Strength:

I really like this car. I didn't pay alot for it and it looks sporty too.

Weakness:

The only weaknesses i found is that the guy before me didn't take care of it. I needed brakes and small other minor rapairs but was really abused.

I really love my car there is one problem though there is a loud clunk whgenever i switch gears from 1st to 2nd or when i slow down. If anyone has any suggestions or know what this might be please e-mail me.

Well compared to my '83 escort i used to have it's alot better. I put some neons in it and some fog lights on it so it looks even better.

Model Reviewed: Laser Rs Turbo

Strength:

1. Acceleration: That alone speaks loudly. Once that light turns green and your foot comes off the clutch you better be ready for a rocket type take off.
2. HIGH SPEED HANDELING: Now that is in a class of it's own. I have driven my LASER near and far and at some speeds that most people would consider deadly. Granted on any turn that you take way above the suggested speed limit you might have some rubber patches left on the pavement but with this little wheel base and turbo(that also kicks ass in 5th gear) you can whip around almost any turn with "Death Defying Precision".
3. A motor that will last a lifetime: Personally I have about 150,000 miles on the odometer, I have driven my Laser through thick mud at the oil fields, gravel patches, and had some of the worst things thinkable happen to my Laser but still, it pushes on as if it were meant to last.

Weakness:

1. I don't like lifting the hood to change the spark plugs and wires every 50,000 miles. It is not a big problem but if you don't change them then the performance of the turbo starts to go down. It is very cheap but a pain in the ass when it is cold out.
2. High raised rear end: Looking at the Laser from the side the rear end is a little higher than the front end. I have noticed that with my driving type and style that I have a lot of "Rear end skids" when completing a turn at high speeds. Thus if the rear was a little lower and had a slightly different aerodynamic to it; I think it would hold a little better.

Reason being that I have chosen to rate my car is because I believe that I have made a very smart investment in my travel and leisure plans. Whether I am going to work or just out for a drive, the Laser has proved to get me to and from my locations without giving me much trouble at all. If for some instance I am in a hurry to get somewhere and there is a Mustang GT beside me at the light in the lane that I wish to be in...I have no problem getting up enough speed before him to advance safely into the lane. Aside from that the handling and overall speed of the vehicle is AWESOME! My speedometer reaches above the 140mph range and the car itself goes well over the range of the meter. I can just hear what other drivers(that appreciate speed) are thinking..."Man, that car has some BIG ASS BALLS!"

Weakness:

well my sister had the car and kept it for year and half then my mom bought it for me the car had ground effects on it they sux the motor went out on it and we had to rebuild it then here recently i broke and cvc jion and an axle and while i done that my transmission went out on my car so this car has cost me alot of money more than i want to spend when they tare up the tare up and cost alot OH and dont even get me started on the back seat they isnt even called a back seat and the back defroster doesnt work and my brakes or something in the brake system constatly makes this weird sound we have put knew brakes and everything on it but you can still have this raddling sound ,so if you have had this to your car and you found out what it was please contact me at my email address

Strength:

Great on fuel, sleek looks, comfortible seats, amazing handling on tight corners, high top speed just takes a little while to get there

Weakness:

I've got the crappy four-banger so its slower than my mom's minivan and with the air on it can't get out of its own way, Gary Coleman couldn't fit in the back seats, dashboard cracked , heat takes 20 minutes to warm up but in FL that really doesn't matter, manual windows are a little difficult to get up and down

It's been a very reliable car, but in the mornings its makes weird sounds, but it never does it any other time of the day;the power mirrors broke;its started to rust, too; some idiot who owned the thing before me put in a cheap aftermarket sunroof on which one of the arms broke, so during a torrential rainstorm it leaked badly and now the car reeks, but if not for that, I'd keep it forever. However, if I could have found one, I would have definitely bought the turbo, since the 4-cyl is unbeleivably slow, I mean, only 92 horses on a "sports car", c'mon. Great 1st car, but not if you have a girlfriend since the back seat can't fit 1 person, let alone 2, believe me I've tried; pop-up lights are nice, because its easier to tell when you've accidently left your lights on, its saved my battery on a few occasions; I can drive for a week on a 1/4 of a tank of gas with the economy button on; lumbar support makes the drivers seat very comfortable great deal for the $$$, but its definitely worth spending a little more for the turbo

Strength:

Some dude in a 5.0 roles up next to you and asks to race. You say sure and smoke him off the line. The turbo model has incredible acceleration. Slick looking body design is always a plus. This car is great at making high speed turns because it is low to the ground. (also depends on tire choice) Great for all season driving, handles itself very well in the snow. If i had thw AWD model it would be even nicer. It's very compatible with most sound systems if your into that.

Weakness:

The so called seats in the back could only fit circus midgets comfortably. The raised back makes backing up a challenge if your short. Unfortunatly my model doesn't have the rear wiper which would be a plus. The lighting system (flip-ups) needed some improvements, fog lights did the trick. Repairs are big $$ since the "Plymouth" is actuallty a Mitsubishi engine. Turbo set me back $1100

This has been a great car for me. I'm at 113k miles right now and had to recently replace my turbo but from what i've read thats a normal thing. If you do have the turbo, its a good idea to keep an eye on the condition of the oil lines, my mechanics said that was probably what went wrong.

Treat your clutch with respect and she won't give you any problems, and like with every car (especially with the turbo) keep up with the oil changes.

As a valet, i've driven all kinds of cars, sure it's not as nice as the Jags or the Benz Compressor but it has just as much acceleration as they did. One of my friends has a non-turbo laser and wishes everyday that he had the power of the turbo engine.

Drives very steady. The already installed turbo made this car quicker than anyone around my way.

Weakness:

Now this is why I would think twice about getting another DSM. The window tracking in these vehicles get easily thrown off. *most DSM cars (laser, eclipse, talon) have a problem with the ECU. the ECU is the Engine Control Unit. basically it's the computer that anylzes your engine. now in my experince, i have known at least 4 DSMs around my way to have a problem with the motherboard of the ECU. the capicitor leaks due to heat, and the liquid eats away at the motherboard. if there is a constant problem with your car, ie. starting, ididling...any constant problem...check your ECU. the beginning stages of the ECU is a seafood type smell...then the problems occur. DO NOT SLEEP on this ECU problem. it can make your car go through some rought stuff...for more details go to www.clubdsm.com.

This is my first car. However I have driven a Laser before, the reason why I wanted to get one. The first time I saw this model, I was impressed. The color is a nice cherry red, and the wheels where designed well with the car. The driving is very nice and solid. I used to drag this car on the dragstrip. the performance modifications were inexpensive due to easy free mods to the turbo. My best time was 12.9 @ 133mph...very good race car...especially with the Import car racing scene.

Excellent speed, handling and performance. Great gas mileage. Comfortable seats (in the front of course) A DRIVING DREAM!!!
Rear defrost & wiper are such a plus!!

Weakness:

Repairs can be costly, make sure you have a *trustworthy* dealership.

I've had the car for 7 yrs, only stuck in the snow once & that was due to balding tires. Had some problems, but that was more the fault of the local dealership (only one here). Has 200,000 on it now, turbo has never failed, nor the a/c, or tansmission. Clutch replaced when the timing belt was recalled (didn't need to, but was a sound decision). The small back seat keeps ride moochers at bay. :) And I enjoy the flow-down back seats - don't have to get out of the car to get to the trunk. I love the car and will NEVER sell it. I never have to worry if I have enough time to pass - it's a given yes!!
