Strength:

-Insanely reliable, will run until the body rusts off
-Does every at least adequately
-Could pass as a much more expensive car

Weakness:

-Somewhat booring
-Hasn't changed much over the years (but then again, it didn't need to)

If you want a car that will never give you a problem or an issue to gripe about, you can't go wrong with the Toyota Camry. Our 1988 had 145,000 miles on it when we sold it; we never had a single problem, and it never had work done but scheduled repairs. The seats are comfortable, the interior is egronomically perfect, it handles safely and adequatly, and accellerate adequately. The V6 is basically a Lexus LS 400. I would highly recommend this car for any family in need of practical transportation.

Strength:

Tight, everything works as supposed to, seats made for people w/back problems, anvil-like quality, lights up the night better than most sedans, decent looks.

Weakness:

Well, the 4 cyl sucks, it just sucks. We tried to find a 6 but to no avail. Price gouging w/6's is an ongoing practice around here. I've tried everything to scrape more power out of this puny engine, but I can't. It needs a little more room in the back seat, also. 2 things I have found on this car that is very, very un-Toyotalike. 1) the release for the hood feels like it come from an '88 Hyundai Excel.

2) The knob for the radio is cheap, cheap, cheap and comes off very easy and is impossible to get the sound right.

That's about it.

Paid 17,000. Yes, I do recommed it. This is a car for people going from pt A to pt B w/out thinking. This car will nearly drive itself.

Model Reviewed: V6 XLE

Strength:

Quality engineering, reliability, good feel car, nice ride and ample power, excellent gas mileage.

Weakness:

If you like sport car, this car might get you bored to death.
Paint gets chipped rather easily, so so quality leather.
Engine revs too high when it is cold.

First off, buy this vehicle if you like ultra smooth ride and near silent cabin. Otherwise, it bores you badly. Other than that, it would be a hard act for other manufacturer to follow Toyota in this respect. Consider getting the V6 if economy allows as the difference compared to the 4 in line is day and night. This engine by many pros is considered the best 6 cylinder ever built regardless of price. I have driven this car for near 25000 mile, and except a few minors, it has delivered what had been intended by design. This is the vehicle of choice for long haul in terms of comfort and economy. It gives you above 30 mpg consistency at 75 mph with air and loaded cabin. Still drives, feels and looks like first months. If you are stressed at work, get out of the office and take a joy ride with it. It will come you down.
Perfect luxury vehicle under $30k.
If you care about name, then Lexus ES300 might be the ticket. Two vehicles are identical except the cosmetics and some mechanical differences. Lexus also comes with a longer warranty.

World-Class engineering/soundproofing.

Weakness:

Decently peppy Inline-4 a bit underpowered but does the job without fuss.

Hey there Jeremy, sorry to say but you're wrong in a lot of areas. First off, the Toyota Camry is the number one selling car in America not because of ingenius marketing strategies, not because of mistake, but because this car has intristic qualities that none other can offer. It's many time's been called America's best built car. World class engineering make this car shine like a real gem. It's ride quality and interior sound levels compete against cars costing tens of thousands more. It is quieter than a 2000 Mercedes Benz E Class for goodness sake!! From it's excellently insulated passenger cabin, to it's 0.30G drag cooeficient, to reduce wind noise, this car is well thought out and extremely well engineered. No wonder it was picked "Best Pick" from the Insurance Institute for High way safety. The Accord was rated "Acceptable" While in some areas "poor", such as the foot area where the crash dummy in the Accord had his feet torn apart by the Major footwell intrusion. The Camry? No intrusion whatsoever and the safety cage/structure remained 100% intact and it is HIGHLY rigid. Another safety point the camry has that the accord doesnt is it's Automatic pretensioners to take up slack upon a frontal collision. Also it's safety hood hooks to hold down the hood in case you hit a high truck or SUV, the hood wont come in the window and slice off the passengers heads or puncture the rib cage like in the Accord. The Camry was also the first to offer side impact airbags. For over ten years, the Camry has been proven in reliability, safety, and durability. No wonder it's america's favorite car.

