Strength:

sporty looks, acceleration, power everything, PRICE, leather seats that breathe, great stereo, smooth transmission,

Weakness:

you have to be careful backing because of high trunk

Searched internet for 3 months, test drove many cars, and for the price, you can't(in my opinion) beat this car. Although we've only had it 6 weeks, we are more convinced than ever that it was a best buy for us. Time of course will tell. We paid 27,650 cdn at Ed Klassen GM dealership in Surrey BC Canada. The car is a 2 door coupe in black. I know, I know, black is so hard to keep clean. But with those plastic chrome wheels, it just looks so hot!!! We bought it for my wife, but we both fight over who's going to drive it to work. My wife figures it's a real tire biters car. People stop her all over town to comment on it. We love the stock stereo and although it's supposed to be eight channels, we could only locate six speakers. GM also makes one of the best automatic transmissions. It's sooo smooth!! We are in our fifties and this car might just be a mid life crisis, but hey, you only live once!!!

Strength:

-Strong V-6 for its Class
-Low geared ratio for performance 3.23
-Awesome Looks
-Great Performance Upgrades
-Handles Well for completely stock
-Girls LIKE IT
-Fastest Car in its class (stock)
-Standard ABS and Dual Air bags
-Keyless entry

Weakness:

-Minor Wind noise
-Brakes warp under hard braking (100,000 mile warranty though)

I'm really enjoying this car. It gets me were I need to go, looks good, and is a fun car to drive. I would compare this car to my friends BMW 3-series, I'm sure that is what Pontiac trys to imulate. But mine is MUCH faster and brakes just as good as his car, but lacks in the cornoring effect. If you looking for a nice car that will get the family from point a-b for about 20k, this is it. Cant be beat for safety and function. You get everything! Power everything, powerful V-6, great tranny, sweet sounding factory Monsoon Stero system w/ the GT's, leathter, steering wheel controls, the only option not avail is the HUD (heads up display). I opted for the Sedan cause I like the looks of it better, you would not be able to fit 2 large adults back there, but its great for children (not that I have any). The GT lives up to the name Pontiac has given it, a solid value and performance all in one.

-1995 BMW 328-My friends car. My 01 GT has smoked this car at Carlsbad Raceway in the 1/4 mile. His is a low geared 5spd w/ a V-6. His car does handle much better, but there are mods out for you to fix this if you wanted to. His is already lowered, STB's, 17's, and sway bars on it.

Model Reviewed: Grand AM SE 2.4L (3 Speed)

Strength:

Hella Cheep (12500 NEW, and with some options)
Fast for a V-4
Not too ulgy
Nice back seet/lots or room for a 2 door
Good gas miles
3-speed tranny is nice because you can really control when it shifts, I think you can get the same power as you could with the 4 speed.

Weakness:

The 2.4L is alittle weak, but its got enouth power for everyday driveing.
Cheep Stereo
Brakes get messed up slowing down from anything past 100mph

Im 16, and me and all my friends always mess around. The grand am has enouth power, but could use alittle more. I had it up to 107mph and it still wasn't toped out(I live in Wisconsin, we have lots of backroads). Overall the pick-up and take off is great between 0-40, but, 80-110 really sucks. The car can handle quite nice at higher speeds....alot better then my friends jeep can anyways. The stereo is ok. It needs more bass and just overall looks cheep. The seats are nice and soft. The back seat can be alittle small, but its not bad for a 2 door. Leg room is avrage. Its nice to get the 27 mpg easly with gas costing so much now. It's good for midage people who just need to get to work and back, without wasteing $50 in gas.

Overall its good if you don't need all that much power. As soon as I can afford a montey carlo I think im going to get one of those.

GEART DEAL FOR $12,500 NEW, I don't know how much cheeper you can get for a '98.

