How about owning it for ten years and putting on 234,000 miles?
I love my car; my turbo finally went out, mechanic said they usually last
about 100,000 miles, so I got an extra 134,000. I am so satisfied with it
I never lust for another vehicle. I owned a '77 corvette for eight years
and drove a l969 Mercedes 250 SL convertible, the Laser is the best yet.
I have had young tender parking attendants scare themselves silly, the
acceleration is sooo unexpected. Gas mileage is good. The only major repairs until yesterday have been replacing the CV boot and shaft, and I
was freaked about the timing belt never being replaced, so I volunteered
for that one. Otherwise, regular oil changes, new shoes(tires) and brakes
have been it for ten great years. I bought it new. Now I am faced with
replacing the turbo. I thought the clutch was going out since I couldn't
pass a couple of "grey-heads" on a mountain road. It is a real dog without
the turbo.

The fake back seats. They only look like human beings should sit back there. A friend of mine actually had nightmares that she had to get in the
back once more after a fairly long drive in the backseat. My radio dials
don't light up, the air conditioner hasn't worked for a while, however that may have been my fault. Went for months without turning it on at all and the seals dried up. I can't even complain about the $625 plus labor
to replace the turbo. I have always assumed when the time came, I'd just
replace the engine and keep on driving it. The hatch-back door do-hickies
keep failing and they are difficult to replace.

Give it all the stars plus one! The detailed reason? Driving 234,000 miles
without a major repair, passing chip and logging trucks, and the dreaded
RV's and the grey heads with no problem. I guess people who fear speed
should stay away from the Laser with a turbo. Also, anyone who double-dates
or has anything bigger than a toy poodle.

Like I said, it surpasses my corvette, and like others have said, people
don't expect the performance out of a plymouth. My friends and family
beg to drive it.

It's been overall a very dependable car. I can't say i've ever had any major problems with it.

The turbo model has a lot of pick-up so i wouldn't reccomend it as a first car. We all know that when we first get or liscense we push the limits of whatever ca we have. The laser red lines at 7,000 rpm and is a car that is made to be pushed.

Very fast, light weight car. Tho only 4 cyl, It has a 2.2L DOHC 5 speed. This car can have lots of upgrades to make the car move faster. Some popular upgrades for this car are Turbo (but no super charger, wont fit in the engine), racing mufflers, upgraded transmissions, and quick shifters.

Greats looks, love the shifter (despite all the problems everyone else seems to be having), the seats are dang near perfect, the turbo seems to have way more power than any other turbocharged car I've ever driven (seriously), handles excellent in the snow (and it's FWD too). And last but definetly not least.... it's a chick magnet...

Still wish I had the AWD model. You'd have more room in the back of a 2-seater Mazda Miata than this car! Stock spoke rims are embarassing looking (though I changed those). The rear looks plain as there's no spoiler or anything (though I changed that too. I put an Eagle Talon spoiler on my laser... All 3 1st gen. DSM cars are the same right?)

I honestly love this car. It's one of the easiest cars to modify and tweak to compete with the big boys. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this car is a chick magnet either. It has the most powerful turbo of any car I've ever driven.
But if you're into those family/sports cars then this isn't for you. It really is only a two seater with 2 seats crammed in the back. But if you're out for a cheaply priced but speedy car, this is for you.

Fast 0-60...great for cutting infront of v-8's. The powerful 2.0 195 hp turbo can completely embarass a 2001 Honda Civic Si (165 hp...hehehe) Its just like a 1992 Mustang 5.0 maybe better depending how you drive. Great gas mileage!!!

Dash is cracking. I have already had problems with the computer behind the radio...but thats expected in laser's talon's and eclpises.

For the price I paid...5 stars...bam!!! Computer problem killed me (350 bones)but the speed and acceleration make up for it. Its a great car!

transmission is definitly slipping
there is a permanent noise the car makes when you brake in reverse and the noise can not be fixed. It is loud and annoying, sounds like a heard of elephants. The car has really bad exceleration. I could have the gas peddal to the floor and it won't be going nowhere. It is an automatic and when I switch from drive to reverse or reverse to drive it shifts really hard.

This car has to many problems. I definitly got ripped off buy the dealer. The only thing good about it is that it runs. I would never reccomend this car to anyone.

This is an amazing car. The engine was a stroke of genius. It was so impressive that this car is listed as a Super Car with Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Although this car accelerates very quickly, handles beautifully, and takes curves very aggressively, the best thing about it may be the aftermarket work that can be done to it. For a very little amount of money, this car can be turned into one of the fastest cars you have ever been in.

Of course every car is going to have it's problems now and then. In mine, I have had a few troubles with the cluth master cylinder. Some people have also had a few troubles with the "electrics" in the car. Even though there are a few problems, like any car, they can all be corrected inexpensively in this car.

I bought my car in 1997 (currently 2001) just because I needed a car and this was the best of what I could afford. I had no idea what I was getting in to. I couldn't have made a better, or luckier choice. Driving is truly a pleasure, and this car makes every second a great one.

I have driven just about everything, including Porsches, Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, Corvettes etc..... The DSM (Laser, Eclipse, Talon) is better than some of these cars stock, but with a few additions it can be better than any of them.

Pure performance. Acceleration, ergonomics, appearance were the reasons I chose this car over several others. Great stock stereo. Good options list.

Turbo failed at 93,000. Timing belt recalled, replaced and then broke. Ugly repair costs. Trim and plastic panel tabs keep breaking. Hatchback struts failed. Brake system was poorly designed and expensive to maintain.

ABSOLUTELY the best bang for the buck. I once accelerated through 135 mph on a back country highway before I ran out of visible road and backed off. Let go of the steering wheel at 120 and it tracked straight and true. Scared the beejeebers out of my parents the first time I took them out in it. This is a car that has "timeless" design written all over it.

Keep up with the maintenance, invest in good parts and keep it clean. You'll enjoy it for a long time or have no problem selling it when the time comes. I wish I didn't have to sell mine.