TOYOTA | there for you everyday

The car is very big. It's very comfortable once u get started and u keep a certain speed. Audio is wonderful. Steering is excellent.

Weakness:

Well the only two weaknesses I think the 97 camry has would be the brake. And also the inline-4 is not strong enough to acclerate the car. But once u maintain a certain speed it's very comfortable. It's just that when u acclerate it makes a huge noise and u still aint moving fast enough.

i paid 23,000 for mine. I think if I had bought a v6 and the brake was fine. This would be a great car for me. You can make this car real phat. Get a all black. tint the windows, sunroof. Hook it up with some real nice sound system. than you can go pimp your car. hehe good luck.

comfortable, good looking, good value, overall satisfaction.

Weakness:

hourse power, too populor so everyone has one.

i have to say this is a good car for everyone. "overall" value is good, but nothing is outstanding.
mine is V-4 so the engine sucks. you never get enough power when you need it.
i live near san francisco so you can imagine how i feel. the audio system is OK ,but not outstanding.
i don't like the while because it is 14".
it is too small compare to 17" or 18" on Tarus.
the paint of the car is too thin so most scratch will stay with you.
if you want a car with perfect "overall" value, this is the one.
it will be healty for a long long time.
you probably will keep your camry longer than most of your girlfriends.

Model Reviewed: Camry LE V6

Strength:

Reliability: I have not had one single problem with it
Performance: Acceleration is great, which makes me feel very secure merging into highway traffic moving at 65-70mph from a virtual standstill
Comfortable: The seats are comfortable and there's plenty of legroom and headroom (I'm 6'2", and don't fit well in many cars)
Design: Toyota's engineers really put a lot of thought into this car. The cruise control is easily operated without changing your hand position; the cupholders can easily accomodate all but the largest soda cups and don't interfere with the stereo controls.

Weakness:

The VIP 3000 security system automatically locks the doors when you turn on the engine and automatically unlocks them when you turn off the engine. I like this feature. However, if you lock or unlock the doors manually or with the power lock switch, the security system gets totally confused. 99% of the time, I'm the only one in the car, but I frequently run into problems when I have passengers.

I leased it; I think the sticker price of the vehicle was about $24,000.

I'd definitely recommend the Camry. It's a bit sedate, so most young people would probably want something a bit sportier. However, if you're looking for a well-built car that looks good and has near 100% reliability, consider a Camry.

Strength:

Stereo System.
Ability to catch and burn plastic bags.

Weakness:

engine, suspension, brakes, ergonomics, fuel economy (4 cyl!!!!!)

Where to begin?? My experience with my brand new 99 Camry has been nothing short of hell on Earth.

When I first got the car, I noticed a scratch on the plastic next to the gear shifter. I showed it to the dealer who responded it was better to not replace the plastic, because the mechanics would never be able to re-assemble it correctly. I should have started to get worried then....

Two days into owning the car, the check-engine light mysteriously began to come on and off. I called the dealer who insisted nothing was wrong with the car, that I must have put gas in the car with the engine running. Funny, I hadn't even put any gas in the car yet. Next came the driver's side window....

One day I decided to go out. I open my window and think nothing of it. I go into a store, but never lost sight of my car through the window. When I came out, I went to raise the front windows. Guess what? My driver's side window wouldn't raise. I looked in the window, to see my track was bent. So for the next week, I got to drive around with a piece of plastic and cardboard in my window, just like I used to do with my 1984 mercury marquis. I went to the dealer, who agreed to fix it. They did however note they were doing me a favor because the damage cleared occurred from "impact". That's funny because a) My camry is garaged and b) There wasn't a scratch on this tin can of a car.

