Strength:

great layout, easy to deal with small children in carseats

Weakness:

p.o.s. bought it 5 days ago at 65,000 miles, yesterday transmission slipped on the way to the dealership for a pinging noise in the engine area. Mechanic drove it and said overdrive and fourth are gone and second is on its way. Unbelievable, five days and apparantly there's not a thing we can do but pick up the tab. Maybe the dealership will give us a break but it's doubtful.

Buy the extended warranty! Wanted to but my mother reccommended not. Bad choice, now after financing almost 14'000.00 five days ago, we're stuck with a bad tranny or a 2,000.00 repair fee!

Strength:

Great front seats, center captains chairs just as good.
Great visiability. Love the tinted windows.
Smooth quiet ride.
Huge space.
Stable ride and control on roads.
Gas economy good for wieght and size of vehicle, 23 highway.
ABS works well.

Weakness:

3.3 Liter V6, nice engine from start, no passing power, kinda week.
Rollout seats nice, but very heavy.

Purchased with 41,000 miles, currently has 67,000 miles. This has been a great vehicle. Was nervous about buying dodge product due to reliability issues, turned out great. Very flexible van. Carried 4x8 plywood, doors, full size couches, chairs, etc., then put seats back in carry seven people in a very comfortable environment. The rear ac/heat controls tough to figure out, but after a year or so, think we got it. Superior space and comfort. Maintenance seems fair, dealer has been excellent. Wipers, $120 bucks for 3, ouch. Serpentine belt replaced early at 47,000 miles, maintenance book says 60,000, dealer said 45-50,000 was normal. Was cheap though. The tranny maintenance is heavy, every 15,000 miles change fluid, seems a bit frequent compared to others. Nice paint and interior. Looks sharp with dark tint windows and alloy wheels. Double doors are awesome with kids. Have taken this van on very long drives, 7 -8 hours straight, comfort is exceptional, made drives easy. Crusies at 80-85 with 22 mpg, stable (recommend radar detector for those speeds), quiet ride. Recommend this van. Look for complete maintenance records, the one we bought was serviced by the dealer only and we take it to the same dealer.

17,995 Brand New.I simply cannot believe some of these reviews. This van has done it all. At 5 years old and 84,000 miles, there's not a single thing that has gone wrong. Besides tires and oil changes and whatever routine maintenance things there are its all original parts. Even the MUFFLER is the original. Once drove 12 hours straight with A/C on all the time from Virginia Beach to St. Louis through the mountains and everything. Best 12 hours I've ever spent in an automobile. I highly highly recommend this van or any other Chrysler product. Especially the new P/T cruiser and any year Intrepid.

not a powerhouse when loaded, ever try to change the spark plugs?

I can't believe the reviews here. I love my van. Purchased 2 years old with 60k miles and have had no major OR minor repairs, just maintainance. Now has 109k miles and I can't wait until my Saturn (which I hate) dies so I can buy a 2001 caravan with the new 3.5L zoomer. I feel very safe driving it, good view of the road, anti-lock brakes, etc.. nothing better for hauling around our 2-yr old and all his 'essentials'.
Compared to the Econoline, this minivan hauls as much, handles better, better mpg, stops faster, more quiet, etc.

Strength:

roomy and good looking

Weakness:

I don't like everything under the hood and underneath the car. The van is
basically a lemon. You put money after money hoping that you have fixed
everything and will last for awhile. Over the nine years period,
three transmission rebuilt (20k, 40k, 60k), six water pumps,
six or seven belt tensioner, 1 fuel pump, 1 A/C, 6 ABS bump(recall item),
1 electronic distributor, 3 sets of spark plug wires and the sliding door switch).
Thanks to the factory extended warranty, it is a WELL-SPENT $700 for
7/72000 miles, with $25 deductible.
We are "lucky", we are only stranded once in the 100 degree desert for 3 hours.

