Strength:

Nice look and with a turbo would go pretty fast, mine doesnt have a turbo but it goes fast with a glasspack and a bit pipe on it and it sounds like it has some horse power rather than a weed eater on crack! Corners well..

Weakness:

Small interior and small trunk no rooms for a big stereo system. Big dam tires. Should have stock rims not some gay ass hubs. Wish mine had a turbo.

Overall this car looks nice and goes fairly fast, but with a turbo would be much faster. Small back seats really suck , but I,m not the one riding in the back. I also have 16" wheels and nobody in town carries 16 inch hubs so I,m gonna have to go buy some rims.

Strength:

absolutelty timeless and impeccable styling,A.W.D. handling, turbo power, jet fighter cockpit, sleeper look, refined disposition at speed and in corners, crazy aftermarket support considering its age(check out Buschurracing.com)...want to laugh at the next rice boy with a shopping car wing on his primered ride? Get a G.S.X!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Crappy tranny, crappy clutch, crappy repair prices.Note.......if you must replace parts on your Laser of other D.S.M. car, the aftermarket may be a better palce to look. Most of the time there is a part available for less money that increases performance and durability. I paid $600.00 for a BETTER,FASTER turbo. If yours goes out,why spend more money on a smaller turbo?

My experiance with this vehicle began after an extensive hunt for a performance car that I could actually afford. After reading (and driving!)almost everything I could get my hands on, this particular example of a D.S.M Turbo A.W.D. found its way into my life. My experiance with this car has been hot and cold. I bought the car with 55,000 on it from a dealer in San Diego, and shortly afterward I was replacing the clutch and the transfer case(center diff). To date, I have had FOUR transfer cases fitted in my car. Why, you ask? There was a recall on the transfer cases on some A.W.D. models(have YOU experianced leaking?). Mine was leaking a tiny bit on certain inclines, so I took it in promptly. The Plymouth Dealer replaced this $1,100 part for free, and I was on my way. Then, months later, while driving down I-15, my wheels locked up at 60mph. Luckily, I was in the slow lane and skidded off safely in a cloud of rubber smoke. To my dismay, the dealer I had gone to had sice evaporated into thin air, so I went to another Plymouth dealer. After days of pointless conjecture with the service manager, he agreed to replace it under the recall(this was due entirely to the fact that I called Dodge in detroit and had them regulate). Again the case leakes, and I took it back. At this point the dealer discovered that the problem was only a little rubber seal on the case, and not the case at all. The dealer skipped over this seal to save a little money(it wasn't a required part of the recall). So, they replaced this little part, gave me a whole new case again, and I have had no more troubles.THIS WAS NOT THE CARS FAULT.The dealer could have saved us both alot of time by being more observant.................Also,watch out for water...the air intake is located very low, water will ruin a perfect engine..watch for puddles. I don't want to discourage anyone. This is probably the most car available for the price, but should only be owned by an individual with patience and a mechanics hand(or money to spare).I have added Kyb GR-2 shocks, intrax springs,Enkei Fubuki 17's,white gauges,Auto meter full pillar dual pod and air/fuel, V.D.O. turbo gauge,H.K.S Turbo timer(almost essential for turbo duration),limo all around, and a small 16g imported from an EVOlution(for those who know).THe handling gains have been phenomenal....I once blew a tire at 126mph and tracked staight,NO B.S!!!!! corners are ridiculously easy with this all wheel drive system.Other imports like tricked out civics, celicas, and others cannot hold a candle to the real world handing prowess of A.W.D.I have to admit that I am a tad bit jealous of people having the opportunity to buy these cars for under $5,000. My Fiance has aa Acura Integra G.S.R with intake,exaust,springs,17's, and of course,V-TECH, and I spank her daily(car-wise you perverts). I have taken M3's through corners and 5.0's at lights. These cars are values for the right people.BUT....patience is a virtue.......P.S.If you add an intake and exaust, you have a supercar in domestic guise!

I drive a tricked out G.S.R. on a regular basis, and though the fit, finish, and refinement seems to be higher on the Acura product,my car is still faster and handles better. And for the money saved, I can buy refinement!

the transmission blows mine went out 8 months after i bought the car and i is the mitubusi trans so it took for ever to find some one who would do it.

it is over all good if you treat the car good and don't beat on it that is what i did that is why its costing me $900 toget it fixed. there is no room in the back it is a one person car!!!

Strength:

- Power... very strong motor, pulls really hard once boost is up
- AWD system... pulls an IMMEDIATE 2-3 car length on other cars with a hard launch
- Subtle, "sleeper" look... when you beat people at a stop light they will drive by like "wtf was that that dusted me?"
- fairly refined... nice sporty ride... LOTS of grip

Weakness:

- Tranny is CRAP compared to hondas, toyotas... GRINDS so much!!!
- One of the rods-pisons went out while i was doing 75mph on the highway... just cruising... no boost... plenty of oil in the engine... what a piece of crap... left me stranded... I've lost all faith in the DSM's and the 4G63 motor...

Excellent car while it lasted. Man, my car had only 86,000 miles on the odometer... then the engine went out. I can understand if i was low on oil or if the timing belt snapped, but all was fine and the engine just went out on me. Man, maybe this is not typical but i'm not amused.

