Strength:

Reliability, beautiful engine sound, wonderful ergonomics, svelte styling, excellent paint job, exotic looks, great value, handles like it's on rails.

Weakness:

Red exotic looks keeps me very familiar with patrolmen, kids always peering into the engine compartment, fingerprints and facial smudges on my windows

I have nothing but rave reviews for this car. It exceeds all of my expectations. I believe that those who diss this car in the reviews do not own a NSX, for the weaknesses they list are very improbable, and some are downright ridiculous. I believe it is one of the most well-engineered exotic sports cars in history.

Strength:

The engine sounds like something out of a video game.
Reliability.

Weakness:

front spoiler is too low to the ground, have to be very careful with curbs and driveways.

I always felt this car was out of reach, but the used prices recently have made them very affordable. This car is very well engineered, and highly misunderstood. If you want a car for fast stoplight to stoplight drag racing, buy a camero, mustang, or vette. If you want a car that was built for the higher end, buy a NSX. This car is made to be driven. Some people treat cars as works of art. They are, but they are made to be driven and this car is a prime example of a car you can drive daily. Most people have no idea what an NSX looks like. They hear it is an Acura and think it must be some kind of luxury car. Forget the Italian/German stigma. They all have their merits, but few can come close to the etheral experience that this car will provide. It is a pure and simple grin machine that is reliable and comfortable, and this is what makes this one of the GREATEST SUPER CARS OF ALL TIME. You can do all of the comparisons you want but it is hard to beat the NSX. Anyone who does not have at least one good thing to say about this car has probably never driven one, so who are you going to believe?

Strength:

Build quality; technology; joy of revving; ergonomics, daily driver material, dealer network

Weakness:

Only two flaws of note and both relate to early cars: a certain range of transmissions suffer snap ring failure due to a flaw in the trasnmission case - investigate before buying a 1991 or 1992. The window lifts are flawed in design on the early models, too. Since fixed, but count on replacing yours on an old model at $500 each.
There is also the rear tire issue - 7500 miles of wear is normal on the factory Yokohamas (the only ones I have used so far). If you can't face the reality of replacing them at ($200 each at Tire Rack) do not buy this car.
Parts are very expensive compared to domestics and even low model Hondas, but there is an excellent support network among owners. Replacing the clutch, for example, set me back $2150. That was as cheap as I could manage to do it.
Handling can be a strength or weakness - when the back end breaks loose - it breaks lose!
Aftermarket upgrades are very expensive and only nitrous (think about how expensive that engine is before rushing in) or supercharging/turbocharging ($10,000) will get you any real power.
If you have a forced induction car, you may miss the rush from that.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this car to anyone. I really question the veracity of the posters who have criticized it - I doubt they ever owned one or even drove one (a 2000 model that cost him $50,000 in repairs - uh-huh, last I checked they are under warranty...). They most definitely are not the car for you if you are all about competition on the street. The NSX is NOT a drag car - a stock F-Body, or lightly modified Mustang well-driven will eat your (stock) lunch. Buy this car because you appreciate its exclusiveness, rarity, hand-built details, technology and SPORTS CAR (not muscle car) performance. If you are deep into the mods, forget it and get a Supra - you will be happier. If you like driving a distinct, beautiful car and not meeting yourself on the road ever minute (Trans-Ams, Mustangs, etc.), buy one. Buy a used one with records and feel secure in your purchase. If you cannot afford maintenance, forget it. Insurance for me is inexpensive and I am under 30. Do some research and talk to owners - we love our cars; I recommend http://www.nsxprime.com to get started.

Strength:

Best Paint Finish on the market. Ergonomics. Overall quality. Engine smoothness, sound, and power. Total precision throughout

Weakness:

Not for tall guys. Tire wear. Expensive maintenance. They forgot to install 7th and 8th cylinders. Bose stereo okay but all bass was the same note.

Bought it to use as daily driver. It ended up being more of a toy. Yes, things out there were faster, but nothing else I drove was as satisfying from a mechanical sense. Just the right balance of EVERYTHING. At commuting speeds, it just feels like a quick (not blistering), light, nimble, precision instrument. And I got lots of looks (sorry to say mostly from guys.)

All of the great handling you read about actually happens at triple digit speeds - and I did experience it a few times with great satisfaction. It is over the speed limit in a heartbeat. This is a contradiction but: Very seldom was I "cop-free" enough to really enjoy it; That said, it WOULD have been more fun to have more engine punch in the lower revs.

