Strength:

Looks good.

Weakness:

Service engine light has been on forever (except the first week I bought it). had the sparkplug wires changed out. Didn't work. Got an error code after having an analyzer put on it and I think it's an 8105?? error code which is transmission problem. Called transmission person who said if you get this error need to overhaul the transmission. (I'll wait till it goes completely). Mechanic said a lot of Camaros are coming in with this error. I think he said it was 1995-1997 years?? Also, CD player sucks. Can't play it very long before it gets too hot and would melt the cd if I didn't pull it out when the music starts sounding funny. Can't tell where the end of the hood is.. Have to just drive forward until I lightly touch something to know I'm there.. Seems something is wrong with rearend.. Feels like something hits me in the rear once in awhile... If it's cold out and I start it up I can't get the keys out of ignition until the car warms up.. this is due to the fact can't get it into park. Just won't go..Gotta have it in park before it will release the key. My butt and lower back hurts from the uncomfortable driver seat after driving any distance. Drove 950 miles and felt like I'd been beaten up..

The car is hot looking and I look hot in it and I like it... It took me two years to decide on a car a few years ago and this is the one. (My butt misses the Town Car.)

Strength:

The power, looks and handling of the SS are simply outstanding. The cockpit makeover the Camaro received makes it a pleasure to drive.

Weakness:

Side rear view mirrors are too small (significant blind spots). Can be corrected with add-on wide angle mirrors.

The 2001 SS is an extremely fast machine right off the SLP factory floor. Add the optional cat-back exhaust and the horsepower jumps from 320 to 335.

The Bilstien ultra high performance suspension makes the SS handle very well both as a daily driver and when you want to have some fun (the 1LE suspension is even racier I'm told). There is minimum of body roll under moderate to fast driving conditions on twisty mountain roads.

The Hurst shifter is a bit “notchy” at first, but that goes away as the car breaks in. After about 1k miles the shifter is works very well giving nice short throws.

Unlike the Mustang, the SS sports a functional hood scoop that GM calls “forced air induction”. This feature is identical to the Pontiac and does give some boost a highway speeds.

The Anti Skid Regulation (ASR) system is optional but extremely useful in wet weather or loose traction conditions. The ASR helps prevent a rear end skid. I strongly recommend the additional cost. ASR should be considered a required safety system in this car.

Strength:

looks, POWER!!!!!

Weakness:

hard to swallow that payment every month in the winter while she sits in the garage

A couple of points about the negative reviews I have read:

1. some of these people complaining own V6's...nuff said
2. 310 hp...SUMMER CAR...of course it is bad in the rain and snow
3. I read a review about a Beretta that was faster then his V8...gimme a break...unless it was an early 80's with 150+ K miles on it and 2 flat tires
4. plain interior - obviously never have sat in a Lamborgini or Ferrari
5. extensive engine problems - translation = people driving their V6's as if they were V8's

This car is just plain FUN!!! Mine is bright rally red with T-tops and I get a TON of looks....don't drive like a complete tool and cops are not a problem.
The Monsoon system is pretty impressive for a stock system. 500 watts and 8 speakers is loud enough for me. I wouldn't know about the snow or rain cause she doesn't see those things (kept in my carpeted garage). This car is just plain fun and I highly recommend one. The traction control works well and the only car I have driven that is more responsive is my co-worker's 99 vette.
I do agree with a couple of the common themes that are abound:

1. I EAT PONIES FOR BREAKFAST. Straight up stock against my buddies 2000 mustang GT...poor guy, I made him wet his pretty leather interior....hehehehe

2. Not for a STUPID teenager (not all teens are created equal)...too much power, they WILL kill themselves

Strength:

Look, ride, interior.

Weakness:

Tons of mechanical problems. Crapy in the snow, poor rear leg room. One of the worst sound systems ever.

This car is good for any die hard camaro fans. The look and the ride is nice. But I have already seen problems with it within my first year of owning it. I am proud to say I am selling for a Grand prix.

