Strength:
durable light and great MPG (32-38) origonal clutch
Weakness:
radiator and alternator, small trunk to but hey its a small car i own a 1988 chevrolet nova which is a rebadged corolla. The couple of things that have gone out on the car have been the alternator, radiator, and the radio. the exhaust valve on the #3 cylinder burned once and i having 3 cylinders on a freeway to the repair shop isn''t fun. Othewise its been a great first car for me. Its a manual which gives it decent acceleration. I also have installed my new cd player, speakers, amplifier, and subwoofer. This was very easy due to the sizes of al the spots. I wish i could fold the back seat down to listen to my subs some more but its still loud enough. If you use nuvinyl on the dash/interior you will keep it looking brand new. I have kept mine in near perfect condition since i''ve gotten it from my parents. Strength:
-EXTREME RELIABILITY -Very comfortable -Good handling -Not very expensive -Just the right size
Weakness:
-Door Locks -Could use a bit more power -Boring if u need something more than a commuter This car is rock solid, EXTREMELY reliable. I bought this car with a salvaged title, i has been hit pretty hard into the rear of the right side, yet it drives perfectly and ive never heard so much as a squak from it. The only thing i had a problem with was the AC, which went dead, but even that was sort of my fault. Similar Products Used: Civic (rip off), Escort (overall crappiness) |

Weakness:
not much room in backseat I''ve had my 01 LE for 10 months now - I am very happy with the car - great gas mileage, am actually getting a little over 30 MPG in the city with my 4-speed auto - the car has no squeaks or rattles - the ride is as smooth and as quiet as the day I got it - very pleased with the interior and layout of the dash - love the storage areas - headlights are good and strong - no complaints at all - I think it is very good-looking too even though others characterize it as plain Similar Products Used: honda civic - good car but the corolla is much nicer - it''s like a "baby Camry" |

Strength:
Good mileage, although not as good as stated, especially for a manual transmission.
Weakness:
Not reliable or dependable, from my experience. Extremely light car, I keep 2-4 20lb. bags of cat litter in the trunk to add weight in the winter I was extremely pleased with my purchase, probably more so than I should have been because the corolla was my first new car puchase. I did all the research of comparable cars, test drove several different makes of vehicles, dealt with the sales people (a feat in itself) etc, etc.. And because I felt I had done everything right and made the best possible/ responsible choice in purchasing a new vehicle,I splurged a little by adding a spoiler and sporty wheels. But then, by no fault of my own, I was rear-ended. I took the car to the dealership where I made the purchase to have the repairs completed. When the trunk and bumper were being replaced the spoiler was removed and apparently set on the curved ends, thus scraping off the paint, whe I questioned the chipped paint, I was given a small plastic bottle w/ brush containing matching paint. I didn''t complain, I was just happy to have my car back. A week or so later, after it had rained I went into the trunk and found that the trunk was all wet. I took it back to the dealership, they slapped some silicone on it and sent me on my way. The leak was still there. Needless to say, I took it to a mechanic friend and finally had it repaired correctly. This past weekend I was driving home from visiting a friend and the check engine light came on. At first I thought it may be just a periodic maintenance reminder. I pulled over shut off the car and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. While diong this I read through owners manual. It said that if the check engine light is on, to go to a Toyota dealer as soon as possible. I did, paid for the diagnostic test, the technician said it was fine and off I went. Well, within 10 miles of leaving the dealer, the check engine light came back on. I made my way home, and Monday morning took it to the dealership where I bought the car. I told them what had happened, showed them the receipt; they said they had to charge me again for another diagnostic test. After complaining, I said fine. It turns out one of the fuel injectors went bad. Doesn''t sound unreasonable... the car is, after all, 3yrs. and 4mths. old, right? WRONG, I don''t even have 26K on the car. I am so thoroughly disappointed with both the car and the dealership, that I''m getting rid of the car and will never own a Toyota again. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic, Hundyai Elantra, Nissan |

