A lot of people talk bad about this van, but to tell you the truth I/we have had no problems! This van has been the best car we have ever owned. I kinda got scared reading all the horror stories! But anyhow I cant complain. I feel bad for everyone who can, maybe we got lucky. I like this van. It has plenty of room, good engine, very stylish and we have had 0 problems. Strength:
3.3 motor has decent power, lots of room (can invite everyone along for rides) drives like a car of course, good gas mileage, metallic paint looks new every time I wash it, nice sporty looks
Weakness:
lots of recalls (time waster), transmission woes, body rattles frequently, hard on brake pads, engine bay cramped for simple repairs (anyone actually replaced their spark plugs without a trip to dealer?) I will not stand out in the crowd if I say that my recomendation is to not buy this van. But the truth hurts. I DO TOW with this van, which is something I do not see many caravan owners admitt to in their reviews. I see many vans on the road towing popup campers just like me. However, my towing is within the limits set by Dodge themselves. I changed the tranny fluid every 15K miles as required in the owners manual for towing. Oil changed every 3k as required for towing service. Still, here I am with 45k on the van looking at an expensive tramsmission repair bill. If I had not replaced the fluid so frequently, I am convinced it would not have lasted this long. SURPRISE: Dodge offered to pay for most of this expensive trans rebuild. My local dealer called Dodge before contacting about the major problem. I learned that my tranny was shot, and that Dodge would pay for most of it since it was only 9k out of warranty in the same phone call. This takes some of the sting out of the procedure, but my part is still going to be about $700. A transmission should not fail this early. It is no secret to my dealer that I tow,(big classIII hitch is hard to miss) and they never tried to place blame for the failed transmission on towing. I thought this was odd, I would ask if I was them. After some research on my part, I know why they did not ask me about towing. These transmissions seem to fail no matter what you do with them. If anyone doubts this, call your local Ammco or other tranny shop, and ask them what is their number one tranny rebuild. This caravan transmission is the most frequently rebuilt. Except for the transmission and other small repairs, this is a good vehicle. It is too bad for Dodge, because I can no longer trust this vehicle. I will dispose of this van as soon as the tranny is replaced. My next vehicle will be an SUV, and the Durango is not even an option because there will be no more Chrysler products parked in my garage. If you do buy a caravan, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANY!!!!! I would keep the van if I had the extended warranty.I love this van, but these expensive repairs happen all too frequently it seems with the caravan. I still think the caravan platform is the best, but reliability comes into play after a while which is the only reason I am totally unsatisfied with the vehicle. I like the interior. The seats are comfortable
Weakness:
Wipers go on and off all the time. The heater only work on high. The transmission died at 48,000 I would not recommended unless it came with a lifetime warranty. It crazy when you have to make these costly repairs for a lemon. Similar Products Used: Ford, cost less last me 2 times longer than this junk |

Well I could go on and on about the tranny as well all know. But if I would have known about this a long time ago I would not have gotten a dodge.I But bought the van at like 40,000 miles little did I know that the clock was ticking. Because it was at like 75,000 miles that it went out. Well thank god that all of this happened like 2 weeks before the warrenty went out. I put the new tranny in and 3 days later there was another problem with the tranny again so we had to take it some place else to get fixed!!!! So I was of course thinking that is was all fixed well we moved to a whole different state and now it is giving problems again. I took it in to get fixed But but the guy tells me that I need to have a computer hooked uo to it and that he thinks it is a elec problem. Why do you ask? because he says that my car has just over 100,000 miles and there is no way that a car should need 3 trannys in it with that amount of miles. I just laughed at him. what it does is it will only run 1&2nd gear pretty well but It is very hard to get it to slip into any of the others. I have to let the car warm up for 25-30 min's before I even think about driving it and god forbid if I have to go food shopping. If I let it warm up good it really does not have any problems with it. But I don't dare drive on the freeway. I can only drive where I do not have to go into 4-5 gear so I am limited to all areas between 25-35 mph. So I am a bit stressed about this because I do not see how thay can just get away with this. year after year and not do anything about it after all of this time and I have seen alot of complaints in this car just in the past 2 days i have seen 100's I would not recommend it because all it is, is a big money trap and if for some reason do do want to buy it get the most abount of warrenty you can on it or you will regret it big time. So you might as well just buy another car because I do not think it is worth the time and effort. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
It has a pretty smooth ride on certain surfaces. It handles well on curves, does not feel top heavy.
Weakness:
The transmission was diagnosed as bad right after i bought it with 69000 miles on it. It stumbles or hesitates with a thumping sound at around 30-35 MPH and again at 50 MPH when accelerating. Dodge gave me a $2000 estimate but a local tranny guy said I might as well just drive it like that because I'll need to replace it by 90000 as the caravans only last that long. I had some correspondence with Chrysler as well. They sent me a BS letter saying how they were sorry with my dissatisfaction but they were making substantial headway in Customer Satisfaction. The nerve. Well, they are hurting badly in sales this year and I guarantee it's because the word is getting out that they've been peddling garbage thanks to the Internet. There is tons of documnetationa on what ad dog this A-604 tranny is. There is an attorney who has tried to get a class action law suit going. I keep getting these stupid racall notices for piddly things. I WANT A RECALL FOR THE @#$#%*& TRANSMISSION!! Plus the ABS pump makes a belching sound everytime you brake. What's up with that? I took a bath on value right after I purchased it. I am forced to keep it in order to retain any value for my money. Plus selling it will lay a guilt trip on anyone for peddling a know piece of JUNK! As, i told Chrysler in my letter to them. !!I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Everything, this is truely a great van. It drives like a car, and rides like one too. Bumps are absorbed readily, and it just floats like a dream. The seats are very comfortable, and are great for long drives. It gets great gas mileage, and has very good power when passing with the 3.3L V6. I've logged about 60,000 miles so far, and it's been a dream. You can't hear the engine run when you are at idle, it's that quiet. Seals are very tight after that many miles, and it still feels like new. Great for traveling with six passengers and luggage, and it actually looks appealing. It's not your typical box that rides like a truck, it is very sleek and aerodynamic. Great and Wonderful minivan - even for heavy loads with the heavy duty suspension.
Weakness:
One minor seal on the transmission that was only noticable because of the small mark it left on the garage floor. Replaced no problem. I would recomend it because of all the reasons listed above. There simply isn't a better minivan for your value on the market. All the competition (and I've looked) are not even close to this great value. Chrysler - Keep up the good work on your minivans. Strength:
Comfortable for everyone, Seats sit you high for good visability, body integrety is great, easy to get in and out of,
Weakness:
I have changed everything else. While it has 260,000 miles on it, they didn't come without a cost. I really like the car for comfort, and for the size the MPG. I took Family Vacations on long trips and averaged 26 MPG fully loaded. Body still looks great with a quarter million miles so I can't throw it away but no one thinks it has any value. I guess as long as sears stays in business and the body stays together I may get another couple more hundred thousand out of it. Similar Products Used: VW Rabbit, Ford Escort, Ford tempo |
