Jetta Turbo
Strength:
Fast, great handling, looks, Reliable, Ammenities-Leather, AC, Sunroof, Power Options.
Weakness:
Ride kind of harsh at times, made me want to drive wayyy too fast with that turbo. Ok I've been reading these reviews and am completely surprised. I had my Jetta Turbo for 2 years and had only 2 problems. Passenger Window rolled down and would not roll up and a fuse blew out which caused the climate controls to not light up at night. That's it!!! both issues were fixed by VW without any questions. Superior customer service from the Service Department. I didn't really like the sales part of buying the car but everything else was perfect. I have since traded up to a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 V6 TRD,SR5 only because I like trucks and my wife has a new Xterra so I don't need the 4 doors anymore. |

Cute, cute cute! love my sunroof, seat warmers, big trunk, handling, stereo and sporty look.
Weakness:
small things seem to break often, the only good thing is that the warranty covers all costs.( A little worried about what will happen when warranty is expired) I love my jetta! I have owned 3 cars, all of which have been jetta's. Yes of corse I have had some problems, but truly nothing major. My new 2002 is my baby. The interior is comfortable, spacious and drives like a beamer. I love it the most becasue it looks good and I look good in it! I have had two problems so far, 1) Both front passenger windows fell and would not roll up. 2) Radio broke, and would not turn on. Both issues were easily solved, and I was offered a rental for my inconvenience. The other plus was that my warranty covered everything! Quality car. Durable. Cute shape. Easy to handle. Easy to clean. Good pick up. HUGE trunk. Held up decently in accident...however (see below):
Weakness:
roof slightly buckled on impact. Can be expensive to repair. Outer body wear and tear a bit much. My radio face was falling off. I loved my jetta...I bought it used at 33,300 and drove it to death. After two years, my navy blue baby had 67,700 miles on it. Sadly, I was in an accident last week and it was totaled. I will miss it very very much. I had no problems with it and would have loved to have bought another one. Too bad I can't afford it! Something to look forward to in later life! |

Strong engine, lots of features for little money.
Weakness:
Handling handling handling. It simply does not do what you want it to at any time. Also, RELIABILITY. Mine began backfiring at 4k miles (yes backfiring) and still did it when I sold it at 31k miles. The dealer could not fix the problem and after 5 attempts refused to hear the problem any longer. Also the interior fell apart. Cup holders broke, arm rest broke, center dashboard console came apart (around gear shifter). Sunroof emergency crank cover fell off because of broken clips. Windows quit working, wouldn't go up. SQUEAKS EVERYWHERE. Numerous engine problems. Defective tires replaced at 14k miles, wore out again at 25k. Paint is not durable, avoid any type of tar remover it eats the clear coat off in 2 seconds. I was happy when I sold the car at a significant loss. I was glad to be out of it. To begin, the car has the worst handling of anything I have ever driven. It does not want to go where the driver wants it to go. The car feels wobbly and sways alarmingly above 70 mph. In turns (even gradual turns) the body leans very badly. You have to constantly correct in any turn. The ride is floaty like a cloud, but hard impacts still come through and upset things (rattle rattle). In short it is the worst of all worlds. I never really felt in control of the car. The 1.8 liter turbo is an exciting engine. If you have to have it, I recommend getting it in the Passat. It was fun to rev, but proved to be very unreliable. The interior options are good but they are not assembled well. The car was literally falling apart when I got rid of it at 31,000 miles. Similar Products Used: Accord, Altima. |

Weakness:
O.K., the cup holder is a little on the goofy side, but hey, at least there is one and the steering wheel radio controls make up for it. Unreliable techs at some dealerships After 6 months, 3 states, and 3 dealerships, I still LOVE my German Baby ( or G.B. for short). For those of you looking to buy, do not let the reviews scare you. VW puts out a quality car in the jetta and stands by the product. For those of you having trouble with your car, consider changing dealerships. I purchased the car in early March w/ 269 miles on it, at 1600 miles the air conditioner went out... REPAIRS DONE ON CAR DUE TO POOR DEALER WORKMANSHIP... 1)ac cable, 2) 3 monsoon systems,3) computer system(fried by tech trying to reinstall radio #2, radio #1 took out ac due to poor installation),4) defrost not programmed after computer installation,5) obnoxious whistle sound coming from vents due to tech warping ac cowl and pollen filter box while trying to FIX ac,6)trim panel for around stereo-srcatched and replaced due to over zealous tech, and last, but not least, 1 Dave Matthews Band CD scratched because the idiot failed to eject it before removing radio #1. REPAIRS DONE ON CAR DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING...1) 2 spark plugs( If you have the engine malfunction light come on & the dealer says its due to your gas cap or spark plugs, make them hook it up to the computer... it is most likely due to a bad ignition coil)Engine malfunction light came on once while driving in mountains, took it to new dealer(moved to CA)they said the computer indicated 2 bad spark plugs, which they replaced, and by the way, did we know our monsoon system was not coded properly by New Orleans dealer(they took care of it and what a HUGE difference!)-they fixed the problem and told us to come back if the engine light came on again. It did, and it was the ignition coil, which had caused the spark plugs to fail the first time, but the computer did not pick up on it. Yes folks, only ONE bad part caused by the factory!! Bottom Line...You bought the car for a reason, it looks great, drives fantastic(love that turbo sound!), and you wanted quality. No matter what car you buy, it will have a few problems, even Mercedes, so get the kinks worked out and stand up for yourself with the dealer. If you are not satisfied with their response, contact vw customer care, I complained and got the $76.00 detail kit and my 5,000 mile service for free. I am not worried about future problems because I found a reliable dealer and the 2002 models come with a great warranty. The engineers and the service department. Overall...Volkswagen as a whole. My car has been nothing but one big nightmare. I have a car with an engine "supposedly" designed to burn a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. My trunk will not open unless I unlock all of the doors. I have wax leaking from beneath my doors, mold growing in my air conditioner, as well as a condensor unit and a mass airflow sensor that have already been replaced. My power windows do not work properly. They go up when I hit down and down when I hit up. Unfortunately, it is inconsistent and Volkswagen will not fix what they do not see. Now, when I lower my backseat my center seatbelt locks up. I have to take it into the dealership to have them release it in order to lift my seat back up. Apparently, this is not a safety issue (yeah right) and is not covered under warranty because my car is over 25000 miles. What the dealership had to say for Volkswagen: The engine for Volkswagen is desgined to burn .85 quarts of oil for every 1000 miles and the seat belt is designed to lock up everytime you lower the seat. Conclusion: Volkswagen needs to hire new engineers. Obviously, they do not know how to design cars. Similar Products Used: None and there never will be. |
