Seating options. Mileage.
Weakness:
Unreliable. What's next?? Dealer haven't been of any help either. Won't do it again! We bought it for it's seating options. Loved the removable single seats in the middle row. 1st problem: upholstery came apart on the front seats. 2nd problem: low coolant level light stuck on. 3rd: lost program for service indicator. 4th: leaky manifold gasket. 5th: passenger side front window motor broke, window fell off track and broke. 6th: thermostat stuck and engine tends to overheat due to required coolant. Kept up with manufacturer's recommended service. Similar Products Used: Drove a Ford Aerostar to death and loved it! Gave us little problems. Only went to a Chevy because of seating. Liked that 7 passenger option. |

Roomy and comfortable. Nice ride when its not in the shop being repaired.
Weakness:
Major problems at low mileage. Can't wait to trade it in for a quality Honda or Toyota van. NEVER,NEVER,NEVER BUY A CHEVY VENTURE!!!Bought the van new.At first many small problems such as repairs to trim, cupholders, airbag sensors. Then at 41000 miles the intake manifold gasket started leaking. It was replaced by dealer after lenghty fight as vehicle was no longer under warranty. At 50300 miles the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $3000.The vehicle never showed signs that there was even a problem. The vehicle was maintained according to the schedule provided by GM.Calls to the dealer and GM Customer Assistance brought no relief.I will never buy another Chevy product!!!!! TO MANY PROBLEMS TO CONSIDER THE STRENGTHS DONT BUY THIS CAR! I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IS THE FACT THAT THE POWER DOOR OPENS AT WILL. EVEN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN AND CAN NOT PUT THEM NEAR THE DOOR. THE DEALERS STANDARD RESPONSE IS "CAN NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM" THIS SEEMS TO BE ONE OF THERE NEW CANNED QUOTES. THERE ARE MANY CUSTOMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER ACTS LIKE IT DOESNT EXIST. I GUESS THEY ARE WAITING FOR A CHILD TO DIE. OTHER PROBLEMS: ELECTRONIC IGNITION FAILS TO WORK KEY BECOMES DEPROGRAMED SO CAR WONT START. CAR MUST BE TOWED AND KEY CAN ONLY BE DUPLICATED AT DEALERSHIP. VCR FAILED 3 TIMES REAR WINDOW DOES NOT OPEN SO IF ITEMS ARE NOT SECURED IN BACK THEY FALL OUT WHEN HATCH IS OPENED. DOORS LOCK BY THEMSELVES AT RANDOM. BRAKES FAIL QUICKLY. Weakness:
Very poor reliability. Lousy ride. Cheap Dash, no gages. I have owned several GM vehicles and never had much problems. The Venture has made up for this. Recalls galore. Replaced Rack and pinion, power window motor drivers side, after repair by dealer glass fell of track and shattered. Water pump replaced. Intake Manifold Gaskets replaced. Steering pulls to one side(right) and never felt quite right. I'm very disappointed in this van. I really have had nothing but good experiences with past GM cars but this has shaken my confidence severely. Similar Products Used: Buick wagon no problems. |

Strength:
Rides nice - has plenty of room - love the automatic sliding door.
Weakness:
Delaership and factories not taking responsibility for building vehicles like crap and then expecting the consumer to pay for repair above and beyond the huge sticker price. Sound system shortened out within the first year - back speakers didn't work - first service place could not find the problem - second place found it and replaced. After 43,000 coolant started to leak into the engine and the manifold was loose - SORRY that'll be $1000. If it weren't for MANUFACTURE/FACTORY problems that are not covered unless you get an extended warranty - I like the vehicle. |