Paid $22,000 out the door, new in 1991. Don't buy this trash. If you do
buy it, make sure you also bought the extended warranty. Its worth it.
If you believe Chrysler has fixed the transmission, don't be a sucker.
If you heard that transmission only existed on previous year model, don't
believe it. Its a lie. And I was a sucker. Every damn ultra transmission
is a lemom. Buy the Japanese. Stay away from the Caravan.

Strength:

we have lots of room for the kids and going on trips

Weakness:

The Roters in the front of the van have been fix twice, the windshield wipers have never stopped, we have replaced the brakes, the back window leaks, the cd box broke, we just replaced the battery at 58,000 miles we have been stranded twice in this vehicle because of the battery going dead. Our transmission is slipping and will be going out soon like the rest of the luck folks that own one.

We paid 25,000 and I would only recommend the van to someone that is able to take out the extended warrenty on every item in the vehical. The quality of the van is no good. We traded in our Honda because we needed the room, next van or vehicle we buy will be back to a Honda, they seem to last and have the quality that out last Ford and Chrystler and Dodge. I have not had very good service from the Dodge dealership in Spokane, they had the van for over 5 hours and gave it back to me and say there was nothing wrong and charged my warrenty on the rotar's, so then I had to turn around and go on a two hour drive back to the dealership we bought the van from because the Spokane Dodge dealership did not give the service to us because we did not purchase the vehicle from them..POOR POOR POOR SERVICE.....The same dealership had my Aunts Caravan and did not tighted up the nuts on the tire and as she was coming off the freeway at 5 AM in the morning her tire fell off. Her van was a mess thanks to the Dodge Dealership....I would like the opportunity to be able to get through the lines at the Dodge Manufacture and see if they have the answers to why they are still building these vehicles with all the same problems.

It's a minivan - all are good family vehicles if they stay running and don't break the bank.

Weakness:

What a piece of junk!!!!! We just lost our second transmission - the shop is quoting $1000. It was just rebuilt 30,000 miles ago. This time the torque converter came apart and damaged the rest of the tranny in the process. Recalls - the last time I brought it in it took 2 hours to complete and dealership screwed up my liftgate lights!!!! Lousy gas mileage.

Listen to me now believe me later - STEAR CLEAR OF CHRYSTLER MINIVANS!!!!!!! Unless you like spending money or dealing with agravation.

Capacity to haul, space, usefullness, gas mileage (4 cyl).

Weakness:

Had to completly rebuild engine at 89K miles, was burning a quart of oil per 100 miles. Radio went out twice, window tracks broke, CV boots (3 times), AC compressor, steering pump, fuel pump, water pump, and rotors all went prematurely.

I am a mechanic, and this van kept me busy, but was very useful and drove well in between maintenance. I have had no transmission problems in 127,000 miles. change your fuel pump if you have more than 90k miles. It will just quit otherwise. The 4 cyl is easier to maintain than the six. If you rebuild the 2,5 four, get a counter-balancer elimination kit! This engine has a lot of moving parts that wear out. Overall the van has been okay, but high maintenance. I was able to handle all repairs so my review may be biased towards those mechanically inclined. A woman would have hated this van. All vehicles require periodic maintenance, Caravan's need more than others.

It has good size and style, very well laid out interior. You can stick tons of people or equipment in it.

Weakness:

These outweigh the good. It GUZZLES, I personally like high mpg and this van does not deliver (18 mpg). I'm lucky my transmission hasn't crapped out yet at 87000 miles. Had to fix defective airbag last week for 250 bones. Oh yeah, it corners about as well a semi, I swear to god I feel like tipping over on moderatley tight turns.

Get a car, how often do you REALLY need 7 seats. All we got for 27000 is a hog and a headache. It is smooth however. I would not recomend this

3rd and last Caravan. What a piece of junk. Transmission went at 130K and 190K.

We have made many cross Canada trips to the east and west coast with this Van. I joined CAA first so my family would not be stranded if we had another transmission blow. This Van is why man created a Cell phone. I wonder when CAA wil charge a premium for Caravan owners? Stay away from Chrysler products until they own up to fixing this massive transmission problem. Not a good representation of North American Quality. Time to purchase Japaneese.
