Strength:

Excellent fuel economy, reasonable engine power, very nice clutch/tranny (manual). Cute, too.

Weakness:

I've had to have some minor fit/finish items repaired on the interior. Nothing serious or mechanical - just the kind of niggly things that crop up with a total redesign.

I'm very pleased with this car. It's much more spacious than it looks (and it doesn't look *that* small) and has a decent amount of power for the size of the engine. The gear ratios are good (5-speed manual tranny), and the clutch has a very nice feel to it. I get about 36 mpg in mixed driving and 42 mpg in highway-only driving, so I'm very pleased with that. My Corolla is the base model (no options), and I'm pleased with the selection of equipment that's considered standard.

Strength:

none it is a lemon

Weakness:

gas milage, wind noise, rotten eggs smell

It is the worst car I've ever had gas milage is not even close to advertised. I drive my corola on a highway just below speed limit it burns about 9.5litres per 100km. Dealer claims 5.8l/100km. When I called and Complained they told me that there is nothing they can do - {good support isn't?) Wind noise is anoing and driwing worse than average. It stinks like rotten eggs when running dealer says it is normal and blames the gas station to bad that Petro Canada and Esso don't know what Toyota blames them with. I will never buy toyota product again it is ower advertised

Strength:

Body and chasis integrity despite salty winters. Interior still intact, no cracks or rips from time. Engine still smooth and quite.Manual transmission and shifter are excellent. Clutch is still original, hard to believe, although it slips and chatters when the car is started cold in the morning for 5-10 minutes.

Weakness:

The seats get unconfortable on long rides. The windshield developed a type of speckles all over it, almost like sandblasting. Oil consumption started at around 130,000.

I Purchased this vehicle primarily for commuting back & forth to work, 150 miles round trip. I bought new in 1995 an still drive it. The engine is the 1.8 Liter, 5 Sp. Man. Initially, although I praised this car for its quality and workmanship,i.e great shifter, switches, firm seats, the dash was impeccable at the time, the handling was a little on the soft side but very predictable. The previous car I had was a 91 VW Jetta 5 sp. that instilled spirited driving. This car instead didn't as much. It wasn't until it started accumulating miles that I started to realize that this car's character came in the way of reliability. As of this writing, it has 156,000 miles and it stills starts up every morning. I've only changed the oil every 3500 miles and the battery once, and a timing belt at 85,000 for 150.00 at the dealer, the front brake pads once, and had the brake system fluid changed (bled through) like the VW's.When it come to driving in the snow, there is nothing like it, very stable and predictable. I've had Jeeps follow behind me on snow covered interstates. The only issue that is developing is oil consumption of 1 quart every 1000 miles. To me, this car has earned its respect for its longetivity and mechanical loyalty.

Reliability, gas mileage, handling, fun.

Weakness:

A/C quit within 4 years of purchase. Rust at point where rubber bumper attatches to wheel wells, all 4 corners, all Corollas do this. Thin front rotors prone to warping.

Amazing car. My 3rd Toyota at the time, have now had Celica (73), Tercel (82), and 3 Corollas (90, 92, 96) plus a 90 Prizm - identical in every way except body and interior style. Would buy another in a heartbeat. Very peppy 5-speed w/1.6 litre 4AEF engine, plenty of room (I'm 6'-0"), great trunk space, sips gas (consistent 34 MPG city/highway) very low maintenance - clutch at 145k was it aside from front rotors warping - 3 sets in 12 years. Brake line blew out from road debris at 192k, and with cracked windshield, 2 accidents, rust, parking brake cable shot, wife said "That dog don't hunt" and bought 96 5-speed Corolla. The thing just starts and goes every single day in any weather, particularly good driving in Upstate NY winters!

Strength:

Reliable. Great milage (approx 32-39 mpg) Jumps off the line. Corners fair/good (about the change that) Large interior for it's size

Weakness:

Interior is seperating Door handles all broke at some point. Can't race a Viper and win ;-) Stock 13" wheels are lame.

Overall, an excellent car. I love driving it, despite other reviews I've read, the acceleration is very good, I can beat most off the line, and maintain a very good speed. Handles quite well, and sports several nice "creature features" (AC, CD, Cruise, Tilt Steering wheel, etc) I've had the car for about two years, and very little has needed to be done. The radiator due to previous neglect, the clutch (at 163,000 hard miles) bulbs, a few belts/hoses, oil but nothing major. I personally think the styling is very attractive and sporty, wish it had a sunroof and spoiler, but... I'm about the upgrade the suspension to a sport package, which should compensate for most of the handling.

Long Life! Cars at 160,000 and still runs smooth! inexpesive to maintain, good built body. High quality interior, the inside of a 93 looks more stylish and more modern then some insides of 2003 model cars.

Weakness:

Head room (you loose 2 inches with electric sunroof) Very slow when you punch the gas (but its peppy) Small interior. Bad electrical system, primarily altenator on 93 model. Boring, dont buy this car if you want to be admired.

My corolla was the floor model from a toyota dealer in NY. It is the LE package, power everything, and an electric sunroof. I guess it was the cream of the crop in 1993 considering it was the first year of the new corolla generation. The car has had only once part replaced in 10 years, and that was the Altenator (1 part...replaced 3 times) This is no suprised Electrical was a problem in 93 models. Car is nice, pretty problem free. But its really slow, i have a 4-speed automatic. Its nice inside, but its also very boring, and not agressive. But thats a personal problem i suppose, considering not everyone wants that. The cars reliablity was amazing, never had to worry. Personally though i dont recommend this car, or any from 93-97. At this current time it would be a much wiser choice to buy a 99-2001 model. They are much more reliable and better quality for the $$.

everything about this car was beyond fantastic, good for car chases! Get up and go, racing, lite on her feet...dances and sings...

Weakness:

never had any problem except the pole...she was a goddess...

I called her Nixie. This car lived through being a groupie for Winter Reign, numerous trips to San Francisco (not so comfy to sleep in...), Tahoe, the beach, Renaissance Faires, all-nighters, over-use, Rocky Horror, my random thinking trips...hundreds of miles of being lost in cities I'd never been to before just to say I had been there... incense, long-distance driving games, and nothing was ever stolen out of it, even though I lived out of it's trunk, and travelled more than ught to be allowed by law......I believe they call it "urban camouflague"...and a ditch, but she didn't survive the pole...

Quite roomy, doesn't feel like a small car.

Weakness:

Noisy idling, vibrations in front because of engine mounts, the ride isn't as smooth as I thought

With only 700km on the car, I am noticing a vibration in the front when changing from 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears. The dealership told me that there is a problem with the engine mounts in these cars and Toyota is working on finding a solution, In the meantime, I have to put up with that annoying noise and vibration. Any comments?

reliable

Weakness:

- emission control devises (charcoal canister about $600 to replace)- despite using strictly branded gas, mostly Sunoco - brakes require a lot of attention and replacement - semi-major work about every 30,000 kms

Reliable but expensive to maintain, regarding items that should last longer. Despite following Toyota's maintenance schedule and having only 73,000 kms on the odometer, brakes and emission controls are very weak points with the car.