Smooth ride. Handles well in bad weather. Roomy.
Weakness:
Engine problems due to fuel system and coolant leaks. Seem to be having the same string of problems that others have - leaking coolant requiring replacement of intake manifold gasket at 53K miles($600). Recently lost headlight cover (will cost at least $100 to replace). Also have a recurring problem with service engine light coming on and 1 to 2 plugs missing for a short time then light goes off and everything back to normal. Shop claims due to dirty injectors and fuel filter. Happened again almost 1 year to the day after paying shop $160 to replace the fuel filter and clean injectors. Now I buy injector cleaner and put in gas every other tank. Most recently had 2 separate recall repairs in less than 2 months. Otherwise its a reliable starter and handles well in snow and ice. Chevy Venture short van
DONT BUY A VENTURE VAN!!!We got this van used, and it was properly maintained in the two yrs we had it. Things broke on this van(like the tire rod)- the dealer said the design of the van made it "prematurly fail"..We went thru tires and brakes, the air conditioner blower stopped working...and I know my radiator was going to be next...Needless to say- we just got rid of it, and bought a toyota...RUN AWAY- DONT EVER BUY A VENTURE VAN!!!!! |

Look above. If you are looking to buy a Venture - RUN the other way! We have had nothing but problems with this van and I will never buy another. We were loyal to our dealer and they refused to help us. Molding falling off, rear washer tubing cracked leaking, intake manifold repaired at $1,000, damage to engine. Key pad wont work, receptor for key bad is bad need to replace at $520 (went a 1,000 miles after warranty) engine coolant light sensor bad. Rear tailgate wont stay up any longer. I complained to GM assistance center and was told they would help with cost of key pad sensor. The dealer tried to tell me I hadn't had any oil changes or service on the van and I have records. They then listed that there was no maintenance on the van on the papers when we had the intake manifold fix. We called to complain and they wont remove it. The passenger seat is coming apart in back. I loved it at first and now can't wait to push it off a cliff. I won't sell it to anyone else because I'd feel terrible for the problems they will be getting into. I am writing to the attorney general in WI and complaining. The service person at Holz told me that there was another Venture in at the same time with the same mileage and having the intake manifold fixed as well. LISTEN UP GM You know what is going on and you are ignoring us. I have so much money invested and three more years to pay for it. GM you can buy it back and refund my money. I will never buy GM again. I will walk first |

Strength:
Good A/C and heater system, traction control, ABS and fuel.
Weakness:
Bad transmission, leaky intake manifold(design problem), inferoir belt constraint system for 3 months. Could have cost my family their lives in a bad collision/rollover. Bought (5/2000) from a local dealer. 3 months went by before the 1st recall was sent to me. 6 of 7 belts were defective and had to be replaced at THEIR convenience and not mine. 3 trips in all to correct this error! (10/2000)Broken tailgate strap a few months later. Replaced under warranty. Sliding side door(pass. side) recalled as part would fail and "door could open on a NORMAL turn" on the roadway. 1/2002: Rear heater/radio panels falling off and cupholder under front pass. seat broken. Replaced cupholder ($65+labor) and glued control panels on as parts exceeded $100. Glue= $3.95. (6/2002)VCR jams a tape inside of unit and won't eject. Mechanic says they send to outside vendor for $75 bench fee. I can buy one cheaper than they can fix it for.Forget it! (10/2002) Transmission makes clunking sounds when going from Reverse into Drive, even when the van was at a complete stop. Took to dealer and found out the trans. was gone. Sludge and metal everywhere! Went on websites and found similar problems 97-present. Dealer was going to charge $3000 for a new trans. but the person who sold the van to me intervened and had GM buy half, since mileage was just over36k. The new trans. is warranteed for 50k! Why is there a better trans. after the factory installed one???????? Sounds shady on GM's part. Then the mechanic says, I'm "leaking coolant from around the intake manifold". Websites concer similar problems abound with these vans/engines.(3.4L) Now I have to save for a manifold repair. I can't wait to sell this pile of junk! Once a lifetime Chevy man, now NEVER again a Chevy man! Similar Products Used: Chev.Nova, Cavalier, & Baretta. GMC S-15 longbed(another fine piece of work!) |
