Strength:

Great space, smooth ride

Weakness:

I have had transmissions problems, four in 2 1/2 years and now I need to replace the whole trans again..about 3,600 miles and NOW suddenly have a 3 year warranty. I am crazed. I need my van for work.

I am not only not recommending it I am seeking a class action suit, at any rate I am suing Dodge. My e mail is tealbany@earthlink.net to Eileen and Thomas Albany. If anyone out there would like to join in and tell me your stories...go for it.. I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER 1,200 DOLLARS TO SPEND FOR NO REASON.

Strength:

Roomy. Easy to take out seats and put them back in. Can climb hills with no problem

Weakness:

The warranty. 57000 miles and my transmission goes out. Whats that all about?

$22000. I would recommend it only if the warranty were better. At its present state I would recommend it to my worst enemy. I have a wife and three kids. One car. I don't have the $$ to shell out for a new transmission. I will pay extra attention to power train warranties next time. A lot of companies come with a standard 36 month bumper to bumper and a 5 yr 60000 mile power train warranty.

Strength:

Lots of room. Good gas mileage. Smooth ride. Dual sliding doors are great. Rear seats remove easily but if you have bench seats, they can be kind of heavy. Overall look is nice.

Weakness:

I have a regular Caravan. Passenger area in the back looks like it's more designed to carry kids rather than adults. I have the 4 cylinder which is ok but I like a little more power. No real problems. I bought one of the base models so I believe I got what I paid for. I'm getting kind of concerned with the transmission experiences everyone seemed to be facing. I haven't had any problems so far and hope I never do.

I would recommend this product to anyone who has kids and can't pay extraordinary prices for minivans. I have been on trips and it's my wife's every day car. It's serves the purpose of carrying the kids, the groceries and my wife from point A to point B in good confort. If you have the money, I would step up to the Grand Caravan SE or the Sport. If you have a lot more money, go for the Chrysler. I've had two Chrysler products and never really had any problems with either. Hopefully this will be the same.

Strength:

Roomy, good acceleration 3.3L

Weakness:

Transmission, stalling, electrical, lock on sliding door doesn't want to open all the way, making the side door hard or impossible to open.

Replaced brakes and front tires often. Had front end aligned several times and still the front tires would wear funny. Since van was approx 9 months old I have had electrical problems. Dodge Dealer said they couldn't find anything. After recall for airbag, I took it to a Chrysler dealer, I told them about the electrical problems, they also couldn't find anything wrong. The radio changes stations whenever it feels like it, the clock changes times whenever it feels like it. Then after 5 years the cassette in the player changes from one side to the other and back again, I can only guess until it is tired, or until I can't handle it anymore and shut it off. Those of you who say you have 70,000 miles and have had no transmission problems and possibly think the rest of us are crazy. I was told by a mechanic (not Chrysler or Dodge) Chrysler Minivan transmissions will go out at approximately 80,000. At the time I had 82,000 miles on mine and had decided to get rid of it quick, when 2 days later the transmission went out, with no warning, ($1500.00). At 98,000 miles, the head gasket blew, the engine overheated and slightly warped the head ($1500.00). I have an excellent mechanic now and he has been checking out the stalling problem. It is in the shop more than out as the computer is not showing any error codes, making the problem difficult to find. We are going through the sensors one at the time the cheapest first. We will find the problem. The worst part is Chrysler DOES NOT stand by their product. Every 6 months I would receive a questionaire wanting me to rate their quality and service, each time I would sent them one reasonablity favorable (as I did like the comfort of the minivan). When I was finally fed up I sent them one not favorable at all and I never heard from them again. If I can locate the stalling problem, I will probably keep the van as I am spoiled with not having to make car payments. Although now I am leery because of reviews regarding a second transmission problem so soon after the first one was repaired.

Strength:

Size.

Weakness:

Quality - replaced transmision at 45000 miles (of course it was just off warranty). Recalls, recalls, recalls.
I'm glad I leased this vehicle because I surely would not want to own it.

We will NEVER BUY a Dodge product again. The quality of the product is awful and the competition all has comparable features and superior quality. DADGE has lost the lead forever in minivans! I know of 15 other people in our circle switching from Dodge to either Seinna or Adyssey - and we are moving there too.

Strength:

Very smoth ride, plenty of room for kids and luggage.

Weakness:

Engine could have more power. Gas tank could be larger.

I paid < $14,000 when it was 2+ years old with < 30,000 miles. The only problem I have had (other than recalls) was a broken latch on one of the sliding doors. I would recommend this.

Strength:

the interior space for travel is great

Weakness:

poor quality...in 5 yrs we replaced the computer chip, radio, transmission. Paint was peeling and dealer said that was a known problem with the Chrysler product but they would only reimburse $200. Had a main seal leak (another popular problem with Dodge) The engine would cut off when exiting a highway ramp after driving for an hour or so. Had a electrical problem they never could find that made the doors ding and light flash when the door wasn't shut REALLY hard. went through brakepads every 3000 miles. RECALLS, RECALLS, RECALLS and poor service from the dealer

I will NEVER have another Dodge in my family. This was the worst vehicle I have ever owned and it wasn't just one thing...it was the whole van from the paint to the engine. And poor service from the dealer. Spent more time in a repair shop than on the road. Definately would deter anyone from wasting their money on Dodge Caravans.

Strength:

Seats are comfortable and the ride (especially on a long trip) is very good.

Weakness:

Transmission failures, rear-main seal leak. Cheap/plasticy periferals such as knob. Even the battery and cd player had to replaced.

The Caravan rides and feels nice but overall I can't wait to get rid of it (lease). The transmission has never been right and had to be replaced at 38,000 miles. Every small button or knob has broken. Even the rear view mirror fell off. Unreliable vehicle. To sum up, we tried to apply the NJ lemon law to this van but the problems were not "cronic" enough and the dealer made all necessary repairs.

Strength:

Style was this Vans greatest attribute.
The reason I bought this model was the look.

Weakness:

Well within the the three months I've owned this vehicle it's needed two rebuilt transmissions and new front brakes totalling over $6000.00 CDN

Not Happy
The result from researching this transmission problem leaves me wondering how Chrysler has gotten away without having all thier vans recalled. Some mechanics have said they would be out of business if it wasn't for this vehicle. I will be looking for another model minivan in the very near future and another dealership. I will also look forward to the court date that will be coming soon to recoup some the $$ lost.
Don't buy one.

Strength:

bought it for the extra side door on the drivers side, easy for the kid's to get out and in.

Weakness:

The big weekness is that i had to replace half the engine at 60,000 miles. Chrysler didn't reimburse me for that cost. In the winter time the back shocks make a very big noise when you go over every bump. The windshild wipers go on when it feels like it. The transmission leaks after 70,000 miles. The back power sidewindow opens when it feels like it. Had the radio replaced at 15,000 miles due to radio stations will not come in, that took the dealer 4 weeks to get me another one. THE SERVICE AT THE CHRYSLER DEALERS WHERE VERY POOR!

I would not recommend this product to any of my friend. I would recommend a Ford mini van, at least the company is helping there customers get there vehicles fixed correctly.

I don't have another product to compare it to, but I can say this " I will never have another Dodge in my Garage"
