Strength:

Reliability, smooth quiet ride, comfortable seats, nice interior, quality stereo system, lots of room, dependability, hardly ever in the shop for repairs, good air conditioner and heater

Weakness:

bad front brakes, cheap wheel covers, steering wheel squeeks and squeals, power window goes out at times on the driver's side, cheap rear cup holder broke the first couple months I had it, paint chips easily, service department

I love this car! I used to sell Toyotas and never felt I was selling anyone a bad product. With the way I drive this poor car, I'm suprised it has never, ever been in the shop!! It still looks new, drives like a new car, has been all over the USA without any problems. I definate feel you get your moneys worth when you buy a Toyota. Compared to other imports, Toyota ranks #1.

Similar Products Used:

1994 Nissan Maxima - Maxima more expensive, air conditioning and heater very weak, might as well not even have one, cheep interior, otherwise pretty comparable reliability wise.
1991 Mitsubishi Gallant - (5-speed manual, nothing automatic) Actually, this car was great, but this was the only year the Gallant was considered reliable.
1990 Toyota Corolla DX - this car will not die!! At 250,000 miles, it is still running strong and has, to this day, never been in the shop.
1998 Honda Accord - Car's alright, but way too expensive! The engine light was always on, uncomfortable seats, too many "recommended" check ups...not impressed.

Toyota Reliability, Pretty cheap

Weakness:

Speakers, 4 Cyl engine, suspension/shocks, Seats

I own another toyota, the new sienna. My camry is ok for the money, i mostly look at toyotas proven reliability. the 4 banger isn't the smoothest but it gets me where i wanna go around town. The seats are kind of awkward. And the shocks aren't too good either, feels like a bumpy ride every time i get in it. I have the basic std. features, nothing to fancy, am/fm, radio cass. cd stereo 6 speakers (not jbl), the rear ones aren't that good. pwr windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry. I drove to AL in it, didn't have any problems. I have 15k miles on it now. Overall its pretty good.

My impression of the Camry is that this is one of the best cars ever made. YES I SAID IT { BEST MADE } The car was given to me by my father it had oh 92,000 miles on it five years ago. Well I drove the you know what out of it in the last five years. My wife would ask me when are you going to let it go, and I would tell her that I am going to keep it until the engine or the transmission goes, well the tranie just quit and can you guess how many miles. 409,000 THATS RIGHT
MAYBE YOUR UNDERSTAND NOW THE BEST EVER!!!!!!

Model Reviewed: Camry LE, 4cyl.

Strength:

Very mechanically sound and reliable. Have had no problems whatsoever with the engine, drivetrain, transmission, steering, or suspension. Just change the oil every 3,000 miles and keep driving! (Mobil-1 synthetic 10w-30) I also have all the fluids changed every 12 months...regardless of miles driven. Transmission, coolant, brake fluid, etc. If you do this, your Toyota will last and last and last. A very reliable vehilce for the conservative, cost-conscience consumer.

Weakness:

Yes, as others have said, the paint seems to chip quite easily! During the first 5,000 miles, my hood already looked as though it had gone through sand-blasting. Also the factory Goodyear tires were found to be defective, and replaced by the dealer under warranty after only 4,000 miles. I've had 2 inside door handles crack and break, which the dealer acknowledges happens quite often on the 95 camrys. These were also replaced under warranty. But when the 3rd one broke...(no longer under warranty!!) the dealer charged me over $120 to install a new handle. The plastic handles seem to be very cheaply made. No other major problems to report.

My 1995 Toyota Camry LE 4cyl has been an excellent car! This is the first vehicle that I have kept for over 3 years. Except for a few minor flaws (noted below) this car has been very reliable and dependable. I live very close to work, and I drive mostly around town, with lots of short trips, many times not even giving the engine time to warm up! But this car has never missed a beat!

Some people may say that the 4cyl engine lacks power, and I would have to agree if you are hauling around 4 people and have the AC on. When entering the freeway with a full load of people, you have to really put your foot in it to get up to speed. In the future, I would definitely buy the 6cyl engine. I think its worth the extra cost.

This car is perfect for the person who just wants a comfortable, conservative car for basic transportation and commuting to work. If you can find a good, used 96 or earlier Camry with low miles, it would be well worth your money to purchase that car.

Toyota really cheapened up the Camrys starting with the 97 model year. There is a noticeable difference in quality and workmanship in my parents' 97 Camry, as compared to my 95. Toyota really cut corners on workmanship that are not obvious or apparent to the average buyer. If you look in the trunk, and under the carpet, and in the engine compartment, and inspect the quality of the plastic and metal on the newer Camrys, you will see a big difference from the earlier models. The new models are still a very good car, but Toyota was definitely trying to save money with the design of the new models. I am very curious to see what the new 2002's will be like.

