Dodge Grand Caravan
Strength:
it's roomy...if only it would run!
Weakness:
have owned this car for 14 months and the transmission went already! thank heaven for the roadside assistance--you WILL need it with this one. I believed all the bull about how much Chrysler/Dodge products have improved, and I am in shock as to how little has changed. They are still undependable pieces of junk! I can't wait to trade this thing in for a Honda or Toyota, but of course this car has depreciated so much I won't get anything for it. Paid about 20,000 for the SE model. I wouldn't recommend this financial black hole to my worst enemy. Never again. If I could I'd give 0 stars. Similar Products Used: Used to drive a Toyota RAV4. Not a day's trouble in 36 months. |

Weakness:
it is a piece of junk- barely got us from here to there without needing some major repair! Air conditioning, rotors, brakes, door adjustments, and of course that "terrific" transmission that a previous reviewer had also mentioned. Chrysler - don't go there! we are highly suspect through our ability to trace some of these "reviews" that many with 4's or 5's are submitted by chrysler brown nosing, butt-kissing executives who try to raise the overall average rating of this vehicle by submitting totally false reports. Similar Products Used: Honda no comparison we were stupid - we're heading back to honda with our next vehicle! |

Dodge Caravan
Strength:
Smooth ride, climbs hills nicely (using 3.3L V6 engine), comforatble seating, lots of cargo room if needed.
Weakness:
Recalls, recalls, recalls, recalls (7 in all so far). Have had to replace: brake pads and rotors, power steering pump, timing belt, brake pads and rotors, serpentine belt, fuel pump, water pump, radiator, brake pads and rotors (see a pattern here?), now facing transmission failure. Transmission replacement will cost $800-$1600, depending on who you ask. Still owe most of the $4500 paid. I don't recommend it. I am finding out from here that I am not the only one seeing transmission failure at 120,000ish miles. If singlehanded conspiracy were not an oxymoron, this van would be guilty of one to ensure that I remain broke. I have only had it for one year, for crying out loud! Similar Products Used: Previously drove Dodge Dakota Pickup, liked it a lot, much more reliable. |

Plymouth Voyager SE
Strength:
At this point in time... nothing.
Weakness:
Replaced transmission with genuine Chrysler Rebuild... nothing but troubles and local Chrysler dealership insists on us paying labor (roughyly $600) to replace the transmission... we just forked over $1600. Replaced powersteering pump, fuel pump, a/c compressor and related components, etc. We have spent more in the last 3 years on repairs than we paid for the van! Everytime we think we've got something repaired, something else goes wrong! I used to think... well, we've pretty much got a new van because we've replaced so much on it so lets hang onto it, besides we've poured so much money into it how can we back out now?" That was then... after wrestling with Chrylsler trying to get things fixed under warranty recently, my opinion is "RUN LIKE HELL FROM ANY CHRYSLER PRODUCT... EVEN IF IT'S UNDER "WARRANTY" AND I USE THE TERM LOOSELY. If you read the reviews... I believe you'll notice new Chrysler owners are somewhat pleased, but as the time/mileage accumulates (along with the cost of repairs/inconvience) the customer satisfaction goes down... just an observation of mine - perhaps I'll chart it and post it on the web for interested others to see. PERSONALLY, I PLAN TO GET RID OF MY CHRYSLER MINIVAN ASAP! I HATE THEIR PRODUCTS, I HATE THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE... I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!!! Wow! My husband, kids and I just brought home our new 2000 Honda Odyssey and just for fun, went online to read reviews about it - all were great almost 100%were 4 or 5 stars we are soo... HAPPY!!! Then, just for fun we went to the Dodge Caravan area to read about those ohhhh baby - the stories I can share with you! Want to curl your hair? Read on!
Weakness:
Aaaggghhh---------------EVERYTHING - Like for instance how about the sliding door falling OFF, YES- I SAID OFF!!!!! Last winter an 10 year old closed the sliding door in a shopping center parking lot and let me repeat this just 1 more time - THE DOOR FELL OFF!! Talk about blood pressure. Oh yes and then there was that transmission! Dodge has known about the problem for YEARS - and refuses to do anything to fix it (on newer models)for instance their "wonderful" "new" 2001 has the same old trans in it that they did in the 80's. Of course Chrysler is really a German company now so maybe Jergens Shrimp will fix it some upcoming year when he's not busy buying the Chrysler building and renovating it's "Cloud Room" to the tune of millions of dollars that he has access to because of poor suckers like Chrysler owners. Oh, did I forget to mention the air conditioner had to be replaced after only a couple of seasons. WHEW! i COULD GO ON FOREVER BUT IT'S BEDTIME HERE! SEE ABOVE - ALSO YOU REALLY DO NEED A ZERO STARS FOR THIS CHRYSLER PRODUCT! Similar Products Used: honda odyssey - LOVE IT! |

Plymouth Voyager
Strength:
I have owned it for almost 3 years and just clicked over 190,000 miles, had 127,000 when I bought it. It still runs and drives like new. The seats are comfortable, the cruise works awesome and the a/c is still cold.
Weakness:
The speedometer is getting a mind of its own, can't find the problem and the ride is kind of rough even though the shocks have been replaced two months ago. I paid $3500 three years ago and don't regret it. I recommend anyone wanting a chrysler mini van go with a Voyager and not a Caravan. Similar Products Used: Use to drive caravans and never happy. Friend suggested I turn in my Caravan and get a Voyager, never been happier. |

replaced transmission 3 times..only once under warranty...rear seal no good;body rusting like a cheap nail; water pump-crap; fuel pump spewed contents of gas tank onto road;brakes make strange ticking noise but problem can't be located without tearing the van apart piece by piece;lousy gas mileage;door chime dings constantly;speakers on radio a piece of crap..can't even use radio to drown out all the other noises this van makes!; trim falling off inside everywhere..have written a message on the back hatch with magic marker that reads:Wanna lose weight? Drive a caravan, it'll force you to walk at least 3x per week!;if you want a blood pressure problem...buy one of these suckers..i couldn't even give this piece of crap to a wrecking yard...there are no salvageable parts...DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE...NOT EVEN A NEWER MODEL....THIS VEHICLE SHOULD COME WITH free PSYCHIATRIC COUNSELLING! Regret: spending more than 10 cents on this piece of garbage..in fact if anyone offers to give you one FREE.....run like hell As far as reviews go....was disappointed that "no stars" was not an option. Similar Products Used: another caravan...89...obviously believed the bull---- that they improved it in 92 model year |