On a more practical basis, it tended to be too pretty to drive in the rain, or park next to the Gremlin at K-mart - or drive on the same road with dump trucks, etc. So much for the daily drive!! Yes, the front air dam rubbed sometimes, but the Vette I tried out was much worse - and compared to the NSX, felt like it was constructed by a high school autoshop class. The mechanicals all seemed durable while I owned it. Because of the mid-engine location, "doing it yourself" is much more difficult - and shop costs for any service were double to triple what you'd pay for the front engine Acuras (THEY don't like to work on them either!!).

I ended up selling it because it sat in my garage. I'll buy another one when they construct the 150 MPH racetrack between my office and my home. Or maybe I WILL retire in Germany where I drove at 160+ with no fear of cops doing their part to turn a fun activity into a crowd control event. With Americans' "drive any way you feel like; don't tell ME to get out of the left lane while I talk on my cellphone in my minivan" attitude (compared to the Germans' professional driving attitude), we aren't ready for Autobahns. And yes, I think the DOT guys are worthless too - cause they COULD fix it if they wanted to. Soapbox dismount.

Overall the older ones are a great buy - and I heartily recommend one to cure what ails you. Those guys who put this car down probably have no idea of how stupid they appear to those of us who actually owned one!

Strength:

Rarity...smooth power, exceptional handling, everyday driving comfort, Acura reliability, high quality fit/finish.

Weakness:

More power (although this will only get me into more trouble)...Price (new).

I've owned Cobras for many years (the last being a '99 model). I decided to finally try something different and drove everything I could possibly test drive...Nothing had convinced me to give up my Cobra until I got behind the wheel of an NSX. It is a car you must drive to truly appreciate...Although it doesn't have the brute force of more powerful cars, the power/speed can be deceiving because it achieves triple digit speeds without any drama at all. The driveline is super smooth, capable of executing 7-8000 rpm shifts as easily as a 3000 rpm shift. As others have stated, you will probably never be able to drive this car beyond its handling limits on the street. Best advice is to buy a used NSX...It's one of the best bargains out there if you're in the market for an underappreciated exotic.

Strength:

Looks, handling, RELIABLE, well mannered

Weakness:

Bose stereo, More power

The NSX is the best handling car I have ever driven. Loves twisty mountain roads. The way it reacts to the driver's input is scary! Love that VTEC roar! As much at home in traffic as it is on the highyway. The looks you get in this car is hysterical. I have nearly caused accidents from people breaking their necks looking at it. From what I have heard, the NSX goes through tires (especially the rears) but I haven't driven mine enough to tell as of yet. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the Bose stereo. Acura could do much better. The only major complaint I have is lack of heart stopping power. The NSX is not a stop light terror. Fast, yes, but if you're gunna shell out $90-$100k for a brand new one, you should be able to ruin every Mustang Cobra and Corvette C-5 owner's day. As well as make a Viper or Ferrari owner think twice. If you're willing to spend the $10k for the Comptech supercharger, I think you could come very close to doing just that. I give mine 5 stars, cuz I bought it used or should I say "pre-owned". 4 for a brand new one. 290-300hp not enough for $100k.

Strength:

I find that the driving posiotion excellent. Like a Civic around the city but you always know that the outstanding power is always there. Very Fun.

Weakness:

The Price is a bit steep but not too bad considering the enjoyment you will ge oout of the car.

I brought mine in New Zealand for 90,000 us dollars but I believe you can get them cheaper in the states. I would reconmend this car to the driver who wants a solid, reliable, Stylish and of course superfast super car.

Strength:

Fantastic handling at the limit, yet drives like a Honda when you need it to. One of the most civil of the "exotics". I also considered a Porsche 911, but found the NSX brought a bigger grin to my face. The driving position is just right: the throws on the 5 speed are just right and the pedals make for easy heel-toe work.

An Accord in stop-and-go, a wailing banshee when you open it up.

Weakness:

The wheel tire combination needed and was upgraded to 16"/17" front/rear. Tremendous improvement in handling.

Completely recommend the NSX for those discriminating drivers who don't necessarily track their cars, but still want the option there. Rare enough to still turn heads despite no styling change since their introduction, a wonderful all-around performer. No reservations in a 5 star rating.

Good look, mid-engine, reliable like a Civic, awesome handling, Exotic but can be daily driver,

Weakness:

Can have more speed, look a bit dated, too expensive (90K???), no cupholder

Best bang of the buck if you can find a 91-94 copy in the $30's range with low low mileage. Will not recommend to buy a new one, too expensive and style looks old. Wait for the new NSX in 2002.

M3 is slow and way overrated. RX7 is the most fun to drive but unreliable. Supra TT is too heavy. Corvette is just a piece of total junk.. too heavy, cannot turn corner, fisher-price radio buttons. Viper is great fun to drive, very fast, so so interior quality and exterior paint. 911 TT- super fast, it is the car to get!!!! if you can afford it.
