Strength:

will last just about forever. loaded with great standard equipment such as CD and air. also has other good safety features.

Weakness:

NO ABS in the CE.

Because Toyota has the reputation it has and because it carry the #1 resale value, I purchased the Corolla CE; however, all Toyota's brochures, including for the Echo, offered an ABS option. Toyota would not install ABS in anything less than an LE on the Corolla and, likely, not on the Echo. ABS is viewed by me as a SAFETY choice, not a cosmetic choice and to only offer it to the wealthy is plain wrong. For this I am disappointed in Toyota - the company not the car.

Strength:

It keeps running and running, fit and finish better than some luxury cars.

Weakness:

Not enough power! paint on bumper faded and chips easily. Im trying to justify buying new car, very hard to do when this thing keeps running and running. No power windows, locks, or cruise control, cant even lock the glove compartment

I hated foreign cars untill i was suckered into drivin this car by a very attractive saleswoman. I have to admit it, this Corolla is the best thing ever made! Nothing kills it, i now have owned this car for almost 9 years and it has 200,000 miles on it and nothing has yet been replaced on the car other than alternator and average wear and tear.

Strength:

- smooth shifting w/ original clutch - great mpg - above average agility - simple, reliable design

Weakness:

- body rust (remove the black stripping from the doors, it collects water and rusts.) this was repared easily however - horrid speakers. as a teen driver, one needs noise. my cones are rotted and mostly just buzzzz. small and hard to get to as well

great overall car for a new driver. Great gas mileage, supprising pickup for a 1.6 V4, hugs the road rather well on high speed turns. mine has over 150k with no problems but a little body rust and bad speakers

Strength:

Durable engine (292,000kms and counting) Dependable Sporty looking Great on gas (@ .70/litre for 20 bucks I can go 500 kms or more)

Weakness:

Yucky burgundy interior body rust expensive import parts (brakes should have cost over $1200) small backseat and no back leg room

Reliable little car, she has quite a personality! It's got a sunroof that doesn't work, the passenger door light is always on (I need to glue a little piece of plastic onto the button), the emergency brake needs a new cable but she's wonderful. I park in the middle of a huge, wide open parking lot in the country with no shelter for it and every morning in -20 degree celsius weather all I have to do is pump the gas once and she starts up no problem. The body was fixed up before I got it so it looks nice on the outside. I've driven the crap out of this car and it refuses to break down! I've put 60,000 kms on it in the past 15 months had the oil changed, every 3000kms, and she's been wonderful! Unfortunately the guy who sold it to me is a bit of an a$$-hole so I had to get the brakes completely replaced. $1000 for front and back. OUCH! Things I've done to my car: new brakes - $900 new headlight and indicator bulb - $12 new exhaust front to back - $200-ish! new ball joint on front driver side - $300 and about to have the fuel filter replaced - $140 incl. labour and taxes from Toyota dealer. The tires have barely been worn in the past years. This is a great little car! However time is her worst enemy as the floor and wheel wells are beginning to rust out so driving in the rain is always an adventure!

Model Reviewed: Corolla LE

Strength:

Improved design, better than older TOYOTA models (although it is a matter of taste, it was not until this new design (interior and exterior) that convinced me to lease a TOYOTA instead of the New CIVIC or Ford Focus). The Focus is roomier and uses space better. Automatic transmission drives better than FOCUS and comparable if not better than MINI Cooper.

Weakness:

Engine may be a little too loud. Engine could use a little more power. Sound system is picky and sensitive and the so-called "deluxe" sound system could use a few more watts for better sound. CD player does not work AT ALL with average quality/proced CD-R (burnt CD's). I went to the dealer and tried different burnt CD's on different Corollas and the sound system was poor.

Great improvements on previous model. Drives very well for a car in this price range. More room in the interior. Sound system needs a little improvement, 6 speaker does not make much of a difference compared to 4 speakers. Overall: Good, improved.

Strength:

Body redesign is sharp.. does not look like your typical Corolla of the past. Most people do NOT guess it is a Corolla. Charcoal Mist Metallic is a classy color. Drives comfortably, plenty of room in the back, good trunk space, sporty ..

Weakness:

Headrests are a little too high. I drive with my seat set back a bit from the wheel, and I have to lean forward to see well when making right turns (door frame in the way). Factory forgot to install the security system indicator light which I have to have installed. Rear view mirror seems a little narrow to me. Factory speakers are horrible as with most factory stereo speakers. Slight rattle noise on drivers side dash.

I just purchased the new Corolla on the very hard to get "S" model with spoiler, alloys, and moonroof. I had a great buying experience through the Fleet Manager at Tempe Toyota. So far, I love the car.. it resembles a Camry but is not as wide and bulky, and it drives very comfortably for a car in this class. I'm sure it will prove to be reliable as other Toyotas, and it has the sporty look as a plus.

Strength:

The engine is something special. It was specially ordered from the factory and has been the beast of all corolla's since.

Weakness:

ABS light turns on when really hot or really cold.

This is the best car I have ever owned. It has the best record on everything. The dial just turned 170,000 and everything is still original. Only brakes and tires have been replaced. In its hay-day it beat Type-r's.

Strength:

-Reliable. -Good power, very 'revvy' engine compared to the 1996. -Pretty well built, at least mine is. -Decent gas milage when not driving it like a maniac.

Weakness:

Just a few, but they are all kind of lame criticizms. -No clock...in my car, i have no idea why. -The trunk does not oopen from the inside. -Weak stock headlights, replacing the bulbs made them about 2 times brighter. -Poor audio system. -No tachometer. -Hard to find aftermarket upgrades, and the whole idea of how 'gay' modifying a corolla is.

So far this has been a great car! Even though the specs show that it only has a 10 hp advantage over the 1996 model, to me it doesnt seem so as this car is definately a WHOLE lot faster than my moms 1996, on that car, you floor it, the engine starts screaming yet you still dont go anywhere, while on the 1999 model, the engine still screams but the next thing you realize is that youre going 30mph over the speed limit... It handles high speeds pretty well too, no more steering wheel shaking all over the place on the freeway. Whoever says that driving this car is like driving a boat, try an accord or a camry, now those are boats! The only big complint i have about this car is the interior color, light brown just doesnt look good...

Strength:

Good mileage; so far no serious problems

Weakness:

No leg room front or back; trunk hinges intrude into storage space.

Overall, I find the car acceptable. However, there have been problems; some mechanical and some fit and finish. All problems were covered by warranty: 1. replace malfunctioning rear window defogger switch. 2. replace ill-filling front seat covers 3. replace color mismatched handbrake handle 4. replace rusty jack 5. replace antenna assembly (exterior plastic trim split) 6. replace driver side door panel because of well known glue issue. 7. replace failed driver side manual window crank mechanism. 8. replace driver seatbelt assembly after well known sensor failure. 9. replace plastic fittings in front door panels because of rattles. This is the first Toyota I've had with so many replacement parts required.
