This car has the speed that I need. After driving a 96 z28, and jumping in this hot rod, there is no comparison. Learning to drive the 6 speed efectively is quite a feat for me. Now, I never worry about not having enough get up and go whenever I need it. I love the simple one button control for removing the top, (quite a difference from reomoving the t-tops off my z) This car will turn heads any time. The ss package comes complete with scoop on the hood (it looks mean) and dualed out exhaust from the factory. The 12disk cd changer in the trunk, and controls on the stering wheel make it feel like a luxery car. I got mine for 27K, boy do I know how to bargin!
Weakness:
Not exactly a vehicle condusive to carrying a lot of people! But then again, what sports car is?! I would reccomend this if you have the need for speed and attention. Similar Products Used: 96 z28, the ss is no comparison... beats it hands down |

Camaro SS
Strength:
The LS-1 all aluminum engine is "just what the doctor ordered" plenty of good power for a begining retrofit engine car. The acceleration and power band is balanced tthroughout the rpm range without hesitation. The instrument cluster is definitely easier to read with a new redesigned tachometer and you now can actually see with the headlights when driving at night compared to the 1997. The seats appeared to be much more comfortable and the 4L80 E automatic transmission is a great advantage when coupled to the LS-1. The exterior clearcoat is better now then before and the hood scoop makes the car a stand-out. The regular seek& scan cassette with just the normal four speaker system is excellent and wouldn't ask for anything more. I ordered this car the way I wanted but wished later I would have added the 1 LE suspension as I still beleive this car deserves the added suspension. My next SS will have this if available.
Weakness:
Brake rotors warp under hard acceleration and may need replacing if used like this on a daily basis. The F-1 tires are really too damn expensive for replacement . The rear suspension needs to be planted more under hard acceleration,it gets out of shape easily with this much power. Recommend the 1 le option for the real performance enthusiast. Insurance is 2nd pain in the butt besides having to pay Kansas Personal property taxes on the car. I would have liked to have cruise control but the way Chevrolet puts the interior packages together you have no choice to pick and choose ,you take one or the other and get it ALL . I don't want all those power robbing accessories. I paid $ 22800 for the SS and felt like it was a buy of the 90's for horsepower vs dollar figures . I would recommend this car for only someone over the age of 25 and had self-control with a clean prior years driving record and one who could afford a Valentine radar/laser detector. Why ? because you are going to have fun and just like sex when you aren't married yet you need a little protection. The car is actually awesome for a daily driver. I drive mine daily and have over 37,000 miles on it. Similar Products Used: This car is day and night difference between my older 1995 Z-28 and my 1990 IROC-Z. It's better than a regular 1991 Pontiac Trans-Am and by far better than any other v- 8 model sports car for the dollar amount. |

This car is fast and handles like a dream. If you want poeple to look at you and comment when you pull up to a light get this car.
Weakness:
Interior styling leaves something to be desired, sound system not up to par, but I'm an audiophile and put in a $6000 aftermarket system, but it's a decent ststem if you just like listening to the radio. In addition to this car I have a 91 Ferrari testarossa a Lexus GS400 and a jeep grand cherokee at my house. To be perfectly honest this car is the mose fun to drive, no s*@#. It's quick and responsive. I have all the SLP options in addition to the SS package and with the bilstein shocks and eibach springs this thing handles like a dream. I have 275 40zr tires all around and they really get the job done. Short of spending $100,000 you're not going to find many cars that can get a .92 on the skid pad. Talking about fast this thing is underrated at 340hp with an aftermarket exhaust I'm looking at atleast 350 at the engine and around 310 rear wheel horse power. I paid $31,000 for this car new and I'm telling you it's the best value you can get for a car. When I got this car I was looking for something to tool around in on the weekends and boy can you get some looks it's great stuff. I now have $15,000 to put into aftermarket mods that will bring the car upto 600hp and .95 on the skid pad. If you're looking for a race car here's where to start. for a final Lingenfelter moded price of $46,000 I have an american car that is well into competition with a porsche 911 turbo and the Lamborgini SV roadster. I really can't say enough good things about this car, except that the monsoon sound system must be changed. If you're looking to do some aftermarket stuff here are my recomendations. MB quart Q series components front, MB quart reference premium co-axials rear fill, 2 phoenix gold 4600 amps, 2 eclipse 88120DVC 12" woofers, Eclipse 55060 head unite with GPS navigaiton feature and phone hook up feature. A 1 farad capacitor is a must with this ststem. Make sure you get a good box for the system a profetional job is a must or this system will not sound as good as it could. Camaro Z28
Strength:
Powerful 305hp, Great cornering and handling, Rips past anything commonly found tooling around town, Love the engine roar
Weakness:
Interior styling based on GM stock. Could use some upgrade in the dials (white faced ???), Way too much BASS on the stereo for non-rap lovers (I turned down the BASS day one) Paid $24,800 for a loaded car with T-Tops (a must). The car looks hot and has performance to match. The best part of owning one is the constant attempts by owners of sports cars priced two to three times as much trying to get a chance to see what the Z28 can do. It is so satisfying to see some poor schmuck in a Porsche or Corvette flooring it at the lights to justify his paying way too much for a performance car..... Keep 'em coming. Any one looking for a powerful sports car with a bargain basement price can do no better. The Mustang lacks power and handling, the Firebird is garish in comparison. Z-28 Camaro
Strength:
I love the awesome power that this car produces! The handling on the car is amazing. The stock stereo system in the car sounds better then half the stuff people spends hundreds of dollars on aftermarket stereo stuff to make sound good. The look and feel of the car are perfect and it turns many heads, especially ones of Mustang drivers wishing they could have one just like it!
Weakness:
The only thing that I don't like about the car is the handling when it rains. I love driving the car fast and I know when it rains, that won't be possible...it has to much power and all the tires wanna do in the rain is spin, I can spin them through all 6 gears! I paid $13,000 for this beast and it's worth every buck of it! I couldn't believe the power it had when I first test drove it. I knew it was me! I can take curvy back roads in the car doing speeds in excess of 80+ mph and the car just sticks in the road, it's AMAZING! Also adding flowmaster exhaust and a K&N airfliter kit, should be your first steps in making the car that much faster! The stock exhaust sounds great but adding the Flowmaster makes it sound 10 times better and there wasn't a mustang around that sounded better! The car never lost to anything stock except for another newer Z-28 Camaro, but all the rice burners and Junktangs couldn't hang with this powerhouse of a car! This car is truly worth the buy for looks, driving, and power! It can't be beat! Similar Products Used: 1988 Camaro |

