Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

cupholders!! But you be having to much fun driving to be drinking.

Traded in 2001 GLS 2.0 after 7 months of use not impressed with handling and engine performance. Had check engine light recall fixed by dealer. Also used 2 litres of oil between first and second change. Now for the good part, the new VR6 200hp with 6 speed transmisson are incredible. Traded in 2001 2.0 GLS for this 200HP 6 speed RED ROCKET with sport supension, stability control program and great looking 17 inch wheels and low profile tires. The interior with leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, Recaro style seats and easier to keep clean material are great. The 2001 GLS interior was a lint magnet. Do yourself a favor drive the other jetta's then drive the new GLI it's a totally different car, you will find that the extra money is worth it.

See above... Road noise Many service problems

I hate my Jetta and VW's service. My car is less than 3 years old and already I have had to replace 2 front tires b/c the dealer's service station didn't rotate them correctly at my service intervals, had to replace the rear rotors, my passenger side mirror casing cracked 6 mos after purchase but they refused to cover it under the warranty. I've most recently been told that they will not perform the oxygen sensor recall unless I spend $300 to replace my airflow sensors as well. VW customer care won't cover it under a "goodwill policy" b/c it is "too old" according to them. I have spent so much money on this car, it is ridiculous. Also, the car is very loud on the highway when going over 55 mph. The road noise is quite bothersome and makes it hard to converse or listen to music at a reasonable volume level. My husband owns a 97 Jetta and he, too, has had nothing but problems with this car. I highly recommend against buying a Jetta. Their service after the sale is awful. I will never purchase from Volkswagen again.

Strength:

1. Looks 2. Power 3. Comfort 4. Plenty of features (i.e. heated seats, traction control-ASR, AC, tape/cd player with a great sound system for stock, huge trunk with a power outlet etc...)

Weakness:

1. Cup Holders 2. Dealership service sucks (Mississauga Volkswagen-do not deal with them!!)... VW Canada better realize this soon. 3. Did I mention the dealership sucks???

Firstly, I don't know what everybody is talking about here. My Jetta is, far and away, the best vehicle I have ever driven in its class. It handles beautifully, has plenty of low end power and drives like a dream. Not to mention that it has all the features you could possibly want in a car at a very affordable price.

THE ENTIRE VEHICLE!!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

I purchased my 2001 Jetta on July 5th. On July 7th it was being towed into the dealership. "loose wires" they stated. My vehicle was returned to me on July 11th. On August 11th my car was towed back to VW with the same exact problem. Less than 1000 miles on the vehicle. It is now August 26th and I have not received my car back. I have made 3 car payments on the car and only had it in my hands for one full week.

quick car, unlimited possibilities for mods, awesome look, interior lights rule!

Weakness:

sport suspension isnt too great, change the factory air filter, airbox is nice and quiet but should be replaced by a cold air intake.

I have not had one problem with my car, the turbo picks up like a charm, i've made some aftermarket modifications, and i have one of the top racing cars in my circuit. My friend originally wanted to buy a BMW which he test drove in germany, but after driving my car he said it handled 10 times better and picked up quicker as well, he is now the owner of a 2003 1.8t, and 2003 is the last year they will be making the same 1.8t because it is too fast for emissions standards!

NOT SO MUCH!!

Weakness:

YOU NAME IT, THEY'VE GOT IT!!!

Well where do I begin?? Within 6 months my rear cup holder broke and had to be replaced. I had a problem where if I let my car get down to a 14 tank of gas, I would completely lose power (like I was just coasting) if I went over 50MPH. And the power would not kick back in until I was down to about 30MPH, which is big problem when you are on the interstate. I took it to the dealership for this, numerous times, and they said nothing was wrong. Then my glove compartment door hinge broke so it would not close, but that was repaired. Then I hapened to get a flat, and in the process of trying to change my tire realized I could not get my tire off because the locking lug nut stripped as soon as I touched it. The dealership said this was a problem and did replace all four. Then I had to spend $400 on 4 new tires because my dealership said whoever had done my last alignment had done it wrong and it made my tires cup and ruined them. WELL...I have never taken it anywhere else but my dealership for anything, especially alignments. Then my window on my front passenger side fell into my door and I had to duct tape it shut for 4 weeks until they could get the part in (which I called to see if the part was in because I was getting impatient and my dealership said it was never ordered for me and I would have to wait again). Then on top of everything while they were fixing my window they did an oil change without my approval, which they told me later that was illegal, but at least I didn't have to pay for that. Then within a week of getting my car back from the passenger repair my driver's window fell into my door. Now my car was recalled for the O2 sensor which was why I was losing power and it was replaced (twice), but my car is right now at the dealership getting looked at because I was driving down the highway going 60MPH when my car actually shut off. Luckily I was in the farthest right lane and could pull off easily but my car problems has now become a safety problem and I am worried about driving on the highway, which I have to do to go to college everyday. So my advise: IF YOU HAVE A VW WITH PROBLEMS LET EVERYONE YOU KNOW HEAR ABOUT IT AS WELL AS THE BBB AND YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL. IF YOU ARE LOOKING AT GETTING A VW, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP BECAUSE YOU MAY BE NUTS!!!

Strength:

Handles nice.

Weakness:

Many.

A lemon in sheeps clothing. My dealer has started to give me serious discounts on repairs to this vehicle as he is feeling very sorry for me at this point. We have replaced the following: - Mass Air Flow Sensor (x2) - Oxygen Sensor (x2) - Battery - Alternator - Cloth seats replaced and ripping again - Recalled tires - Arm rest clasp broken - Rear ashtray falling apart - Wiring recall - Automatic Transmission is crap - Air bag The dash board has been lit up like a Christmas tree several times. I don't think that there has been a span of more than a week that there hasn't been some kind of warning light staring me in the face laughing. I am doing everything in my power to try and get out of my lease and VW is doing there best at trying to force me to keep the car. They are not very fun to deal with.

you name it.

Let's see, where do I begin. This car is the worst car ever made. In 1 1/2 yrs. I have put $5000 worth of work into a $14,000 car. My most recent episode is with the transmission. Jetta's don't have a dipstick for the transmission so you can't see if it has any fluid left in it. After having some problems with the shifting I took it to the dealership who of course could only hook it up to the computer to see what was wrong with it (what did they do before computers???). Anyhow, they stated they fixed it and not only was it not but it was worse. They looked at it again and told me that my transmission had to be rebuilt because the transmission filter had fallen off and caused something in the transmission to fail. All in all, this car sucks and it costs and arm and a leg to fix it. I wouldn't recommend this car to my worst enemy.
