Strength:

First - I have to say this car is definately easy on the eyes! Its bright Red with smoked windows and awesome wheels. I think this car has awesome power for a 3.8 V6. I find it very comfortable compared to the older models. Also, the car is pretty easy on gas. Trunk compartment with no T's will hold lots of groceries (if you stack 'em).

Weakness:

Cop magnet - They see me coming a mile away! The back seats are perfect for 3-7 yrs olds but not too much room for an adult (its a sports car, you have to expect that). SNOW?!?!?!? You have to save some money on the side to get yourself a $400 toyota winter beater to see you thru the winter!

I'm 24 years old and my last car was a 4 door Escort so I was very happy to be behind the wheel of a sports car again. I have owned a few other sports cars, some family units, a truck and a blazer and this car, by far is my favorite. I leave work everyday with a smile on my face when I get in and turn the key. I think this car is the perfect 'chick car, I've got a V6 engine, sharp looks and I get great gas mileage PLUS I can still smoke the tires when a 'rus-tang pulls up beside me.

I am interested in finding other owners to get some ideas on beefin' up my ride a wee bit. I'm interested in pipes and a sport wing for the back. But for now I'm happy with it. If you have a nice ride - send me a photo and some ideas.

1987 Trans-Am (350 small block) of course this V8 will kick up on the Camaro, but I have to admit the gas mileage, looks & handling of the Camaro much better. I also owned a 1994 Talon (4 cylinder) no contest - My Camaro would eat this car alive in every way possible.

Strength:

I opt'd for the SS package W/the free-flow exhaust and it is extremely fast. I drove a friend's 98 with a 3.8, it was peppy, but didn't do 60 in less than 5 sec. It has pretty a pretty good interior (though dated), except for the cheap looking steering wheel. I got the high speed tires, which lets it do 160, but won't let you drive in the lightest of snow. This car is best suited for the southwest. Oh, and the car has a great sound system.

Weakness:

Other than the steering wheel, I thought the dash was a little plasticky.

I paid 24 grand for a fully optioned SS (except for leather). I have had no problems with this car, except for a premature dead battery at 4k miles. I would recommend this car to almost anyone. It is great for someone on a budget (at least a base w/ a V6.)

Similar Products Used:

1967 327 Camaro. My 99 is faster, but I love those gasoline smells and rumble of the 295 horses.
1998 Mustang Convertible. (This wasn't my car, it was my brothers car) This ford had the 4.6 engine. We raced once on a deserted highway, and his ford quit at 131, while my Camaro blew him away doing 150+. Needless to say, don't ever consider getting a Rustang over a Camaro.

Strength:

Decent looks, better interior than most of its competitors, locking t-tops that store in the trunk.

Weakness:

Mechanical failures w/3800 engine, cheap plastic parts that break way too easily, abominable poor weather handling, impossible to see the car's corners.

Window sticker was $20,800
After trade-in and discounts, I paid $15,000 for a V-6 coupe with everything but the 2 extra cyliners to make it a Z28

I bought this car new in 1995 and immediately had paint problems. It seems that the factory forgot to prep a few panels before applying the cheap-to-begin-with paint. Had to take it back (twice) for re-shooting within the first month.

After getting over this, I actually enjoyed the t-tops and the 5 speed in this car for a while. Then the window seals started to leak. What's the point of t-tops if you don't want to use them 'cause your afraid that the leather will get spots? The Bose stereo CD was adequate until you pump up the bass and the rear speakers begin to rattle - loudly.

The novelty of the car's good looks kept things interesting for a while. I was the guy with the "cool car" amongst all of my friends. Too bad it couldn't take most luxury sedans off the line. With all of my options and a passenger, the car was so heavy that it could be described as sluggish at best. If you like the styling (much worse now with the composite headlamps, no?), save up and get a Z28, the coupes just don't cut it.

Once the novelty wore off, the REAL problems began. There's a known issue with the ignition system on the 3800 (95-99) that GM has put out a TSB for but hasn't told the dealers about. So the engine consistently misfires and the dealer charges you $60 to replace one spark plug wire. Then another one goes 1,000 miles later. After repeating this twice, I had to write to Chevy to get them to pay for the dealer to replace the entire set of wires, something they should have been smart enough to do anyway. This problem occurs regularly every 15,000 miles. When the dealer isn't avoiding the fix or lying about some "new design" spark plug wires that'll eliminate your problem, the car will actually run OK (not great, just OK). When this is all over, the three months of wrongly-diagnosed misfires caused the fuel pressure regulator to blow out which neither the dealership nor Chevy will fix for you ($300).

I put nothing but Mobil 1 and super gas in my car for 48,000 miles and it did me no good. GM just builds 'em to fall apart so you can buy another. I was offered as little as $4000 on a trade-in for my low-mileage, well maintained car. There is NO value in buying a regular coupe unless you intend to run it 'till it dies.

