Reliability. This car goes nomatter where or when. I am very pleased with my car. I bought it with limited funds and was very satisfied with the results. I have always prefered Pontiacs, and I have wanted a Grand Am for several years. But I am looking at the car objectivly. Gas milage is great. I get about 28MPG on an engine with over 85,000 miles. The car starts as soon as I turn the key. Other postings I have seen complaints regarding the brakes, the brakes on my car are almost too good. Easy presure on the pedal stops my car without pull from one side or the other. I find the car very comfortable. My kids with thier stuff, there is plenty of room for trips away from home for 1-2 nights. This is a great car for a great price.

Weakness:

The drivers side speaker has blown, there is an air leak in the driver side door when I reach highway speeds. Other than that, it is a great car, exp. for the price

Once again, highly recomended. I have been totaly satisfied with the car. The MPG is great. Highway speed is no problem, even with the 4cyl engine. No major problems with the car. In fact, the FEW problems I have had, I blame the previous owner of the car with lack of care and maintenance. I don't intend on parting with this car any time soon, but when I do, it will be for another Grand Am.

Strength:

Good tourck
Looks sporty, spoiler looks great
Nice fog Lights

Weakness:

This car is a crap!!! Wish it was never made! Engine blow at 15,000mi. Eats ruber like no other car on earth. Fuel economy sucks.
SLOW as a dunky
Feels very heavy
Can't handle corners at all!
Brakes all the time

The greatest reason i hate is becouse of it's incoract front wheel drive
in the raine, the wheels begin to trail off. While stoping, the front tiers make fell like they are going to rip off, and all kinds of noises.
Every time I drove i felt like I was going to die making a corner.

Strength:

I really like the acceleration of this car. I have a feeling that if it were an automatic it wouldnt even get out of its own way. The a/c and heater work very good. This is one of the easiest cars that I have ever driven. Good car to learn how to drive stick in.

Weakness:

alternator went bad. Clutch had to be replaced but that is going to happen after 130k. The windows seem to be hard to roll up and down except for the drivers window and that is because it was replaced. Water on the drivers floor panel which I am not sure where it came from. There are no big problems with this car. Just maintenance

This is a great car for gas mileage. It also is a great car for a kid to have for a first car. It is easy to drive and very comfortable, and quiet at high speeds. Very smooth at all speeds. engine sounds good even after 145k. stereo sounds good for being as old as it is ( I had to change it because i wanted to put a system in it). Overall this is a great car and my family has been the only owner since it was new (mom, brother, me).

Strength:

-Strong 3.4L RAM AIR V6 (great sound)
-styling
-Great handling
-Chrome wheels
-Interior ergonomics
-8-speaker monsoon stereo (CD & cassette)
-Ignition on dash instead of on steering column
-Radio & cruise control buttons on steering wheel
-Very comfortable seating
-Large trunk

Weakness:

-Chrome wheels aren't really chrome
-Gas mileage isn't what I thought it would be

This is a great car for the money. I bought my GT1 at the end of March 2001 and it only had 9700 miles on it. I have every option available and there isn't anything else that I could want on it. The power of the 3.4L RAM AIR V6 is awesome. When Pontiac says that this car is solid, they aren't B.S.'n you. I researched all kinds of cars for about 4 months, and this car always stood out. If you're looking for car with great performance and a great price, this is the car.

I fill my gas tank every other week. My car is very dependable I love it. Huge trunk space, very roomy I can fit up to 5 people in my car besides myself. My car is the most dependable car to me and I would love to buy a newer model of the Grand Am but this time I would buy a V6.

Weakness:

Seats are uncomfortable but I bought seat covers that softend the ride for me and now I feel more relaxed when driving it.

I would reccommed this car to anyone. It is an ideal car for a first time driver. It is easly to handle and it is considered a midsized vehicle. But if you don't take care of the car it will not be as dependable. I would definatly buy another Pontiac.

1998 Chevy Cavalier and a 1998 Saturn. I still like the Grand Am better it is bigger and I don't feel as cramped as I was in the Cavalier and Saturn. The Saturn ws to low to the ground and I didn't feel comfortable driving it.

NONE!!!!