In summary, I will keep driving this car until it falls apart....which I don't think will happen any time soon. I expect to get over 200,000 miles on this vehicle with no major problems. I have always been tempted to buy a shiny new model car every 3 years or so... but I think I have finally found the car I will stick with... until it dies, or me! which ever comes first!

Have always bought Japanese products in the past... Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and have been very pleased and satisfied. I don't think I would ever purchase an American built vehicle. I have too many friends who are always having problems with their new Fords, Chevys, and Dodges.....while my rice-burners just keep going, and going, and going!!! I have never really had major problems with ANY Japanese car. And so far, Toyota has been the best of all of them. The Hondas may handle better, and look sleeker, but you can't beat the Toyota Camrys for dependability, comfort. and reliability.

And with the new line of SUV,s Toyota just introduced, they are already out-selling Ford and Chevy in that market. If I was going to buy an SUV, I think the Toyota Hilander would be my first choice. Compare it to the Ford Explorer in quality and price, and you will see why.

Strength:

Extremely reliable.
Attractive in a boring way.
Extremely good gas mileage. The 4 cylinder will do 35 mpg on the highway.
Good resale value.
Performs perfectly in every way.

Weakness:

Somewhat boring styling.
Bumper color doesn't match the body color perfectly.

I bought a 1997 Camry LE when it had 27,000 miles on it to replace an awful Chrysler product. I drove it until it had 100,000 miles on it. The cost difference was $5500. The car never needed a repair. I replaced it with a 2001 LE that now has 17000 miles on it. It is performing perfectly. these cars sost more than some other options, but they are much cheaper to keep running if you take care of them and change the oil.

Weakness:

seems to be a spasmodic grinding sound coming the engine everytime i start it. it might take a few times but its bearable if not embarrasing. i thought it was the starter but this is a common problem and it turnd out to be the flyweel. and the thing is just ugly!

this car has given me 93k faithful miles and it still runs like a dream!!! a 13 year old dream but a dream nonetheless, it doesn't rub u any wrong way or anything. i've only had one breakdown and that was electrical wich required a 8 dollar plug in to fix. i am now going to give it away to my brother in law who will give it to his daughter for high school.

Good power, very reliable, spacious and comfortable

Weakness:

Big and heavy

Great reliable car. Sufficient power and torque with 188hp and 209lbs respecitively. The Camry has a spacious interior and exceptional cargo space. The only real weaknesses I found with the car are that it is heavy and big. The car seems very hard to stop at times and it is hard to park in slimmer parking lots.

Strength:

I drove this car for over 3 years, putting about 40,000 miles on it, and it never broke down or stalled once. Very good AC, EXCELLENT GAS MILEAGE, up to 30mpg not including highway. It still had pretty good pick up when I was willing to almost floor it. The oil was changed basically every 3,000 miles and I had brakes replaced here and there. I love that if I forgot to turn the headlights off, they would go off the minute I opened my door, when the car was shut off. No dead batteries there.

Weakness:

I did have to have the starter replaced, but it wasn't very expensive. Being a teenager, I think I blew some of the speakers, and in the winter at the age of 10 the power door locks were very fickle. The rust was very noticeable on three spots on the roof, and the hood was definitely starting to peel, but I heard there was a problem with the paint, on the sparkly blue.

It was my mom's car, and I received it in exchange for a family member's very ugly '92 Plymouth Acclaim I bought for $1,000. I loved it, power locks, door, windows...It survived a near drowning in a flood, after some electrical repairs, and 3 accidents, 2 minor, one where the door was replaced. I just sold it for $1,000 but only because it was a friend. It was worth about $2,000, more if the paint was not in such terrible condition. I would have gladly gotten a 2001 Camry, but they run around $25,000 and I can't afford that, plus the look has become that of a car that someone much older should drive.

My father owned a 1990 Carolla, with no power anything. It was a lot lighter to drive and he took better care of it than my mom did of her Camry. I just got a new 2001 Nissan Altima GXE lImited Edition, which I LOVE. While I had a great emotional attatchment to my Camry and would recommend a Toyota any day, I could never go back to driving an old car. I really do miss that feature with the headlights, I think my Altima does it, but not immediately. I also miss the power seatbelt, which forced my front passenger to wear one.

Reliable, built toyota quality. everything kept on working no matter what. Buy one car and buy it right, buy a toyota camry.

Weakness:

Base 4 cyl engine is underpowered, only 115HP in the 91 Camry, 136 in 2000 Camry.

The car gave me nothing less then 110% everytime I start it up, even with my abusive driving. My friends tells me that only thing that will put up with me aside my parents is my 91 camry, now with 180k on the original engine. I love this car, we have been though alot. this car has been though 10 New England winters and still drives strong, that says somthing about my camry. The car impressed my family so much that we brought another brand new 2000 camry and so far, that car is also nothing short of a dream. I can already tell that both cars are gonna be with us a a very long time.
