- high level of wind noises I would not recommend this car to anybody. I bought it because of two factors - price and size (need to haul some construction materials occasionally). My first choice was Honda odyssey, but it was not readily available (6 month waiting period), and priced above sticker. Now I regret I did not buy Japanese. Similar Products Used: 1993 Dodge Caravan. I bought 2 years ago with 73K miles. Died at 98K. |

NOTHING AT ALL!!! The 3.0l V6 is not strong enough. The interior and exterior quality are questionable
Weakness:
The 3.0l V6 is not strong enough. The interior and exterior quality are questionable. The TRANSMISSION IS EXTREMELY POOR!!! It has gone already on less than 80,000miles!!! I do not recommend this vehicle to anyone, nor will I ever buy a Chrysler product again! Heat is extremely poor, even with a brand new thermostat! We currently own a 1996 Chevy Blazer and a 1994 Acura Integra. Both are in superior shape and run cleaner than the Caravan does. Both have twice as many miles on the engine. I DO NOT recommend this poorly built vehicle or any other Chrysler vehicle to anyone who is looking for a reliable vehicle. Originally, we wanted the roominess, but now, we only regret purchasing this vehicle. I would opt for a Japanese or even a GM built car in an instant over this one. Don't say I, as well as dozens of other people on this same post, didn't warn ya! DO NOT BUY A CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Similar Products Used: It compares terribly to any other product on the market |

I'm on my third transmission and i'ts in the shop right now as of this writing. First transmission went out at 44,000 miles. Second transmission went out at 85,000. Mind you this is driving highway miles with no towing etc. Dodge offered no help with bills that have totaled more than 5,000.00 I would strongly urge anyone from purchasing any Chrysler product. Your asking for problems. Stay away!! Similar Products Used: I have a 92 Pontiac 4spd stick with 1777,000 miles no severe problems. Much more reliable. Purchased it used. |

Head gasket blows too easily...EGR and OS2 sensors ceased completely I wouldn't recommend this piece of crap to anyone! Dodge doesn't honor any of it's customers and if this is the way they are going to treat customers, they should be put out of business. I've driven Dodge K cars that lasted longer than this hunk of junk without any major repairs...if the engine overheats AT ALL expect the head gasket to blow, ding, or warp or all the above! Expect the EGR and OS2 sensors to cease as well...with the price of gas these days you don't need to use up 1/4 tank on less than 20 miles of driving. Also expect to get readings from a rad of minimal 220 ppms from a hydrocarbon sensor....it should be reading 20 at the most..this van isn't even good for lawn decoration! Strength:
I have had three Dodge Caravans - an '88, a '95 and now the '00. I don't understand how all of these people can have the problems that they have had with the vehicle and/or the service. I have had the vehicle serviced according to Chrysler recommendations and got 185,000 kms from the 88, 150,000 from the 95 and am starting on the '00. I have had the 3.0 litre 6 in all of them and had no major engine or tranny trouble with any of them. I change oil every 5,000 km. and have the required service done. I had a fuel pump go on the 88 and Chrysler replaced it out of warranty. These vans have never stranded me anywhere and I run some rough roads. They seem put together well and drive very smoothly. I have had Hondas previously to these vehicles so I know what a quality car is like.Never replaced an exhaust system, head gasket, fuel injectors or anything like what these other folks had done - maybe I just lucked in.
Weakness:
Brakes are easily worn out - that's because of heavy front end bias in weight on front wheel drive vans. Radios are getting better but not perfect yet. Seating is much better in the '00. Dash is much better laid out. If you develop a good relationship with your service department head they will stand behind you. Roomy, good styling, takes a good load, comfortable on long trips, reasonably good gas milage. My dealer is tops! I would not stay away from Chrysler products, but I would check out the repair department. It is critical (it seems) to have all of the scheduled repairs and service done if you expect Chrysler to come through in the crunch. Three in a row good ones can't be wrong for me! Similar Products Used: Honda Accord and Honda Civic - equally trouble free. My father has driven Chryslers since 1980 - a K- Car and an Acclaim with no problems. |

I like the design and roominess. I like the fact that I can fit 5 people besides myself inside. That is about all.
Weakness:
TRANSMISSION - TRANSMISSION - TRANSMISSION I have had no other problems except that. I would not reccomend a Caravan to anyone until Daimler-Chrysler fixes the problems with the transmission. I purchased my Caravan in September of 1998 used. It had 49,000 miles. 2 months later the transmission died while I was on the freeway. It cost me $1,700.00 to fix. In September of 1999 the transmission died again. It cost me $1,400.00 to fix. Three days ago (11-30-00) It died again. The same exact problem as last year. I have paid $2,100.00 for a complete rebuilt transmission. It supposably has a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty. All my dealings with Chrysler were terrible. Since it was not under warranty I was told I would have to pay for repairs. I am in the process of suing Chrysler in Superior Court for all repairs and Kelley Blue Book value as advised from an attorney I retained. I will keep eveyone appraised of my situation. Based on complaints made by other owners to NHTSA and webpages like this I think I have a good case. I will see. The computer makes you choose atleast one star for Value and Overall ratings. I DO NOT give them any... Similar Products Used: None. I used to own a Jeep Chereoke and Pontiac Sunbird. Had almost 200,000 miles on both. No problems....should have kept them. |

Room for 7 people. Plenty of power and pretty good gas milage about 21 average
Weakness:
Of course the transmission problem Found this van with only 49000miles on it. Called owner to make sure miles were legit. Previous owner had extended warranty so had transferred which payed off when the transmission failed at 54000 miles. Discovered Dodge vans have bad transmissions. I cant understand why somebody has not filed a lawsuit against Dodge concerning a big problem. Egr valved failed 200 dollars, o2 sensor failed 200 dollars. But I do like the room and the power of the 3.8 liter motor. |

Strength:
Van has been very good so far. Great engine in the 3.0 liter V6 . Love the 3 speed auto , purposely stayed away from the 4 speed with it's above average complaints though i think it has been improved greatly .
Weakness:
Tires wore out within 35000 miles , cheap Goodyears . Had the famous phantom wiper problem . Fixed by dealer haven't seen any more problem in about 2 years . Shortage of leg room in standard length vans . I highly reccomend it , if you can find a 96 or new van with the 3 speed auto (only available with the 3.0 V6 or 2.4 liter four cylinder . So far in almost 50000 miles the only problem has been the wiper problem . Engine and tranny has been great so far and it gets 26-27 mpg on highway trips at 65-70 mph . Similar Products Used: First minivan , previously had a 92 Taurus sedan what a piece of junk , constantly in the shop for one thing . Towed to dealer multiple times , now driveable for things like broken engine mounts , premature failure of coolant hoses etc.... |
