Awesome looking car!! Runs really smooth!

Weakness:

waterpump, engine, windows, doors, locks, belts, heater, seats, sunroof, computer errors Everything breaks!!!!!!

My car looks so nice but that doesn't do me any good when it is in the shop all of the time. I bought it with 29,000.00 miles on it two years ago. It has been in the shop approximately once a month ever since. The windows have broke as well as the seats and the sunroof! I have had to have tons of other problems fixed like the engine, heater, belts, waterpump, computers, door locks, fuse blocks, oil leaks, etc.. I don't think when you move your seat up to sweep underneath you should find bolts and coils laying on the carpet!!! I was really disappointed to have a lemon for my first new car!Ä

Looks nice

Weakness:

oil leaks rotors and breaks struts and coil springs break

This car sucks! I bought it two years old with 36,000 miles. It had already had one intake manifold leak which was fixed by the previous owner. At 40,000 miles, I had another oil leak, which cost $900.00 to fix. Since then, I've replaced the battery, brakes and rotors, all tires, and now found out I have two broken coil springs, which will cost about $1000.00 to fix. I will never buy a GM product again!

Good looking automobile...reminds me of my ex-spouse. Turns out to be high-maintenance with lots of flaws.

Weakness:

Extremely poor quality in interior paneling, front brakes & bearings, and the unwillingness of GM dealership mechanics to take the proper course of action in a warranty repair. Dealership replaced the first front-end bearing with an "after market" bearing and then swore up and down that bearings wear not covered under the extended warranty...I had to call GM to get them to OK the repair. The repair manager and GM designers are aware of the current problems and seem not to give a lick about return business.

I am begging anyone out there that is contemplating buying this automobile...DONT!!! The automobile (I use this term loosely) is the biggest piece of trash I have ever owned. I have replaced the front brake rotors at 40,000 miles, the left front-end bearing twice (45,000 and 73,000 miles) and the right front-end bearing (73,000). A co-owner (review #6) had remarked that a mechanic told him the front-end noise was the tires...I got the same story, but a "qualified" mechanic told me that was a load of crap and it was the first sign of a bearing wearing- out. Thanks GM I really appreciated the extra 500 bucks I had to shell out after the warranty ran out. The tires are fine and were finely replaced after 75,000 miles...I'm happy with Goodyear and replaced them with the same model and stock #.

Comfort, Excellent Monsoon Stereo, Powerful V6 Engine, Styling, Ride, Suspension, Steering, ABS & Traction Control.

Weakness:

Gas Guzzler in city driving (Especially Winter), Brakes, High Depreciation. My particular vehicle has been to 2 different dealerships a total of 7 times for an intermittent warm engine starting problem, which has yet to be rectified (Very Frustrating!).

I purchased this vehicle 1 year old. Great highway car with lots of Power (3.4), but watch your driving habits in the city or you will be visiting the Gas Pumps more frequently than you'd like to. Fun to drive with excellent styling and comfort. Super sound from the optional 8 speaker Monsoon Sound System. Very tight and stable cornering, although the stock tires need to go. Excellent Snow manners when Michelin Alpin's are mated to the standard Traction Control. I have been visiting this site for over a year now, and would agree 100% with those that have written this vehicle is not a racing machine, but meant to be driven normally. I have worked for BMW among other import car manufacturers, and I feel this vehicle is relatively comparable to a 3 Series (features and power), but if you plan to drive hard, pay the extra and buy the Beemer. The Alero has ample power for some redlight racing, but it will cost you down the road. I have always sworn by GM and hate to say this but, although it has the styling and get-go of a higher priced Import, always remember, it IS still a Domestic. Overall, me and my wife had test driven many different vehicles (see Similar Products Used below), and nothing felt or looked as good as the Alero FOR THE PRICE. There have been many little problems with my vehicle, but to be expected when purchasing an ex-daily rental. Research your dealership first, as I find most GM service to be far less than adequate. Although I have worked for many different dealerships in the past, I never believed in extended warranties until I owned this vehicle for a year. I finally did purchase one, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is hard on their car or who is considering purchasing used. If it were not for an intermittent Starting Issue we have had since we purchased the vehicle that is still not fixed, we would give this vehicle a 10!

