier RS. That had a 3.1L engine. My Alero''s 3.4L engine sure makes a big difference. |

Strength:
Looks great. Has loads of power. My 3.4l V6 really kicks butt!
Weakness:
These Aleros must have small gas tanks or they are serious gas hogs! I fill mine twice a week. Plus the brakes really need some work. My friend has a 2000 Grand Am GT and is having the same brake problem. Every time I have mine at the dalership I hear within days after that she too just had hers there! I can sympathize with Jen from Orlando. I too bought my Alero but it was a demo. it already had 7k miles and had to take it back to the dealership after only having it for a month and have had it back to the dealership every 6-8 weeks ever since. It''s like clockwork. The rotors and calipers have been replaced twice in the last 16 months I''ve had it. Within the last month or so, when I too put my driver''s side window down, it looks like the window was rubbed all the way down to the to the base. The fog lamps have condensation on the inside of the lens which I''m not worrying about right now till it goes. Sometimes when I try to start the car it too stalls once or twice in a row. I did have a leak that was fixed on the passenger side door. I believe there is something wrong with the door seals because now the drivers side seal is coming up from the lower frame of the door. I just had it back to the dealer this morning for the check fluids light that kept coming on every time I climb a hill-it needed more coolant. Apparently when any commercial oil change or dealership changes the oil they do not check fluid levels! Olds service is declining. Do you think because they are apparently doing away with Oldsmobile that they do not need customer service for us Olds owners anymore? Similar Products Used: 1992 Olds Achieva |