Strength:

I feel that this car has potential. It has excellent acceleration and stopping power. Even in stock form right now I am able to whip people with it.

Weakness:

The front bumper styling of the Laser is poor. I feel that they put the fog lights in the wrong place. They shouldn't have put it in front of the intercooler. I feel that the opening of the exit side of the compressor housing of the turbo poorly machined. When it was bent to make that curve it pinched the opening a little smaller.

I would only reccomend it to people who know how not to abuse the car.

It could run with some mustang, corvette, or camaros, however it all depends on how you race it.

Strength:

Great appearance, mine is white with a half glossy black roof that makes it look like it is all glass. When I bought it last year, my neighbors thought it was a new model! It has 71,000 miles and looks and runs like new. The automatic is smooth and the acceleration is more than adequate. I have four other cars, but I had to buy this one when I saw it. The four-wheel disc brakes, high tech engine and power accessories are all strong points.

Weakness:

No real weak points to speak of. It is not a perfect car compared to the new cars, but after all, it is eleven tears old!

The only thing that I have changed on the car is the new 5-spoke polished aluminum aftermarket wheels. The old lacey spoke wheels were showing their age.
I also replaced the struts on the hatchback as they would not hold up the hatch which I bought them from an auto supply store for half the cost that the dealer wanted.
The only reason I would even think of selling the car is if I could find a later model like a 1993 or 1994 with low miles. I have owned a lot of Mustangs and Ford Probes in the past since I worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years, but I rate the Laser and its sister cars sold by Eagle and Miysibushi Eclipse as better cars in many respects, especially the quality and better looking interiors and exterior detailing.
I also own a 1990 Chrysler LeBaron GT convertible in mint condition with 60,000 miles and a 1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati convertible hardtop with 30,000 miles. I have really taken a liking to Mopars!

I have a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT in mint condition that is faster, but the Laser is a more comfortable car to drive, and more civilized in regular traffic.

It looks like I should have paid at least $5,000 for it. Very sporty car. It has good MPG and I like the little POWER button!

Weakness:

The sound of the engine when it is in idle and the sound of the brakes in reverse. I don't like the insurance either, but maybe that's because I'm a 17 year old guy!!

I love this car! I bought it from a college guy who was moving to CA for what I though was an okay deal. I paid $2,400 for what I think is an awesome car. It has 110,000 miles on it right now, but I'm hoping that if I keep the oil changes up and everything, it will last for a long time. This is my first car, and I wanted something that looked good. Not some huge "grandma" car. I don't know of any problems with it yet, but I haven't had it that long to really know. I do know that it makes a REALLY bad noise when you brake in reverse. Other than that, it's great!!!!

Strength:

Amazing acceleration. Great handling. I'm not sure what's with all of these internet specs I see, but when my friend (the previous owner) raced it at Bandimere Speedway, it was clocked 0-60 at 5.8 seconds, beating the 1993 Mazda RX-7, 1994 Honda Prelude, and 1994 Camaro Z28. And with the exception of the K&N Air Filter installed, all cars raced that day were pure stock. There have been NO engine modifications on the car.
Other than the speed, the steering is perfect, and the slick look is a real eye grabber especially to the girls. Stereo system cranks some real bass.
I love smoking people off the line and of all the years I've had this car, the only race I've ever lost is to my other friend's bad ass 1975 Hemi Cuda.
Also, for 5 years I've never, yes never, had any engine or mechanical problems whatsoever which is extremely rare now a days.
Gas mileage is excellent.

Weakness:

Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear screeches. Dash board is cracking. Paint is already peeling (although that may be the new paint job's fault). As already stated, the backseats are made for children or dwarfs.

If you're single and looking for a *real* sports car, don't go for the disappointing and embarrassing RX-7 series or Camaro series (With the exception of the SS), go with the Plymouth Laser. They're cheaper to buy and much faster.
If you're married with kids (or unmarried with kids, who knows?), I'll be honest... Don't go for this... This is only for a racer who is willing to spend time and dedication.

Has great pick up (we all know about the POWER button :).
Gas Mileage is great.
You can fold the "back seats" down and carry a good bit of luggage.
Parks in small spaces.
I find it easy to get in and out of...my husband would STRONGLY disagree.

Weakness:

TRANSMISSION..downshifts really hard when passing.
POWER WINDOWS..both went out on me at the same time.
BRAKES..$$$$$$$$ And what is that noise it makes in reverse?
***NOW it has idle itself down so low that it is un-drivable...any suggestions?

I want my money BACK! I paid way to much for the car for the trouble I have dealt with. I seem to have to fix the same problems again and again!

Love my little sportscar. It was great when I was single. Gas mileage has always been good. Great stereo. 200,000 miles and I am still fixing it. Buried the needle at 145 and it drove like a dream. Thought I could fly. Looks great, drives even better. Crazy in love.

Weakness:

I am getting ready to replace the transmission for the second time. My mechanic isn't happy. This one lasted three years. Leadfoot? Not meee. Even my 7&8 year old step-kids don't like the back seat. Bought a Toyota wagon for them. :) 2 years ago the timing belt went. Learned real fast what an interference head means. $$$$$ But for some reason it stays worth it to drive.

Need to win the lotto to keep up on the repairs. But I will probably be buried in it.