Corolla dx 4dr
Strength:
Incredable gas milage (30-35 street/highway)for a 11 yr old car. Runs like a clock. Engine purrs even at 75-80 mph (oh,yes). Good to go for any length of trip in any weather condition. A/C could still give you frostbite in the middle of August. Interior holding up very well. I was also rear ended by someone driving a caviler stationwagon at 45mph (I was stopped). I was shot down the highway by the force of the impact (didn''t have my foot on the brake fortunately). Not a dent on my car, except for the imprint of her licence plate in that black hard rubber bumper. Couldn''t say the same about her car either. Takes a pounding and keeps on ticking! I''d reccomend any corolla with less than 100,000 miles to anyone who needs a reliable car.
Weakness:
Not to be negitive but: The alternator did quit on me. Apperantly that was the 2nd alternator in that car too. You can feel the wind blowing the car around on the highway sometimes. It can be disconcerting. Stereo system does suck and is difficult to improve. Had to replace most of the exhaust system. Fortuneatly not as expensive as some forigen exhausts I''ve seen (2nd time that was replaced too). Annoying and mysterious leak in the trunk every time it rained. Turned out to be the from the rear brakelight fixture. Made for a considerable mildew smell until it was found. Finally, and most noticable, is signifigant sun damage to the paint on hood/roof/trunk. Original red had faded to a college football orange color. I''ve seen other corollas with the exact same defect. I guess that''s easily fixable. Also, compared to other cars, there seems to alot of road noise at highway speeds. I guess a V6 and bigger tires would help. If you could put up with these minor issues, you will love this car. An excellent and relaible car. I have lived in the central and northern parts of New York (winters and all)and I''ve had the car for three years. I''m very happy with my car. I have put 33000 miles on it (up to 94000). Most serious repair needed was replacing the alternator. Apperantly it is a common problem with this model. Corolla LE
Strength:
In general, its a lot of car for the money. It think its the best in its "class". Lately, the auto reviewers have not been giving it the super credit that it really deserves. They seem to downrate its "looks". I''m not interested in "looks". I want "reliability" in a car, and I got it. In 1968, I bought the "ugliest" car in the whole world, the "Volswagon Beetle". And, I simply bought it because I had known the car to be most reliable, and it certainly was.It had been the most reliable car, and only to be "surpassed" by the Corolla. My new corolla''s got 4000 miles on it and its only 8 months old.Since I''m retired now, this one will probably outlive me since I''m 70 years old. What a happy thought..... I want to emphasize again, that in its "class", the Corolla is the best (for me). There are certainly others that are super great...."lexus", "Acura" "Camry", "Avalon, and others, but are much more expensive."
Weakness:
Okay....I''m glad that they put 14" tires on the new Corolla, because the previous ones had 13" tires, and I had to replace them at about every 25000 miles or so.Not too bad. I think I had to put in about three mufflers in those ten years. Too much for me, but acceptable considering... I don''t consider this car to have any "weaknesses" so to speak...But, then again, I''m not "hard" on a car. If I gave the car to my son-in-law Jim, it would have surely died a "quick death" prematurely. In 1990, I purchased two (2) Corolla''s. One for me, and one for my wife. There was never any problem with these cars, except, replacing worn tires, battery, muffler, etc. But, never any major problems at all. After ten years, I sold my Corolla for $3,500. It had 78,000 miles on it, and was in great condition. The "Blue book" said it was worth %2,500, but the condition was so great that I got my price. And, the person buying my car, got what he paid for...."A great car, and in great condition". So, the resale value was super. As for the other Corolla, my daughter now has it, and its still going strong, and she really doesn''t take care of it like I did mine. Similar Products Used: As I said previously, the 1968 Volks Beetle was great, but only to be outdone by the super great Corolla. |

Feels weak when more than two people and going on highway. And who placed the sun visor so close to rear view mirror that it hits rear view mirror when you pull it down !!! Hello someone listen to that!!! Inner mouldings fell off one replaced by dealer. I bought this car brand new and havn''t had many problems with the car. I like the new face of the car and the handling etc. It''s smooth and nice to drive and Overall dependable. I have been on a 4500 mile trip in the car no problem. with the car. Runs nice and good. Strength:
Dependability, gas milage, and low cost for repairs...also resale is good.
Weakness:
Acceleration can be good and bad (120hp isnt too great), interior space, and it is a light car (very noticalbe on the highway). A good overall car. Great dependability and gas milage. Interior space is small but adaquate. Performace wise the corolla can take off fast and slow depending on how you hit the petal. The manual corolla is much faster. For style, modify the caps with rims or stylish caps. Add a body kit to make it sportable...you can make this simple looking car look very nice a turn some heads. Strength:
Quality, value, good power/gas mileage.
Weakness:
Tight leg room, seats could be more comfortable, automatic headlight system is a pain (at least for me). This is an update from my 11/23/00 review. The car still performs well with no problems. I am now at 28,000 miles and gas mileage hasn''t changed. However, the lack of leg room for the driver is starting to get to me. I am now looking to get another car with more room. The only other thing that bothers me is the automatic headlight system. I suppose for alot of people it''s a nice convenience, not having to worry about putting on the headlights when it gets dark. For me though, I like being able to put them on when I want and having the option to just have my parking lights on when the engine is running. I can''t do that with this car. Other than those two things, the car is great. I''m giving the car an overall rating of 3 stars not because it''s a bad car but because these two features are enough of an annoyance for me that I would not buy another one and I need to find something that satifies my needs better. I am selling the Corolla if anyone is interested. E-mail me (tweconomos@excite.com) and we''ll talk. I have already started looking at other vehicles.
