The Mustang is available either as a coupe or convertible. Each is available with a V6 or a V8. The 210-hp 4.0L V6 carries over unchanged. The 4.6L V8 receives an increase in power - producing 315-hp for 2010. A five-speed manual transmission is standard; a five-speed automatic is optional. Strength:

Its a wonderful car. While it may be the V6 version, it still provides the speed I like.
The sound system is rather good for an under $20,000 car.
The car handles rather well, except for the wide turns that occurs once in a while.
A fun car to drive.
The rear seat room is rather spacious for a sports coupe.
The exhaust system sure doesn't sound like a factory exhaust.

Weakness:

The car has a rev limiter to keep you from going to the redline. Not that the car isn't fast enough, it just keeps racing reserved for the GTs, Saleens, and Cobras.(That is unless you practice a dangerous shifting technique: When you are driving, get the RPMS high in first gear and when you shift to second, slam the clutch all the way in and rev the engine. If done correctly, you should get into the redlines. Just be sure you release the clutch at 5,000 RPMS or you'll blow your engine!)

The cup holders on the manual models are terribly placed. The lower cupholder is too wide to put a can in and the cupholder that can fit a can is right in the sticks way. Therefore every time you shift to second or fourth, the stick hits the can, causing some drink to be knocked out.

A rather fun car to drive. In fact, there is barely any other car I would want to trade this for. (Except for a Porsche 928 S4, a 1972 Pontiac GTO, a Ferrari 288 GTO, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GS-R, or a Mazda Miata.)

Similar Products Used:

All the other sports coupes are advertised at around $20,000 and aren't as fast as the Mustang 3.8. In fact, only the Camaro can be considered as good a deal as the Mustang, and you know how much insurance is on the Camaro!

Strength:

The coupe is pretty fast at high speed, had it flying at 110 mph and it was begging for more. I know it will go much faster than 120 mph easy. It looks great, especially in the laser red color. I get looks constantly when driving around. It is definitely a girl getter. Every girl that has ever sat in my car has said she loved the vehicle. Every car so far that has attempted to race me has lost. Although it may not be up to GT speeds, it is certaintly at and pass V6 speeds. It looks even better with the crome pony rims in place. Gas is o.k. when driving at normal speeds.

Weakness:

Only had it for 5 months and already had to take it in for service. It was making a knoking noise during acceleration. It appears to be a problem with the acceleration cable. Seats could be a little more confortable, lumbar support would be nice. Seatbelt straps has a tendency to slip out of holder placed on the seat, can get irritating at times. Radio is cheasy looking but sounds o.k. You may want to put in your own system. Speedomiter should go up to 150 mph fot the V6 coupes, the maximamum of 120mph listed is not high enough. Guzzles gas at high speeds, but who cares when you need to win.

A pretty good car for anyone wanting to attract attention. Excellent for the guys to look good in and impress the ladys. Women will look even finer when driving this car around. Overall it seems to be a pretty good car so far. Would suggest adding bigger and better rims to make the car look even badder. You can get a mutang for much cheaper than what I payed for it. It is worth the price. DO NOT BUY IT FROM CAL WORTHINTON FORD,IN MY OPINION THEY HAVE A VERY POOR SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.

Model Reviewed: to 93 Mustang

Strength:

Cheap parts: Easy to repair
Body Structure: Crashworthiness, int he early 80's was in top 5 in class and REALLY is safe!
The EFI (87-93) 4 cyl manual trans cars get good gas milage, 23-27 mpg on average city-highway driving. If you dont, you have an engine computer problem. As a guy who maintains his own and kids' cars.. I have bought SEVEN of these since the mid-eighties because they are safe, reliable, dependable and cheap.

Weakness:

The Electronic Ignition module located on the side of the distributor needs to be relubricated every 3 to 5 years, IM NOT KIDDING. The problem is that the heat conductive grease between the module and Dist dries out with age and the module overheats. Use only the appropriate conductive "grease" available at any auto parts store. Do this and the module will last forever. AND it typically fails when you try to start the engine.. California lawsuit notwithstanding, it probably will NEVER fail on the highway.

Traction in slippery conditions: poor but controllable and telegraphs to driver well. DO NOT allow tires to wear to wear bars and DO NOT buy economy tires. Beware of the traction control rear axle (usually on GT), it will kick the rear end out on turns in slippery conditions.

PARENTS! Read this... If you want an economical and safe car for your young drivers AND to teach them how to drive properly, this is it.
This model has saved two of my kids from serious injury or worse in crashes.
The first was my oldest who planned to borrow a friend's civic for a few days to drive to work, I convinced him to drive my beater mustang. The next day, a SEMI changed lanes on the freeway and t-boned the Mustang pushing it sideways at 50 mph for about 150 feet before he hit the brakes and the car ran headfirst into the concrete divider. If he had been driving the Civic, the rear axle would have knuckled under and it would have rolled up into a ball of metal. My son walked away and, in fact, drove the car home.