FAST! 0-60 in 5.5 seconds with the SS model. Nearly comparable to a Corvette for about half the price. Great looks...besides the headlights which look like a chrysler. Interior has mediocre styling.
Weakness:
Poor quality compared to Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc. Poor handling in my opinion. I do not recommend simply because it does not keep it's value. If you have money to waste however, then go right ahead and buy it..it's a fun car for about a year....then the problems start happening... Similar Products Used: MUSTANG SVT COBRA |

Strength:
Awesome looks, handling and overall feel. I fell in love with the 1998 Camaro at first sight and drove it for ten months without any kind of regrets. It was fun to drive, gorgeous to look at, the sound system was incredible (and I do like to crank it up a bit) and overall, the car handled like a dream. The T-tops were easy for one person to put on and take off. The split back seats folded down individually which resulted in an incredible amount of space available for carrying packages, groceries and other cargo, as well as allowing extremely easy access from either the front seat or the rear deck.
Weakness:
After driving it for approximately 10 months, it burned to the ground in less than 10 minutes. The automobile was still under full factory warranty coverage, but the dealer told me that it was covered bumper-to-bumper, EXCEPT for a fire. My insurance company would only cover what is known as the "book value" of the car, which we all know is considerably less than the replacement value, leaving me to absorb the rest of the cost. The insurance company finally determined that the fire was entirely the fault of General Motors so they subrogated my comprehensive claim to them, which GM eventually paid. GM offered nothing in the way of compensation for my financial loss, not even an apology. Due to my own ignorance of internal combustion engines, I cannot detail exactly how and why the fire started, but I was told that my automobile was not the first 1998 Camaro that had been delivered to that salvage yard with damage similar to mine that appeared to have been caused by a fire that was not a direct result of a traffic accident. I would especially hesitate to recommend this vehicle because the fire burned so hot and spread so quickly that I was barely able to get out of the vehicle without injury. If my grandchildren had been seat-belted in the rear seat, I do not believe that I would have been able to get them out of the vehicle in time to avoid serious injury or possibly death. I paid approximately $23,000 for the car which was equipped with most options available for the V6. Between my down payment and payments over a ten month period toward a thirty-six month installment loan, less the amount left after the insurance company paid the balance of the note to GMAC, the car cost me approximately $850.00 per month to drive. Also, due to the comprehensive payoff of $15,000, which was reimbursed by General Motors to my insurance company, my insurance rates skyrocketed and will remain artificially high for some time to come. Additionally, if the loan on the vehicle had been for 60 months instead of 36, i would still be paying for a car that, through no fault of my own, no longer exists. Similar Products Used: The 1998 Camaro was the first Camaro I have ever owned or even driven. I immediately understood the appeal of the vehicle, in both looks and handling, and could understand on some level why a lot of Camaro owners are so loyal that they refuse to even consider the idea of driving anything else. I now own a 1996 Corvette which I am very satisfied with, but to be honest, I still miss the Camaro a great deal. |