I can't recommend this car to anyone. Actually, I chuckle when I see one of my vintage on the street and wonder if it's as much of a lemon as mine was. I'm fortunate enough to have sold mine to a dealership for about $8200 (suckers!) so I got some of my hard-earned dough back. GM doesn't build the best mid-range cars. Hell, my Dad just bought a 2000 Coevette Convertible and it's been in the shop more often than on the road. If you buy one of these (used, now - the Canadian plant for F bodies is now retooled for SUVs - no more new Firebirds or Camaros) look out. They'll aggravate you and cost an arm and a leg to maintain - obviously not what you're looking for in a moderately priced car.

Looks Great, great ride, its a head turner. I love the way the exhaust sounds.

Weakness:

Not a very powerful V8, I was dissapointed with V8's performance. I had a 89 beretta GTU 2.8 V6 that would kill my Camaro. For a big V8 the car is slow off the line. My friend has a 91 mustang lx 4 cylinder 5 speed that will hang with me in first gear, then I start to pull away. That is sad.

I would recommend this car to anyone who can dirve. It isnt hard to handle, it is hard to make it get away form you. All around it is a good car.

Strength:

Robert Simov is a liar. Their are no pacesetter headers, nor power pulleys for the 3.8 V6, although RKSport makes headers, which give a whopping 5 hp. The 3.8 comes with 200 hp factory, even with every mod available (exhaust, headers, ignition, synthetic fluids, supercharger, and if you can manage to find a larger throttle body)you are looking at 300 hp at the crank max. To get 375 hp out of the 3.8 isn't possible. To get 275 hp at the wheels isn't possible even with every available mod. The most you can hope for without a supercharger is 225-235 hp max. The 3.8 is a engine designed for low-end torque, with some moderate breathing qualties until about 4k rpm, when it starts to wheeze. Even the supercharger can't stop the power peak from falling off around 4300-4400 rpm. I just want everyone to know that some people talke crap about stuff they don't know, or lie to impress people. Anyone with any sense knows that heavily modifying a 3.8 is about a dumb buying one of the new chevy HD trucks for gas mileage. Come on, stop handing out false imformation and hopes...

Weakness:

None

Camaros rock, but c'mon, lets get serious. I know all about f-bodies. I had a 95 3.8 camaro and I couldn't get any serious mechanic to tough it besides normal maintenance. No one buys the v6 to mod it out too hard-core, that's why chevy beefed up the v8 with the awesome LS1. If you want to be in the game, then buy enough cylinders to play.

Very strong car, The therd Gen are the best looking camaros besides the classics I think. I drive a 86 Z28 that was an old man's baby, it was taken very good care of. When i bought it it only had 63000 miles on it.It rides nice and Girls love the power more than my little 4 banger that i drove before i bought my Z.it has a 5.0L v8 5speed all stock, and ive won every race ive been in besides when i raced a new z28 he just kick my ass all i saw was tail lights. But ive had no trouble with it starts right up in the morning and besides the converter and the radiator ive put no money in it car and ive had it a year

Weakness:

These cars suck in the rain, and and i don't even try to drive it in the snow

If your looking for speed and looks then the therd generation is just what your looking for.well any camaro will do. I love my camaro and ill never get rid of it unless its to get a corvette witch im looking in to getting soon!

I love my Iroc-Z I went all out got the T-tops and the V8 5.7 Corvette engine. ohh yeah and don't forget the wood molding on the interior. it is a BABE MAGNET. I LOVE this car

Weakness:

not too many the main one is it is bad in the rain and don't buy it if you mind people staring with their jaws wide open.

If you love fast cars with a lot of power go with an Iroc-Z it is the best. Make sure you get the full package or you will be sorry get the power windows locks seats and mirriors. The Iroc-Z is an eye catcher so buy it if you have a chance

I don't think ANYTHING compares to this car. I have raced Mustangs and tons of rice rockets ( asian cars, Hondas) they didn't even come close

Strength:

Looks great. T-tops and 16" rims add to appearance despite it being a base model Camaro. Good power for a V6. Good gas mileage. With a little extra money, you could easily enhance the exhaust or air intake to give more hp. Looks and sounds great! Stereo is awesome for a stock system. Turns heads!

Weakness:

Visibility is poor. Back seat is very tight but it's not a family car so what can you expect. Front seats are low to the point that if you're short, you'll have a tough time seeing over the steering wheel. My wife has that problem so she can't drive it very much (hey, wait...that may not be a weakness after all)

I am very pleased thus far with this car. It looks great and performs nice for a base model. It's a lot of car for little money. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a performance car. The Camaro offers anything you would want. Everyone knows you can get the punch if you want from the Z's and the SS's but you can still have a sporty car for the buck with the V6's.

Similar Products Used:

I used to own a 91 Dodge Dakota with a 318. Can't really compare overall performance but the difference in power was measurable. The V8 of course had more punch off the line but passing seems equal. Believe it or not, my V6 in the Camaro runs at 200 less rpm's than my 91 Dakota.