Youngest kid: ran off road, overcompensated, ran off other side.. and rolled over twice. Was not wearing seat belts.. he and passenger crawled through broken windshield and walked home, top held at windshield pillars nicely though it was flattened from there to taillights.

If you dont believe me check with your Ins agent on the Personal Injury Insurance rates for the 79-93 4 cyl.

This car is sooo pretty!!! Mine is Royal Red, with black leather, and a black top. This is the last year with the 5.0 HO engines, and I love it. My friend has a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible, and I spank him everytime we race. He even says that mine is faster. I've done many mods, and the price is really cheap. Email me if you want to see pictures or have any questions. tiernorey@hotmail.com

Strength:

I LOVE my car. It is very nice looking and drives very well. I only have a V6, but there is enough power. Atleast enough to beat those hotshot civics and so forth..lol. I think the interior is great too...going from the nifty cup holder to the seats (which I find very comfortable). All around...I find that it is a great, reliable car.

Weakness:

Well, it could always use some more power. The thing is...it seems hard to find performance parts for V6 stangs. It seems that most parts are made for GT's and higher models. That has been a little frustrating. Also, I have a manual trans and the gears seem to be far from each other. I have driven other sports car and the gears were not nearly as far away from each other. Last but not least..Mustangs aren't that great in bad weather...but I expected that. So, it's all good. I still love my car

I would definitely recommend this car for anyone who likes sports cars. Sure..there are some weaknesses, but what car doesn't have weaknesses. Just be prepared to Be Careful in bad weather. I was some what leary of buying my mustang because I didn't know how it would be in the rain and snow...but I am satisfied. It is a great car and I am very glad I bought it.

Strength:

Dependability, power, smooth ride, fuel economy.

Weakness:

cheap plastic interior parts. Tends to squeak and rattle after about 40,000 mi.

WHAT A CAR!

I've had my baby for almost 2 years and 50,000 mi. I take immaculent care of her, and she takes great care of me! Not a single problem other than a recall on my cruise control since I've had it.

And talk about power! I've smoked them all: cameros, tricked out 5.0's, mitsu VR4s, a vette or two and even a Saleen! This car is FAST, gets close to 30mpg on the freeway, and is a blast to drive. Even after 50k, the car still rides tight with little or no body flex in corners. In fact the chassis is soo tight, I was able to get all 50k out of the stock ZR rubber!

I very highly recommend this car to anybody who enjoys a little attention, dependability, great highrevving power, good gas economy, and a great ride.

Could you ask for anything more?

P.S.- Value too, only paid 23grand (new with 1 mi on it) out the door!

Strength:

I love the looks of the 1998 stangs. Much better than the boxy 2000's. The 4.6 GT isn't bad but they should have stayed with famous 5.0. The MACH 460 sound system is amazing. If money is not an option, go for the COBRA!!!

Weakness:

Watch out when driving in the rain. Tends to slip around some. My stang happens to be the bad apple of the 1998's. Since buying the car in June of 1998, I have had to take it in for warranty repairs at least once a month for the past 2 years (totaling around 30 times). Since March of this year (2000), Ford has had to replace the clutch and transmission 4 times and counting. However, many of my friends have stangs with little to no problems at all.

Based on the fact that the Ford Mustang is the orig. American pony car, I would recommend getting one. They are a blast to drive, and I am always getting compliments on how good the car looks and sounds. I just happened to buy a very rare "lemon" one. If you want the feel of an American sports car make sure you get the 5 speed. Automatics take the fun out driving. I don't recommend getting the sissy V-6. Why get a sports car that does not run like a sports car. The extra power is worth the extra money...especially when you next to a camaro!!!!

Safety(This car is rock solid just in case you get into an accident)

Reputation(This car is an American Legend like the Corvette)

Weakness:

Cup holder(But who cares about this really)

Overall, Iam very satisfied with my Mustang. Ive had mine for about 5 months and I love it. Its really hard to lose with this car(especially with the 5-speed). The new Mustangs are definitely reborn. Go with the stang if you want an affordable "sports car" that actually feels like one.

Chevy Camaro/Firebird,TransAm=Good power but not as refined, car design is primitive.
Toyota Celica=Not enough torque.
Mitsubishi Eclipse=Cant compare. This car is straight out ugly.

HEAD TURNER!! As I came home from school today every person that drove on the road beside me turned their heads in awe. Very nice power for v6 engine. Raced my dad in our 1999 Bimmer 328i..won!! Who needs a $40,000 dollar car when you can get faster, and in my opinion, a better car!? A few mods and I will be taking out z28's, firebirds, etc. at my whim. Great stereo sound, nice 16 inch wheels (although I will be upgrading to 18's).

Weakness:

Needs a little more throat to it, but adding duals should take care of that. Cop magnet!! I highly suggest a radar/lazer detector! Tad more power, although no complaints here;)

So far I've had this car for three days and it has treated me very well. I've already beaten many cars in races that have been 3-4 times more expensive than mine, all while still having better looks. One of the few complaints that I have is that there has been some condensation in the left rear tail light, but Ford is fixing that tommorow.Buy one of these cars and feel like a God on the road.
