Strength:

- great color gold available - antenna - seats fold back

Weakness:

- moonroof came loose - seats get uncomfortable after a long ride - overheats - brake fluid leaks - oil leaks - head gaskets need to be frequently replaced - dashboard cracks when exposed to sunlight - bad airco - weak horn

The Toyota Corolla has become a common car in the US, partially due to the good reputation that this model has built up. My SR-5 was very reliable, even for its high mileage (around 170k mi). I did need to change the head and radiator, and Toyota claimed that their warranty didn''t cover this anymore. Poor service! After an accident, the battery fell into the fan of the radiator, splattering battery acid all over the engine lock and the oil pan started leaking after driving over a speed bump a little too fast. I learned my lesson: I will not buy a sports car again.

Strength:

- Light body - Nice steering wheel - Silky smooth engine & tranny - Easily kills Lancers (even the dumb OZ "Rally Ed" LOL) I''ll get the EVO ;)

Weakness:

- Stupid 110mph speed limiter chip - Factory suspension too soft (even for an S model)

This is a follow up review 13 months ago. The car is great. It now has 11,400 miles. The engine just gets better and better. I now have an intake and exhaust system. The power if very good. I drove it to Vegas last summer in the 100 degree temperature, with 5 people, AC full blast, going 80mph... and still had power at the push of the pedal. I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil... it runs BETTER than brand new. I won''t trick out this engine, but several years down the road, I''ll toss in a 2zzge engine & 6spd tranny (2000 Celica GTS engine and tranny) and hunt bigger fish. Currently, V6 Mustangs are a JOKE... I eat them up all the time. Corolla eating up a Mustang... embarassing eh?

Strength:

Engine Torque/Power - Build Quality, both externally and internally- Ride Quality - Gas Consumption

Weakness:

Toyota Factory 14" tires are less responsive compared to other factory tires provided by other car manufactorers - Light Weight is a draw back at higher speeds - ABS only offered on the top LE model as an option - Leg room in the Rear is small

Excellent overall. Gas consumption is very close to factory specifications - Torque is readily available from stop to go, but starts to diminish after 120 Km/h - is less sturdy at speeds passed around 120 to 130 Km/h depending on the wind - Ride is confortable if driven normally, not aggresively Nothing has broken yet and I drive the car very aggresively - It caused no injuries to me after being rear ended at about 50 Km/h - I would buy this car without doubt over its other main competitors, the Honda Civic and Nissian Sentra.

I love this car. I had a 1990 Corolla, it was very dependable, I never had any problems out of it. I would still have the 1990 if I hadn''t been in an accident in which my car was totaled. I got a Nissan Stanza, that was the worst decision of my life. Now I am back in a Corolla and I couldn''t be happier!!

Nice looking car - good on gas mileage.

Weakness:

Clutch has been blend - before it hit 16m miles and needs to be done again. Grinding in the front end.

The car was great when I first bought it. Five months later it started making a grinding noise in the front end. For six months they could not figure it out, they finally figured out it was the differential. Now they won''t fix it because they say it is normal for manual Corrola''s to make a grinding noise when you turn. If anyone else has this problem please email me and let me know - I would really like to know if this is a common problem. zanderhydee@msn.com

Strength:

Corolla being the most reliable mass car model in the world. Hella cheap. Bigger interior and trunk space. Less interior noise. Excellent residual value. More comfortable seats finally!!!

Weakness:

Interior quality went down (hmm... similar to US brands now) but to keep the low price after all these years is still amazing. If you think about Altima''''s interior quality which is comparable... Would have been 5 stars if it weren''''t for the existence of Hyundai and their improved QA.

It''''s much better than the previous model year but interior quality went down a lot since 5 years ago. Rough plastic molding and flimsy buttons/switches. The shift''''s long throw is also annoying though the engine has quite a bit of pull and the overall driving experience is a good. The suspension is too soft, just like the Focus. It feels like you''''re riding a boat. Comparing the new Corolla with current Civic shows you that you get what you pay for. The Civic being slightly more expensive but has better interior and much better handling. Compared to the Ford Focus, the Corolla is very comparable but given the reliability rating of the Toyota, you''''d get better resale value. Regardless, if I''''m shopping for anything below $17K, I''''d check out Korean models too. In fact, the 2003 Tiburon and Elantra might just be as good as their Japanese rivals.

Unbelievably reliable. Changed the alternator at 30K miles and that has been it. I''ve driven the dog out of this car for 7 1/2 years and put 145,000 miles on it and it still runs great and uses very little oil.
