Strength:

nimble, long lasting, all around car for the price,no engine problems, good trunk room, and is very is to dress up.

Weakness:

rear leg room, need MORE POWER, not enough deading sound carpet, needs a wider base.

I appove of this car, I've turned mine into a rice rocket look with big spoiler and everything,It looks like a rice rocket but all it does is cook rice.As long as you check and change regular maintance parts and fluids it will run forever.Interior stays brand new as long as you keep it clean. My car drives like brand new and looks brand new.Hope the 2001 corolla will have a V-Tech engine with more power and able to modify the engine more.

Strength:

RELIABLE, economical, great on gas, sporty looking, safe, easy to drive, control pannel easy to reach and use, comfortable for driver and front passenger. What can I say, its got "spunk" and thats why I named mine Spunky after driving it for the first time. :)

Weakness:

Replaced muffler - 60k miles (done by first owner).
Struts/and a CV boot at 110k miles (done by me and I consider it a natural repair given the miles/age of the car. These parts do wear unless you drive on glass smooth roads!
Interior lights dim a bit when you turn on the headlights (MINOR)
AC is out of coolant or it may be broken but I like my windows down so I wont worry about it. Fan still works and that's what I use.
Paint was great until I bought the car and had to leave it out in the elements, then the roof's clear coat began peeling. For $30 in paint and primer I fixed it myself. People still think the car is new!
Interior is comfortable for 2 people. Back seat is tight, esp if you are tall like me and push the front seats back.

I wish wish wish i could purchase this car brand new. Why? Because I KNOW that I would have bought myself years of reliability and repair-free service. Also it saves me tons on gas and insurance is cheap too. I wanted something that looked sporty, but that would not be considered a sports car by insurance standards, thus, keeping my premium low - and I found it in this car. Very safe, handles excellent on all conditions, easy to drive making it great for beginners and the advanced driver alike. Oh and most important - it fits in compact parking stalls!

I haven't used a similar car, however, 2 friends of mine both drive the same corolla car like me and have had excellent service from it. Very little repairs compared to years and thousands of miles of flawless service!

Strength:

Great gas mileage, average 35 on highway, 30 in town. Peppy 1.8 combined with the 4 speed ECT. Very good brakes for non ABS. Handles to a similar equipped Celica (with wide 60 tires of course). 90k and still ticking. Safety, safety, the rear child door locks are a blessing with a 2.5 year old, very good dealer, quick buy time, hope to experience again with next new truck. Its a Toyota

Weakness:

Clear plastic on clock and guages is clouding, do not ever clean with anything but damp rag (water). This will happen with any armour all or similar product, possibly my mistake.
Buy replacement toyota parts, my alternator went out and I put a cheaper one on it and it went back 3 times to be fixed before the napa guy went and got one at toyota and ate the cost. Same with the starter. AC delco is the only aftermarket parts I would buy besides toyota. Zero back seat room, kid friendly. 195/60 series is a much better and cheaper replacement tire for the odd size 185/65 and performance is noticably better. I have Toyo spectrum, excellent quality tires.

I paid 15,5k for this one. A little steep, it has everything but cruise and power seats and moonroof. Definitely need cruise on a long trip, front seat are comfortable for about 2 hours, but after that, your right knee gets locked, especially for anyone over 5,10. This car has been very reliable. It hit 87k and had to go thru 3 months of alternator/starter replacement, it pays to get quality parts, not aftermarket cheap crap. Replaced timing belt at 70k. Right now it is doing great. This car has excellent resale value and decent trade in value. Plan on going with a truck(ext. cab Chevy or Toyota, need something much bigger and hauling ability, NV is truck country. Ironic with rising gas prices. This is the 2nd toyota I have owned, 81 celica. That was a very good car for its time. You cannot go wrong with Toyota corolla.

Strength:

Surprisingly high horsepower and good acceleration. Never failed to start in winter, even when I drove with temperatures at least 20 below. Good cargo room. Fuel econ is great. Controls and instruments clear and usually very logical. Handles very well. I have never felt unsteady on the road in spite of truly atrocious blizzards, ice, and steep hills (that rise more than 7 stories in a single city block) where I drive. Good resale value shall you decide to sell it (I don't). Good solid car that I would definitely recommend.

