Model Reviewed: Camry LE V6

Strength:

As is suggested in some of the comments, consider getting the V6. I got it and I love it. It costs more, but the engine and transmission combo for this package run as smooth as silk, and 15" wheels. The combination of smoothness, power and reliability of the car is unmatched in my mind. Overall quality of the car is excellent. I also got the alloy wheels, recommended.

Weakness:

Minor gripes: no temperature/climate control option available, braking (more so in cold weather) could be a little better, rattle in the right front wheel, tires only lasted 26,000 miles (Generals). Also, expecting that the gas tank capacity was 18 gallons (as rated), I ran out of gas one time. It only took 17 gallons to fill it up. This again is minor, but had I ran out on the highway, causing a safety problem, it would not have been minor.

Recommended because of quality, performance, style and reliability.

Strength:

Looks (I got the rear spoiler). Handling is also good.

Weakness:

Lots of minor problems, replace struts after 18 mos., rubbing noises in the tires that I complained about 3 or 4 times - the dealer can't seem to fix this completely. Also, the drivers seat was replaced twice and still slips (and I am a small built female), so it can't be due to excess weight.

Although I've enjoyed the comfortable ride, the decent acceleration and the looks, I won't buy another Camry. I've had to have it in the shop too many times for a new car; mostly annoying things that were covered under warranty - struts, drivers seat track, and tire problems.

Strength:

Nice acceleration for a 4Cyl
Drives smooth
Corners on a dime(after market 225mm tires installed)
Looks nice (great contour lines)

Weakness:

I wish I had purchased the V6, although I may invest in the factory supercharger for added power.

Its my second Camry and my thrid Toyota. No one can beat the reliability. Even when I drove my first camry for well over 100k miles. I never once turned the key and it didnt start. I flooded my corolla in water that went over the hood of the car once when I got through the car started right up and I drove it home (unfortunately the carpet had to be replaced though). I I cant trust that then what can I trust.

Strength:

Spacious and comfortable, nice tail look for the 2000 model, runs smooth and steady, nice 6 speaker stereo with CD.

Weakness:

Nosiy while running over 60mph, slow acceleration. there is a block between the trunk and back seat. I can't put long wide package in even if I fold down the back seat. A 91 Corrola has better folderable back seat design. No remote trunk release.

You can't go wrong buying a Camery. It is a good choice for a worry-free family car.

Strength:

Fellows, I've got a WAGON - current model, you won't find one in US. There is plenty of room + back seats are 60/40/100 + a cargo blind. The wagon is fantastic! The fuel economy is good for the given weight. The engine is nearly silent even for 4 cyl at 3500 rpm. Driving is comfortable, controls are great. The auto transmission is very good.

Weakness:

Don't buy 4 cyl ! There is enough power for a/cond + auto transmission at 2000 rpm, but there is no torque to start, to overtake. Paint is bad, audio system is the Fujitsu ten, the cheapest one. Seats are flat, won't support you much on sharp turns. I don't feel fun to drive, it's too heavy for 2.2L engine.

I would recomend it to buy with 6 cyl engine. It is a pitty then Nissan Maxima doesn't have a wagon version. I recon service cost is quite high if you compare with Nissan.

I had Volvo 245 wagon, it could not climb the hill when air conditioner was on. Nissan Pulsar SSS with 2L engine had fantastic torque, but no power to drive 4 people if air is on. Also too small for a family.

Strength:

The car is my parents but boy do I love to drive it. The best thing about it is the sound system. For a stock stereo, it pounds harder than any other comparable brand. The speakers are awesome on the basic le package. Ford cannot even compare to this. This car also goes a long way on one tank of gas.

Weakness:

The 4 cylinder is very weak. It wines and moans a lot and is slow. Buy a v6 or go home!

I would recommend this to someone who wants a nice stock sound system. Buy a v6 engine, or stay at home.

Strength:

5-speed manual :) Rather gutsy for a 2.0 4-cylinder, not hard on the gas at all, solid steering, sounds nice even with factory exhaust.

Weakness:

Rear drums, a few dash and interior rattles/shakes, noisy around the 4000-5000 RPM mark, front wheel drive (go around a gravel-covered corner at speed and you'll see what I mean.)

For a start, I got this car for the right price. An absolute steal at US$1750, or about $3500 Australian. I commute to uni most days and deliver pizzas (I can hear you laughing from here) so my needs are simple, and this car delivers it all. The engine only has about 110hp (88kW) in it, so it's no speed machine, but it'll blow most new Hyundai's off the line...no big accomplishment, I know, but not bad for a 13 year old car. I've heard (nay, experienced) that the 4-speed auto trans version of this car is a bucket of pus, so I'm glad the rather rare 5-speed just happened to crop up at the right time. Also, no need to screw about with trans fluid. My specimen is also free of power steering...sounds bad, but it's easy to get used to, and means one less thing to keep the fluid up to. Oh, and dry steering is safe when needed. The CS model is also reasonably well featured inside. If there was one thing that pissed me off about the ol' POS (aka. Volvo) it was having to turn the engine off so I could get the key to open the friggin' trunk. Overall, the '87 Camry is by no means a new car. Mine was owned once previously, by a lil old lady, so mine looks only about 5 years old, but that was a lucky one. Most have heaps of miles and lots of supermarket dents in the door panels and etc. Also, look out for rust around the windshield and rear window, I found a lil just the other day. Apart from that, if you find a good one, grab it, because, even if it won't give you much more than a ride from A to B, it will give you everything but trouble.

Name only!

Weakness:

Poor quality control and build. Rattles in dash and in body panels, squeaks in front seat after one month, body roll, poor struts and suspension, slugglish 4 cyl., poor service maintenance and support form Toyota Canada.

I would not recommend this car to anyone. We sold it after less than a year. Toyota does not stand behind their products and the quality is second to none if you are talking about the bottom of the heap. Buy anything, but not a Toyota! I wished I had bought something else,.....

Model Reviewed: XLE V6

Strength:

V6 Engine is very lively and fast. Smooth as butter no problems at all.
Even for 97000 miles it runs like new.. though the previous owner was good to it. Suspension is great for how i drive, i like to cruise around and open it up on the highway.. i used to own a honda prelude/HB accord and they were better in turns but im older now (21) from being 16-17 then and i like a smoother quieter, sophisticated ride. HVAC is good. Got 4 new all season tires on it very nice. My dad has a 92 LE 4 cylinder and hes had it for a year and nothing but oil changes. I have had not heard of a recall or any single problem with this year V6. My car for the miles is almost like brand new.. paint is almost flawless yet.

Weakness:

The brakes aren't super great but they get the job done.
Wish they could have put a bigger alternator on these cars 90 amp would
be better than the 80. Sure the turning/cornering sucks but why would you buy this car and then complain about that?? buy a accord then. Sure its quiet and boring car. And its exterior is boring but think about it?? why did you buy this car then. thats all i have to say about that

I would reccomend a Camry to anyone who wants a quiet, stable, semi-sophisticated ride for the money. With the V6 its a great crusier.
If you want sporty handling, loud engine noise, 5 speed etc etc get a Accord coupe V6, galant, altima, maxima, whatever. If you can afford it get the Lexus ES300. Sure ive heard and seen the Quality of toyotas products get worse as the newer models 95+ came around. But doesn't every car maker do this?? no surprise. Thats all i gotta say