Strength:

Power, Handling, Reliability,Ride Comfort

Weakness:

Insurance, Gas consumption

When I was ready to part with the Sunbird I knew I wanted a 'sports car' but wanted winter drivability too. So I turned my eye to Japanese offerings finally deciding on a Supra. After two months of joyless and frankly uncomfortable driving I sold the piece of junk and decided right there I would never buy anything but GM. So as summer was ending a dealer wanted to get the Z28 off the lot before winter and I grabbed it. Hasn't let me down once yet. Powerful enough to get me into some serious trouble but refined enough to be driven on even the most icy roads. I drove this beast right through the winter with ZERO troubles, no hard starts, no sliding, no spinning, nothing but reliable GM. The inside is spacious, trunk area is fair considering and the ride is incredible. Highly recommended. And remember if anything but another F-Body and Corvette claims to be able to take a Z, the Z they're referring to wasn't racing them ^_^

Strength:

Looks great black paint bright red interior. Comfortable to ride in. A lot of power for a 3.1 V6. With an atomatic overdrive. All gauges fully illuminated. Can get a wheel running 30mph in second (tires p295-50r15). Great acceleration. Average about 21 miles per gallon. The handleing of this car is superb. You can fly around corners without a worry.

Weakness:

It came from Michigan and had some rust one the body. Taillight bulbs are a pain in the @$$ to change. No spare tire. Back seats are uncomfortable for passengers(no leg room).

I love my camaro. It has great handleing and enuff power to suite me. I haven't had any major breakdowns with it and it has ran great. Would not recomend for a begging driver. With the costs of insurance being pretty high.

Strength:

This car handles very well. It also is very fast. I run all over GT's and Cobras all day long. I have 92,000 miles on it and I haven't had a problem yet.

Weakness:

High performance upgrades tend to be pretty costly. The car rattles when going over bumps or railroad tracks, but I guess that is normal for a car with 90 something thousand miles on it.

I have had lots and lots of fun with this car. I know it is a 94 but I still turn heads at stop lights. It is a great car to cruise around town in and also fun to have that occasional street race. I would highly recomend one of these cars to anyone wanting to have a good time in a dependable high performance car.

In my opinion I wouldn't compare it to anything. It is in a class of its own.

Strength:

Exterior slickness...

Weakness:

I honestly don't think anyone who has done a review of an SS Camaro (especially the 2000) has really owned an SS. I have never been so dissapointed and downright pissed off in my life. The rear-seats are embarassing even for little kids, the odds of you safely changing lanes due to the blind spots are slim to none, the windshield wiper for some reason goes outside of the windshield, handling is a nightmare, the shifter screeches like crazy going from 2nd to 3rd, the dashboard already has 5, yes 5, long and deep cracks after less than a year, the exterior red paint is peeling away already, the interior leather seats are ripping apart, the spedometer is 7 mph off scale, the radiator hose keeps melting over and over for whatever reason, the clutch went out after only 5 months which was soon replaced, and worst of all... I was beaten at a stoplight by my best friend's 1989 Mazda RX-7. How pathetic is that? I'm not the only one experiencing these problems as I have read and heard of numerous other people in my shoes.

I will buy a Dodge, Saturn, or even now a Ford Mustang... But never again will I even think of a Chevrolet. Their service is cheap, this Camaro is an embarrassment to the tradition, and the performance is highly over-rated. I'm getting pissed off just writing this review.
Don't even consider buying one of these pieces of junk!

Model Reviewed: 3.4 L Convertible

Strength:

I have always been a Camaro fan and I don't believe I will ever stray from Chevrolet. As far as styling goes the car is a work of art. They should have never done away with the 4 headlight design!!! There are many aftermarket add-ons available for the 4th Gen. which makes it easy to turn a regular V6 into a V8 killer! I have had the car for about one and a half years and rarely does it leave my shop. Even with it beefed up the V6 still gets suitable economy. I dont know what people are talking about when they say that parts are so expensive, when I bought the car it had been totaled with front and rear damage. The only thing I saw as being overly expensive was the deck lid which cost $600. Even though it is fiberglass this is unreal!!! Personally I would recomend the 4th Gen. to anyone.

Weakness:

Even though I am very pleased with the car it does have many weaknesses. I said before there are many aftermarket add-ons but they are very very hard to find. The top leaks, and squeeks, and when driving the wind howls around it very badly. You think blind spots are a problem with the coupe, try a convertible. Forget turning around to backup all you can see is the top and a sorry excuse for a rear window. Its hard to judge distance too, when it looks like your just about to hit something, fact is you are about 3 feet away from it. If it was not a convertible this would probably be the only problem I have with my Camaro.

Like I said before the cars only problem is visibility. Comfort is also a slight problem, but the driving experience, handling, styling, and power out-weigh these disabilities.

Similar Products Used:

1998 Monte Carlo Z34:This car would probably waste mine if it were not beefed up. The Monte is much more comfortable on long hauls but not quite as exciting to drive as the Camaro. Camaro's suspension is a whole lot more stiff than the other, and has a tendency to make you feel like an Indy Car driver. Hands down Camaro WINS!!!