Weakness:

Rear seat legroom is just adequate (although what do you expect from any car this size). Car has a CD changer even though it has no CD player. Cupholders appear frail. Styling is not the greatest. These are not major probs.

Good car.

Ford Escort - not worth it. By the 40,000 mile, this car had quite a few parts replaced. And though I haven't driven the new Focus, I've heard that a recall has just already been issued - not a good sign.

Strength:

This car is extremely reliable and dependable. It is very easy to drive
around town, park and not have to worry about it not starting or giving
you ANY trouble.I would say the Corolla is THE perfect compact car.

Weakness:

The power steering is over-assisted;it is far too light.
The engine can use more pep(100 hp in 1997).I think in 1998 the engine
was increased to 125hp.
Other than that,there are none.

I paid about $19,000 Canadian for it.It is an excellent car for the money.
It really has no weaknesses ,only strengths.
Toyota build quality and reliability is second to none.I think that between my family and myself we must have owned about 9 Toyotas by now
over the last 20 years.I have never heard a complaint from anyone about
any car.Toyota IS that good.
I would obviously highly recommend this car.

Strength:

The best things in my mind are the engine build quality, interior design, and overall reliability.

Weakness:

This car could use more power, but I guess it's not the purpose of this car to be a rice rocket. Plus the exterior styling is kind of bland, and the suspension allows the car to roll over like a two dollar hooker.

I paid $7000 Canadian, or $4700 US. I would really recommend it for the price since it'll get you everywhere you want to go. Plus the car is cheap enough that you don't have to be super paranoid about every little nick, and you can actually enjoy using your car for whatever you want to.

Strength:

Quality materials and assembly, very very reliable, very good engine,
quiet interior.Good size of trunk.Excellent fuel economy.

Weakness:

Needs more legroom in the back ( longer wheelbase )
Suspension is way too soft, the car is affected at highway speed by side winds more than other similar cars.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good reliable car with excellent fuel economy, and to people who don't like to fix their cars.
I had this one for two years and absolutely not even a tiny problem, it still drives and feels solid like new after 42000km.
Toyota should improve the suspension and lenghten the wheelbase, other than
that this is a very good car.

Toyota's have never been known for their paint. WIthin 4 years, car paint began to show age and lose shine.

Great Car. has 135,000 miles and runs like new. Trade in value also excellant. This car has another 100k left.

Model Reviewed: Corolla DX, 5 speed manual

Strength:

RELIABILITY, RELIABILITY, RELIABILITY. Great fuel mileage. Smooth engine.

Weakness:

Crash worthiness compared to today's standard (watch out for the idiots driving the SUV's).

I bought this car new in 1989 and now it has 240,000 miles and still runs very well. In all of the miles, I have not had one major engine repair. I change the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles and I never drive it agressively unless absoulutely necessary to enter an interstate. The largest maintenance expenditure has been a recent new clutch (the first replacement (yes, my ORIGINAL clutch lasted 220,000 miles)).

Maintenance problems (very few)
* I have had the exhaust system replaced 2 times.

* There is a minor electrical problem with the wipers. When the wiper control is selected to the off position while the wipers are in the up traveling stroke, they will stop in that position and not retract into their "stored position". However, if you select off on the down stroke, they will return to the proper "stored" position. This, of course, is minor. I haven't even attempted to have it fixed.

* I have replaced the climate controll fan switch 3 times. They seem to like to get a short an burn out. Has anyone else had this problem?

No, the car is not a hot rod. You cannot really expect it to be for this class. Although, the 1.6l 16 valve engine is strong enough to safely accelerate you in an out of traffic. This car is not a slalom machine either but even though handling is a bit sloppy in emergency avoidance manuevers, it is safe, predictable, and controllable.

I would easily buy a new Corolla if I were in the market for this class of car. My next car, Audi A4 (I hope).