A lot of power (6 cylinders), great road manners, nice look and a lot of features at a reasonable price, nice to drive during winter time.

Weakness:

Poor workmanship, lack of attention to details, cramped space, small trunk, big gap between the front fender and lights, average reliability (cost a fortune to replace the brake rotor in the back), fast depreciation.

This is your typical domestic product with a lot of features in terms of convenience but unfriendly from a user perspective i.e. low seats, difficult to enter and exit, cramped back seats, small trunk.

Handles great, looks great, and even has a fairly roomy back seat for a two door. I do get great use out of the fold down rear seats for when I have large items in the trunk.

Weakness:

I am relatively tall, and the sun roof option dropped the ceiling an inch or two lower than I would like.

My car has 37000 miles on it in 2.5 years and has never given me a days problem. The 6 cyl engine is peppy and you have got to love those eagle Gts for zippy handling. I have had many compliments from people I give rides to and have had a number comment on how nice my "European coupe" was...Boy were they surpised to find out that they were riding in an Olds! I must admit that every day when I cruise to work, I appreciate the fun of this car more and more. This is my second Olds, and I will miss them when they go away. I have been very lucky to have purchased this car at such a great price.

Just about everything else. This is not a car to own if you cherish your time and sanity.

I've owned the vehicle for 4 years and it's perhaps the worst automobile I've ever owned. I put 34,100 miles on the car and couldn't take it any more so I finally traded it in... 6 years before I typically trade in a vehicle! The car started out great... solid and fun to drive. After 2 years, however, the car started to decay. I've had the following problems: Vibrating mirror Brake rotors replaced 3 times in 34k miles! Rear doors don't open that easily Hazard light went through the dashboard Blower resistor for fan broke Leaking passenger compartment The interior now rattles like crazy Windshield is being etched from the wipers Wheels/brakes are creaking now (known problem with message boards) I would recommend that you stay away from this vehicle unless you have a lot of patience.

Strength:

It looks good--but the interior doesn't hold up. Lots of problems with the wiring.

Weakness:

The interior is made of poor factory workmanship and materials. Falling apart inside in less than two years. An extended warantee will help with some problems but not with the cheap interior that comes apart in a couple of years.

My 2002 GM Oldsmobile Alero is less than two years old. It turned over 36,000 miles while I was on vacation. By the time I got home, the dash pad and three of the door pads had come unglued and buckled. I took it to the dealer at 37,000 miles and the dealer refused to fix it because it had turned over 36,000 miles during my vacation. GM has refused to fix it for the same reason although the dash pad and door pads coming unglued and buckled had absolutely nothing to do with miles driven. Because of the poor factory workmanship and materials used when GM built my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, it has depreciated many thousands of dollars. It has caused me toll owe thousands of dollars more on this Alero that is falling apart inside than I could ever get out of it. Purchasing and extended warantty will not help with an Alero that the interior is falling apart if it has passed 36,000 miles. The extended warantee does not cover the defective dash and door pads. I am just stuck paying for a piece of junk that is falling apart from the inside out.

has good get up and go and is fairly good on gas

Weakness:

too many problems that I am now becoming aware of

I have replaced my front brakes at 26000km and my right front wheel bearing at 62480km. I was told that my bearing wasnt gone but that the noise I was hearing was from my tires. Seems that GM put Goodyear Eagles on my car and they are not compatible with the rims. Now comes the biggest problem if I had found out about this prior to going 2480km over my warranty they would replace the tires with new modified tires from Goodyear free of charge but alas even with the extended warranty I purchased I will have to replace all 4 tires myself at a cost of 210.00 each, I then phoned Goodyear and they are have been told of this problem and modified the tires to actually fit the rims GM designed. Goodyear has offered to replace the tires at a prorated cost to me of the actual treadwear I have used so it seems I will still be paying for 2 instead of 4 new tires. If you hear a scraping or scunching sound it is not your wheel bearings but your tires and if still under warranty get them replaced. GM has known about this since june of 2002.
