Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

I have had problems with my 02 Jetta as well, the engine is giving me problems. I brought it in numerous times and still there is problems with it. One point it wouldnt shift from 1st to 2nd, and the brakes would jerk. Now it leaks transmission fluid.

Strength:

Excellent options. More power then most in its class along with storage and leg room.

Weakness:

You have to take good care of it like any vehicle. And if you get one of the volkswagens with problems spend the extra time to research a machanic for vw's and troubleshot it your-self before you take it in.

I have a Jetta but also had a Golf that was the same year. I am very impressed with the quality in materials compared to honda, toyota and american cars. What I have noticed with some comments is that people dont take care of a car to appreciate it and keep it in great or good condition, then complain about it. I have had my share of problems and they all have been from buying a used jetta from a bad previous owner and dealership. Also dealerships are were a lot of blaim lies, which is my biggest complaint. My Jetta has engine problems that I cant afford to have bad machanics keep looking at with poor results. And it is difficult to make time to research one. In other words my experience with my volkswagen has impressed me because it will not die, it keeps going and going and going. Its options are awesome and reliable and eventually I will fix the problems myself. Like they say "if you want it done right you have to do it your-self". Best of luck and enjoy this great vehicle.

Weakness:

The tires. Way to soft for this car.

Love the car so far, but I have only had it for two weeks. You guys are all scarring me with your horror stories. It sounds like the dealers that you got these pcs. of crap form are the problem.

Strength:

Power(1.8T)-somehow people underestimate it. 31mpg and I can still smoke any stock Honda except the Prelude and the S2000.

Weakness:

No 6pd manual available for the 1.8T yet.

I love my VW Jetta. Honestly I am in love with it. I make up things to go do, just to drive it.

Strength:

Nice interior and smooth ride

Weakness:

Engine problems.

My first VW and my last. The car started acting up at 1300 miles, check engine light came on so I took it to the dealer. They said it was a misfire and reset the computer. At about 2200 miles it came on again. I took it to the dealer again and they said it was a misfire and they ordered some spark plugs for it. After the plug change 9500 miles guess what? Check engine light again and back to the dealership. They did a compression test and I had low compression on a couple cylinders. So they removed the head to find all sorts of carbon fouling on the valves and in the cylinders. The head was sent to a machine shop where it was reworked and pressure tested oh yeah and cleaned. I am still waiting to get it back from the dealership. I contacted VW America asking if I could get an extended warranty on the power train and they said get bent buddy.

Strength:

Didn't spend enough time with it yet.

Weakness:

They can't fix the brand new 1 week old car. My 2000 Kia Sephia (bought new) never have any problem. Imagine...

Don't buy it! The very first week, the abs brake light stays on an beeping. I took it back to the dealer, they spend two and a half weeks trying to fix it, but then broke my ESR button (can't turn on or off). Then one day after I have the car back, the abs and brake light back on. Take it back to the dealer, and they can't fix it. Lemon car????

Nice, smooth ride. Safest compact. Standard options are 2nd to only Subaru cars.

Weakness:

Had the one minor problem but got to drive the W8 instead so who really lost on that deal.

First of all, let me say that I got the car at 13,666 brand new cause I had a connection at the dealership. Regardless of problems I want anyone to find me a better car at that price. Surprised to hear about all these bad reviews. I have had my car for only 3 months and I had one problem thus far. I have an automatic (wife cant drive stick) and the car was having a hard time shifting up and down gears. Called dealership and told them about the problem. They said they would need to have the car brought in, so I had them book me an appointment the next day. Brought it in at 9am and they looked at it for a while and said that the transmission modulator was messed up. They said they would need 2-3 days to fix it. They have free rental car since i purchased car there (they gave me a Passat W8, yeahhhhh!!!!). Called me back in 3 days and said car is ready. Told them i wouldnt be able to come for another week cause of work (just wanted to keep driving the W8). They said ok and let me keep rental for a week longer. Long story short, they fixed the problem and there is nothing wrong with it right now. I really wanted the GLI but i dont have that sort of cash so I opted for the GL model. Hopefully I will land a good paying job w/i 3 years and i can trade-in before value drops too much.

Absolutely NONE. This car is a huge waste of money, and is HIGHLY unreliable

Weakness:

Much like the warranty, Id say the weaknesses are "Bumper to Bumper"

I cant even be bothered going into all of the problems....but they are the same as everyone else: -Window regulator (5 times) -Door good -O2 Sensor -Mass Air Flow Sensor -Replaced Catalytic COnverter (Because of faulty O2 sensor) -Broken moon roof -Broken clip on arm rest -floor mat clips that fall off -Car rolls back when taken out of park and put into drive -Power locks broke -Key broke and had to be fixed

i've had my avenger for about four years now and i haven't had any major repairs yet(knock on wood)however i have had some oil leaks, my door latch broke on the passenger side, which i heard was a common problem, also while driving i hear a rattling sound in the dash which no one can figure out. other than that i think it's a fairly decent car. it has a sharp look, atleast i think it does, looks like a speeder, is it? not!!!!!!!!