Model Reviewed: Grand Am SE

Strength:

* Fairly smooth ride
* Inexpensive

Weakness:

* Electrical-I have had so many different electrical problems I don't know where to start. Currently my ABS/Emergency Brake light come on and are disabled, but not all the time. I have a ticking sound (sounds like the signal indicator) which comes on at different times when I am not turning or signalling (It was fixed once but has returned after 7 months). The Fuel Pump indicator warning light comes on at least once a drive (The Fuel Pump actually had to be replaced after 61400 kilometres-the warranty had just expired and GM stuck me with the bill.) The power mirror switch fell into the door space after 42k.
* I have had 3 windows replaced, 2 of them twice!
* Fog light was burned out after 500 kilometres.
*

Overall, I would almost recommend someone to buy the car if their budget is limited. But if this is the case, they shouldn't buy the car because of the maintenance and repair costs, not to mention piece of mind. I have a GM Visa Card that will give me about $1800 towards the purchase of a new car. I am sad to say I will not use this incentive because of the difficulties I have had. I must also say I have never consistently had such poor service, throughout Ontario and Quebec. This total disregard for value customer service has made me think of purchasing a Japanese car soon. I wish with all my heart that GM go out of business since they've proven to me that they are incompetent in the car manufacturing and maintenance business.

Strength:

Style,Power,Handling,Sound system. Comfortable car for a trip, and I'm over 6' tall.

Weakness:

Terrible blind spot when looking over left shoulder to check traffic for lane change.
Self distructing characteristics of the vehicle.

I always thought of myself as a Pontiac sort of person. I loved the looks, the sound, the power and the sporty image. Well - this car wiped all that off the board. At 14000 miles the power steering pump took a powder. At least the car still looks good, right? The fun started right after the warranty ended. First the little " brain box" that controls the heater fan speeds decided it would only work on the last 3 speeds not the first 2.Then the self adjuster for the rear disc brakes broke, this screwed up the parking brakes. Next one of the 4 little bolts that hold the drivers seat to the power seat cylinders fell off. The trunk had a chronic leak - but only when it rained. The last straw was when the drivers power window fell down into the door. Had to replace the glass and the entire cable/pulley system in the door. The ONE piece that broke was made of plastic, go figure. Can you say KA-CHING?
NEVER again!!!

Strength:

it's fast
accelerates very quickly and sounds mean
the stereo's very good for a factory one
nice interior and really comfortable seats
the *ss! I love the back of my car! it's hard to hurt

Weakness:

the shocks...but I should change them
the power locks went out
the cigarette lighter too (no, it's not the fuse)
every once in a while the front two windows get stuck...that's scary
there's an electrical problem obviously
the ****ing dangley strap on the vanity mirror that wacks me in the face everytime I put the shade down!

This car has 166,000 miles on it. So...yeah. I think it's doing pretty damn great for that. Since I've had it the power steering went out and the water pump had to be replaced. Which was $600 dollars. There's also the problem with the locks and whatnot. I believe the airconditioner's starting to suck now. Not knowing too much about cars though, I don't know how much of this is due to the mass amount of mileage. Right now, it's doing wondefully. It's fast and handles beautifully. It is a pretty bumpy riding car right now. Shocks, bleh. But anyway all in all, I absolutely love my car and would seriously consider buying a new Grand AM if in the market.

Strength:

Transmission, interior, options

Weakness:

Weight, suspention, HANDELING.

This is not a bad car. It fails to live up to the press Pontiac puts out. Car is comfortable to drive, as long as you don't need to stop or manuver quickly. Transmission works well with the 3.4 liter V-6. Overall this car lacks the sporty, powerful feel of our previous car. Reliability is on par with the Contour, without the "Driving Exitement" Pontiac claims. My wife loves this car, so we'll keep it. Next purchase we'll try the GT. She loves the Grans Am style and comfort and has advised me she would like another. I can recomend the car, just don't expect too much.

The whole car is a money pit. Nothing works the way it should

This car has given me nothing but problems and headaches!! This is the worst car I have ever owned. I will NEVER buy another GM product EVER. I have put over 5000 dollars in repairs in the past three years. The Expansion valve for the AC went out, $500, the brakes need to bechanged every year. There has been major engine repair done to it. The head gasket blew out and coolant was pouring into the oil pan and cylinders. That cost over $1000 to repair. There is an electrical problem the lights will flicker while driving, I have replace the spark plug wires and serpentine belt after being only one year old. The driver side power window does not work. the check engine light comes on all the time. I have not found a mechanic that know why. The car idles at 2500 RPMS and then stalls out. The latest problem is the heater. The blower just went out and that is going to cost at least $700. If I can offer anyone any wisdom I would suggets to NEVER BUY ANOTHER PONTIAC CAR EVER!!!!! This is the worst car company in the world. I wish there was a rating lower that one star.