Weakness:

Be warned, this car is a peice of crap! It is a nightmare to own. With constant repairs to be made, it will leave you wishing that it had never been made. See list below for all the gruesome details.

This car should have been recalled, it is a death trap. Around 4 years ago the paint started peeling, and this is when I found out that the paint used on this model was defective. Also in the course of 4 years I have had the brakes replaced 5, yes 5, times!! This car eats brakes, rotors, shocks, you name it! Also the alignment keeps going, it doesnt matter how big the pot hole was, the alignment will be shot. Forget about driving it in the winter, it cannot handle the snow and ice. I have had many close calls in this car, the brakes wont stop the car and the steering cannot be controlled. The summer brings a totally new set of problems... like overheating for no apparent reason. I had the thermostat changed like 3 times in one summer, but nothing worked. Also the heating and AC are shot, they work but after about 5 minutes it smells like something is burning. Also, the front drivers side door lets rain in the panel, causing rust at the bottom of the door. Speaking of leakage, the trunk lets in soooooo much water when it rains, that I cant keep anything in there. And forget about having a great engine or transmission. In the past 2 months I have spent over the Kelly Blue Book value trying to seal up all the oil leaks, only to have more along with transmission leaks! And I replaced the original transmission 3 years ago becuase it rotted out and fell off while I was driving! I have been told by many mechanics that the 4 cyl. engine is the worst made by GM and will give me nothing but headaches, and it has lived up to this. I cant remember if there are any more problems, but Im sure there are. All in all, to save your money, time and saftey, DO NOT buy this car (or any other model with a 4cyl)!!!

Strength:

it's has a very good pick up and go, the stereo system sounds like it has a kicker box in it, the disign on the doors is what i really like which might sound weird, it's a really nice car and all my friends love riding in it.

Weakness:

the transmission, which i just blew yesterday so now i have to pay an arm and a leg for a new one. nothing else

For anyone who says anything bad about Pontiac Grand Ams should actually think about what they are saying because they know nothing then. this car is very good in snowy and rainy conditions. i havent had any problems with this car until yesterday. if they want to look cool and have a nice sports car, why go for a camaro or something useless like that, go for a Grand Am, you'll be proud that you chose it.

Strength:

Acceleration, handling, styling are phenomenal compared to my last car. Sound is very good. Interior design is also very well-thought-out.

Weakness:

Could be a bit roomier, but then again I am 6'1" and 240 lbs... ;-)
Rear seat's a bit small for me, but then again I'm seldom back there.
Bet you haven't read this before... the brakes seem a bit weak.

The first thing I thought when I saw this car was "Man, that's a good-looking car." Everything works, I like the aggressive styling, and its being black doesn't hurt.
Then I got in, noticed how well it fit around me even though I'm a big guy with some wide shoulders, and noticed that my dad, also built pretty big, wasn't close to being cramped, so that's a plus.
Then I got to drive the thing, and man, that 3.1 liter v6 has some kick compared to the little 4-banger in the Plymouth Acclaim I had previously. The styling inside is very cool as well, in my 18-year-old male opinion anyway (heh, in my girlfriend's too).
There are a number of functional amenities on my car, including power windows, locks, storage in the center console, 4 cupholders, big glove compartment, decent sized trunk with 60/40 folding rear bench and trunk passthrough, and little compartments all around to hold the detritus of daily life.
It seems to be pretty decent on gas, well, as long as it's not in too many drag races... *innocent look*
The brakes seem to be lacking, not that I've had trouble stopping, just they don't feel as solid as they should given the power this car can make.
However, what sticks in my mind about this car is the overall FEEL... it's just solidly designed and feels connected to the road. Handling is absolutely amazing, which contributes to the solid feel. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this car to a buyer looking for an inexpensive, fun ride with quite a few practical features thrown in.

Fast! Very impressed with the speed and the handling. If you like a car that takes corners well-the GT should be your choice. This car is advertised as being "solid" and for the most part it's true...The GT also has more comfortable seats.

Weakness:

My biggest complaint would be the that you cannot manually turn off the headlights when the car is running at night. It makes going to a drive-in on a cool night a problem if you need to have the car running for heat once in awhile. Other than than, it's been a great car.

GM is on the right track...definately improved from the older grand am's.
