Strength:
Great power at all speeds, smooth and satisfying tranny, always capable of giving a little more, great sound system, very comfortable interior
Weakness:
Low on head room, cup holder/ashtray placement is poorly designed. I love this car. I really LOVE this car. Decent mileage and a great engine/tranny make this a very nice deal, and the classy package helps a lot. Wonderful value. Similar Products Used: Turns a lot more heads than it's bumpier cousin, serious zip and power for a mere 4 cylinder. |

Olds Alero GLS coupe
Strength:
Engine! Engine! Engine! Styling (except for the goofy big tail lights). Big trunk. Good stereo. Tight handling. Nice looking interior (the natural leather one, anyway). Excellent keyless entry (works from 75 feet!).
Weakness:
Engine noise is sometimes unrefined. Torque steer, wierd, very sensitive steering just off center, or if you run over lane stripes. Unrelenting trips to incompetent dealer for plethora of nagging problems. Resale value sucks. Great car to drive, not so much fun to own if you have a problematic one. Of course, my Olds dealer closed his doors 3 months after I bought (no wonder I got such a deal...), and the Cadillac dealer who inherited the franchise has trained monkeys (hey, at least I THINK they're trained) for service technicians. As usual, GM service after the sale sucks. Now that GM has given Oldsmobile the kiss of death, my low resale value has plummeter even lower. If you could mate the powerful engine and charisma to a Honda Accord, THAT would be the car to buy. Again, this car is fun to drive, nice to look at, and has competitive pricing now with the "Please buy from Olds before we go away entirely" incentives, but the headaches aren't worth it for me. Strength:
gutsy v6,good standard features, traction control, excellent styling, good stereo with cd, controls very well placed (ie stereo, a/c, etc), good room for family (wife and 2 kids), a/c works good, fuel economy good
Weakness:
some rattles (fixed by dealership), rear left blindspot and thick front pillars, needs to have 6 speakers, needs fore/aft adjustment on front seats i would definately recommend this car. i was hesitant to trade my 5spd sho o for an automatic, but this thing is nearly as quick, and you don't have to thrash it. i've got excellent fuel economy - 25mpg in town (lots of stop and go) and 36mpg on the highway - and i have a lead foot. Similar Products Used: 1995 taurus sho 5spd - very quick, but typical ford quality problems. |

Alero GLS
Strength:
Leather seats, sunroof
Weakness:
see below I bought my Alero in September 1999 and I am on my second major repair (at least what I consider to be major). After six months of ownership, I had to replace the rotors. Just over my one year mark, I replaced the alternator. Of course these repairs were covered under my warranty, but what can I expect when I exceed the 36000/3year mark? This is only the third new car I have owned in my lifetime (I keep my cars an average of 7 years)and I have NEVER had to replace either one of these items before. In addition to these two repairs I've had done, there are little annoyances I have not bothered to get fixed: sometimes the keyless entry does not function, the CD player skips, the driver's side window makes a loud "clunk" when it I roll it up, and the lumbar support in my seat broke. The car still looks great, but I have serious doubts about the quality of the vehicle as a whole. Similar Products Used: Buick Regal. The Alero can't touch the Regal! |

Alero
Strength:
It's got a powerful V6 engine. Put a new air filter and exhaust which got me a fair deal of horsepower. Beautiful green metallic color. Coupe, w/ very dark tint (25%) blue xenon headlights. Love the sound system except that my 2 front speakers blew up!
Weakness:
Don't like factory spoiler, or rims, rims are too small, and the car wastes too much gas. Other than that, no problem. Great car, kicks accords ass! Great for racing, pickin up chix, and turnin a few heads. BUY IT!!!!! Similar Products Used: Nissan Altima, Intigue, Century, Mercedes S430, Mercedes E320. It's better than all of these cars. WE FINALLY GOT IT TOWED THE AN OLDSMOBILE PLACE HERE IN DALLAS AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT A DAY LATER. TELL ME I'M NOT PISSED!!!!! I WILL PROBABLY TRY TO SELL IT OR TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER SOON...THIS IS B.S.!!!!!!!! WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS CAR I LOVED IT. BOUGHT IT AND NOW PAYING FOR IT ON JUST THE 2ND DAY! Strength:
Very strong V-6, quiet ride (even with the performance tires and suspension), great dash cluster, great looking (with spoiler)
Weakness:
Bass is too boomy even on premium sound system (just experiment with the bass control, it is overcomable), passenger door panel has had rattle in it since I bought it (getting fixed by Olds dealer next week) Just bought my Alero this past week. I've wanted one for the past 2 years and now have a bright red GLS coupe. I LOVE IT! It definitely turns some heads, especially when you punch it from a stoplight. Very strong midband acceleration, great looking car. Would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone that is still a bachelor! Would recommend getting the V-6 instead of the 4 due to fuel economy and acceleration. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Nice ride, good engine, comfortable, looks sharp
Weakness:
FUEL ECONOMY This is a follow up to my previous review. My car now has 6000 miles on it. Everything is great except I have a MAJOR complain about the fuel economy. The sticker, catalog, and reviews say the V6 engine should get around 32 miles per gallon highway. We all know that they always exagerate a little, but you expect something close. I drive my car to school 3 times a week, 50 miles each way. And it's all highway. I get about 230 miles out of a gas tank!! My car gets about 22 miles per gallon! And I don't drive like a maniac. I set the cruise control at around 75 mph. No stop and go traffic or anything. My father's thunderbird with a 4.6 liter V8 get 24 mpg. Anyway, it's pretty diappointing. Except for that the car is great. Similar Products Used: Pontiac Grand Am |

Olds Alero 4dr
Strength:
Great power!! I love the V6 power(I did own a 4cyl. Nissan, enough said). Wrap around dash with all the controls close by. Handles great!
Weakness:
Brakes and a few dash rattles. Dealership replaced rotors and pads at 12,000 miles free of charge, under the warranty. Rattles are gone now at 25,000 miles. Great sporty car. Lots of features for the money. I have the 4 dr. GLS. Very comfortable car to drive. Bought from a great dealership that stands behind the autos they sell. Similar Products Used: Nissan Altima |
