Strength:

Good power. Smooth ride. Good looks. Roomy.

Weakness:

Plastic engine parts. Transmission problems. Useless vehicle information cluster on dash. Expensive to repair. Difficult for the home mechanic to service.

The car has all of the room you could expect and will accomodate a family of 5. The ride is very smooth, the engine power is very impressive. This car gets excellent gas milage with the 3.8L 6-cyl engine. I have had problems with this car which I believe are due to engineering changes. The intake manifold (plenum) is made of plastic and failed at 96,000 miles. This almost caused a total engine failure due to coolant entering the engine. The 4T65E automatic transmission is in the shop getting rebuilt. The torque converter clutch is stuck operated. The brakes have been good although the front pads seem to wear out quickly. Overall, I am somewhat dissatisfied with the car mechanically. A car in this price range should be built better. I will not purchase another Bonneville because of the expensive problems I have had.

Strength:

Great power, many compliaments on the intierior, black leather with orange gages.

Weakness:

Traction broke, replaced oil sending unit, water pump, battery cables, oh yeah, the A/c repairs..... 1000 dollars, and one of the 3 coil things. The thing that powers two of the spark plugs.

I am a 20 year old college student. My bonne is the sse model with the leather seats and traction control. In the last two years I have put a 100,000 miles on it. Yes i drive alot. Just the other day the odometer turned to 180,000. yes, a 180,000. I cant believe it myself. I have had few problems with it. Just little stuff though. The traction control has never worked, the trac off light is on constantly. I drive the crap out of it and amazingly it keeps on going. I love this car and just may get another one but newer.

Strength:

Responsive gas pedal Roomy interior Good power Smooth ride Sharp car

Weakness:

Slow power windows (EXTREMELY SLOW in cold weather!!!) Other than that, this car doesn''t have many weaknesses!

I am pleased with this car. I have 123,000 miles on it. I really like the power it has and the responsiveness it posesses. I also like how roomy the interior is. I am 6''7" tall and have no problem feeling comfortable in it. I have had to replace some typical things on it. I actually did need to replace the whole front axel though. I also needed to replace the transmission. Despite things that needed replacing, the engine is the most important thing in a car and the 3800 engine is by far one of the best you can get. I know other people who have owned Bonnevilles who have been really pleased with them. Although I have had to replace a few things, I would definitely buy another one right after this one goes down (which shouldn''t be for a long time).

Very dependable, fair gas mileage even at her age (about 20 mpg, and enjoyable to drive.

Weakness:

Requires regular routine maintennance and 93 octane gas for good performance.

My Bonneville has over 254K on her and she still runs great. I have owned her for about three years now with no major problems.

SOILD, STRONG MOTOR, ROOMY, COMFORTABLE, HANDLES GREAT, VERY DEPENDABLE,THIS MIGHT BE A WEAKNESS BUT IT AMUSES ME: PUSH IN THE CIG LIGHTER AND THE DOME LIGHT COMES ON BUT ONLY IF THE FLOOR LIGHT IS OFF, REALLY IT COMES IN HANDY.

Weakness:

ANTENNA IN THE WINDSHEILD?IS WORTHLESS. FRAME JUST STARTING TO RUST OUT. BUT IT WASN''T MADE TO GO OFF-ROADING...REALLY IT HAS TO MUCH POWER FOR IN THE WINTER PLUS BEING REAR WHEEL DRIVE.

IT HAS A 305 V8.ITS A BOAT, THAT I HATED. BUT NOW I HATE TO PART WITH IT. I''VE HAD VERY FEW PROBLEMS WITH IT, IN 5 YEARS. JUST NOW STARTING TO BUT IT IS 18 YRS OLD BEEN THROUGH ALOT. I AM NOT EASY ON CARS TO SAY THE LEAST. IT''S A SOLDIER...I HAD THE HOOD IN A UP-SIDE DOWN V SHAPE WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE IMPORTANT PARTS,DROVE IT HOME. BEEN ON ITS SIDE W/O DAMAGE TO ME ON IT STILL RUNS LIKE THE DAY A BOUGHT IT, WHEN IT GOES THE THE BIG JUNK YARD IN THE SKY I THINK I MIGHT HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER.

Strength:

Gas mileage, powerful motor, great features, very comfortable, handles good.

Weakness:

Parts are expensive, some electrical problems with my car. Depreciates faster than you can pay it off. Blue book on mine is about 3K

I bought this car in October of 97 with 65K miles on it. I got the 24K or two year warranty with it and the ABS went out when the car was 10 miles over the warranty and the dealer wouldn''t fix it. It was VERY expensive to fix. Other than that, I haven''t had any problems with it until recently. The car now has 150,000 miles on it, and the gages on the dash flash on and off all the time, give erroneous readings, the radio turns on and off, changes stations, and turns the volume all the way up by itself. The dealer naturally doesn''t know what the problem is. But, I feel that I might have gotten some of my money''s worth out of it. I have drove this car on 3,000 mile road trips with no problems. The engine and supercharger have never let me down. This car has lots of power, and lots of room. I love all the cool features like the heads up display. I took this car out to a race track and paid 10 dollars to run it. I had it up to 120 mph and it was smooth as silk. No vibrations or anything. It felt like it had power to go faster if I wanted. Parts for this car are expensive. I had to replace the starter and did it myself, but the starter still costs almost 400 bucks at any auto parts store. You can''t just buy the silenoid. The alternator cost me around 200. The ABS part I needed was over 500 dollars and then I had to take it to the dealer so they could rip me off some more and reset the ABS computer. The paint on the rear bumper is flaking off like crazy, but the rest of the car''s paint is fine. I think that the car had been rear ended and fixed and had the rear bumper painted and the dealer must have forgotten to tell me. Overall though, I have been pretty happy with this car. I can probably fix the problems it has now easily. Just need the time. On long road trips, it has always been comfortable. I''ve drove it across the country numerous times. Drove it in a blinding New York blizzard, and 120 degree heat in Death Valley and it didn''t even think of quitting on me. I''ve contemplated selling this car several times, but just can''t do it.

Strength:

The syling is still appealing. The paint is still holding up. The interior is still in great shape - no cracks, tears or discoloration. All lights are still working. I don''t think I have ever had a bulb replace on this car. It cools and heats very well. The sound system is very good. I love the controls on the steering wheel for the radio/CD. The sunroof is nice and it doesn''t take much away from overall headroom. The trunk is room. There is also good storage space in the passenger compartment. I get good gas milage - 24 mpg average. 85% of my driving is highway. It''s still a joy to drive.

Weakness:

A lot of electronics - nice when they work; expensive when they don''t. When it gets hot out, the relays become tempermental and most electrical items will not work until they cool down. The engined is designed with a plastic manifold cover the has coolant piped through it. It can and does crack. It took some getting used to having a vehicle of this size with fwd. The traction control and ABS will get your attention initially. If you are traveling over an uneven surface and hit your breaks (no panic stopping), the ABS will be activated. Both systems have gone out and are an expensive propersition to repair. Placement and design of side mirrors create a lot of wind noise.

I bought the car after having rented a few of them. The size, sportiness and features are what attracted me. The car has been pretty reliable. Within the first two years, both the power steering and water pumps went out. The module that controls the climate system went out next - not under warranty. I am on my third engine - due to mechanic''s deliquence. The transmission went out around 95,000 miles, between engines 2 and 3 ($2400). I have put a lot miles on this vehicle - 125,000.