1 month later, the SAME thing happened. Now, they had to order the part, which took a month itself. Plus, they couldn't install it on a weekend (they only do oil changes then) so I had to miss a day of work to get my 99 repaired. According to the guy at the dealership this is a common problem with the late models camry's and corolla's which "Toyota just hasn't bothered to fix" (A dealer said this!!) Also he said there is a problem with the oxygen sensors. Haven't run into that one yet, but I am waiting for it any day now.... We haven't even got to the brakes yet.

Around 7,000 miles into my terrible journey with this car, my brake light began to randomly come on and off. Concerned about what may arguably be the most single system in the car, I brought it back to the dealership. After waiting for 5 hours to get someone to look at the car, I was told I just needed a little brake fluid and I was good to go. When asked where this brake fluid mysteriously vanished to, I was told, "it happens sometimes on these cars." After all I had been through, I would believe anything at this point, so off I went. At about 8,000 I began to hear a loud noise akin to a CRUNCH coming from my front end whenever I would brake. Not wanting to believe I had already went through brakes at 8k miles, I continued to drive. At 8,500 miles, the sound became unbearable, so I went to my personal mechanic.

Upon inspection, it turned out that not only had I eaten through my brake pad, I had also done considerable damage to my rotor.... This will teach me to ignore a chruchy brake I guess.

Those were the major things, I guess. Some misc. things:
1) The car gets the worst mileage I have ever seen in a 4cyl car. I measured it at an average of 17 mpg. But clearly, when you drive it you understand why. The engine is much, MUCH too small for such a big hunk of car. I have no doubt that the engineers who slapped that undersized engine in that car stay up at night laughing at all the fools who would buy that car.

2) The car accelerated so slowly that the car is literally a hazard when trying to get up to highway speeds. Many a time my life has almost been snuffed out from me, all because my car just didn't want to play on the highway. To me, every highway feels like the Autobahn, and I am in a go-cart....

3) Around the same time the my brakes started to crunch, I decided to inspect my tires. Guess what?? The two passenger side tires had both developed a disturbing bubble that looked ready to rupture at the slightest prompting. That was a nice $200 repair.

4) On highway on or off ramps, even the slightest of curvature causes a hum to come from the back tires, and the car leans like it is just about to lose control in the back.

5) Cadillac prides itself on the stabilitrac system. I guess Toyota prides itself on its instabilitrac system. I've never experienced a car that can spontaneously bounce in the vertical plane like a rapper's 66 imapala. Also, I can't say that I have experienced the pleasures of lateral bounce during low-speed cornering. Ever! Everyday, I find something new wrong with this car in a part of it I didn't think possible.

6) Finally, I would find my commute more comfortable if I was sitting in a wooden Watermelon crate then the Camry's seats. My backside cries out in pain everyday at the thought of going back into those seats.

Toyota's marketing slogan is "Toyota, Everyday". I cringe when I hear this. To me, that line is like a prison sentence one would receive for the worst criminal offense imaginable. In summation, I can not stress enough the fact that I would not buy this car. The car is overpriced and poorly designed, and that is putting it kindly. If I can stop one person, just one from buying this piece of garbage, I would at least feel like all that I have gone through wasn't in vain. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to email me at vignon@hotmail.com, and I can probably tell you even more.

DO NOT believe consumer reports for ONE SECOND! Every page lists how "Great" the Camry is. This is complete and utter BS. I would feel better riding my dog into work every day then driving this car. PLEASE, PLEASE do not shackle yourself into this car for five years like I did. It is unsafe, and in many many respects unusable. Do not believe the Toyota propaganda.

Strength:

This car is rather refined and comfortable.

Weakness:

The 136hp engine is pathetic, making acceleration very sluggish. The styling of the car is boring, and nobody appreciates a Camry.

For the price I paid, this car was not worth it. It's no fun to drive or look at, and everyone has one. If you want to blend in with the traffic, this car is for you. Otherwise, I would look at other sedans.
