Strength:

Reliability. Good Performance for a 1.6L. RWD. Economical

Weakness:

Automatic transmission sucks. It was knocking like hell while shifting. Bought a used for 250$ and changed it myself.

I paid 800$ for it and recommend it to anybody who wants a sporty and economical car.

Strength:

Lots of cargo room in the hatchback version, ice cold A/C, 240K miles and still going strong, been in an accident and is fine, minimal upkeep costs, proven reliability, great fuel economy.

Weakness:

The paint is oxydized, the cassette player and radio won't work, the drivers side door has to be opened from the outside, the trunk has a sticky lever in there, the rear seat room is mediocre, and it has probably fifty horsepower. But really, the car is 14 years old and been to hell and back! Some south korean cars won't last 5 years!

This is an oldy but a goody, one of those "beaters" that will get you through the next century. However, the 2000 Corollas are (from what I've seen and read) nothing to brag about in the styling, price and passenger space areas. They're still great cars though. I give the new ones a ***, and a ****

Gas milage, smooth drive, large trunk,

Weakness:

Not too much legroom in the back seat. Enough for kids, but some tall adults could use more room.

I love this car! Easy maintenance and great, smooth dirve! Extra features like cruise control, etc. are well worth the money. Incredible gas milage! This is my 2nd corolla.

Strength:

Zippy w/ AC off, utterly reliable way to get from point A to point B.
Manual transmission is easy to learn and master. Good all-around visibility. Refuses to break when given proper maintenance.

Weakness:

Trunk is too small. Seats only 3 comfortably.

I bought it in '97 with 113k miles. Since then, got the belts replaced at 120k, replaced the clutch, replaced the tires, replaced the struts, replaced the exhaust. Items needing replacement that were not normal wear and tear were the power lock switch ($5 at junkyard), sunroof belts ($500 - had to pay because the darn thing was stuck open!), and the AC ($500 including retrofit to new R114a cheaper and friendlier refrigerant). The engine runs like a dream though, and now that everything else is fixed, I can see this car going well into the 200k's. I can drive like a maniac at times, and this car doesn't even flinch, just takes it all and keeps on going.

Nothing similar used, but I can't imagine any other '89 car with 147k miles holding up to my driving style...

Strength:

Easy to park and manuever, good acceleration, great built little engine, better than average stock stereo system, handling is better than my new car, worry-free maintenance.

Weakness:

too small, although you really feel like you're using every horse of the 120HP and is suprising at times,it needs more power along with better tires in order for it to be a more fun and safer drive on the highway.

Well, I learned how to drive with the corrolla when i was 16 (4 years ago). The engine of this car would still exist if my mom never drove it on the highway a couple of days with barely any oil (oh well). Now that I have my new Z24, I acknowledge some differences between domestics and imports while respecting both. I would recommend this car to anyone who needs good transportation with excellent reliability (even through 7 Canadian winters or more). I considered buying the 2000 Corrolla but the Z looked better and had more power for the buck.

Strength:

smooth manual gearbox
reliable (so far no problems at all)
decent low-end torque
very smooth quiet ride, even at high speed
excellent gas mileage (38 MPG+ highway)
quality of manufacturing

Weakness:

too much body roll (soft suspension)
front tires slip a little bit
could use more high-end torque
seats are not comfortable on long trips

The Corolla is a very reliable economy car with a smooth ride and good gas mileage. I think it has one of the best manual shifters among economy cars. The Corolla is great for commuting and short trips.

The main drawbacks to this car are the bad seats and mediocre athletic performance. If you drive long distances or you like to drive aggressively, you may wish to look elsewhere.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Corrola LE

Strength:

The redesigned body style in much more appealing than the previous models.
The 120 hp engine provides a snappy feel and feels much faster than the
Honda Civic. Very sporty when equipped with the Touring Package in Le
model trim and the 5-speed manual trannsmission.

Weakness:

The car has a very softly sprung suspension which provides a uncomfortable
ride when ever there is a bumb in the road. Rear backseat leg room is
limited as long with headroom. I would not recomend sitting someone in the
back seat who is much older than 12 or 13. I also had some suspension
problems. Every time i would hit a bump the suspension would make a
squeaking sound. There are also a couple of rattles here and there, but
that is about all.

The car is very practical and good for a small family, or a teenager. The
car has sporty syling along with toyota reliability. It also holds very
good resale and will run for ever. It is also safe. It comes equipped with
dual front airbabs as well as driver and pasanger side impact airbags. It
has many nice features and emmenties for a compact car under 20,000
dollars. The car was stickered at $17,899 dollars but,i paid a little less
than that for it. If you by this car make sure that you get the LE with
the aluminum wheels, for the VE,and CE hubcaps are very non atractive.

Strength:

This car has been very dependable, all repairs have been minor on this vehicile. The acceleration isn't the best, but it is 11 yrs. old after all! Spacious trunk, comfortable seats on short to moderate trips.

Weakness:

There is one problem this car has had and it deals w/the clearcoat finish, after about 3 years it started peeling, and has been doing so ever since. I have not fix this because it was minor to me, but this is something that someone else would fix, and could cost around $500 or so to fix

All in all this has been an excellent car, living up to it's Toyota dependability. The cost of this car was around 10,000.00, and certainly got a good value for it. The 4-cyl. engine has lost some of it pick-up, but it is still able to get into traffic when needed. It keeps out road noises pretty well, and has been a very dependable car.
