Strength:

Nice body styling, good quality, nice ride, great value.

Weakness:

Are there any?

Ford has really got their act together in recent years. The Mustang Coupe is a really nice car at a great price. For about $20,000 I got a beautiful well-designed leather interior, metallic clear coat finish, halogen projector headlamps, a very smooth shifting transmission and a healthy V6 under the hood. I don't really race much, but I get low 8's/high 7's in the 0-60 department (not bad for a V6 automatic!) and I get turned heads everywhere I go. We also own a 1999 Prelude, which we paid $27,000 for and it just can't keep up looks-wise or performance-wise. Neither does my sister's Celica GTS with a manual tranny! I'm getting comparable gas mileage to our Prelude, and a better ride. Two thumbs up!

This is the first and last Mustang I will ever purchase. Mine is an 89-cobra clone with a couple of aftermarket parts. The car has about 120,000 miles, very clean interior for a car over 10 years, and a straight body. I bought the car for $3,700. The car came with a custom paint job, cobra grill, cobra emblems, 17” cobra chrome rims, cobra 3” hood, Saleen wing with functional brake light, Flow Master exhaust, K & N air filter, 4.10 gears, Clarion EQ and Pioneer CD Player which some punk stole from the car L. Kelly Blue Book value on this car at the moment is $4,500. With all the nice little modification, I may have over paid for the car by a couple of hundred dollars. The 4.10 gears are good for someone who wants to get from stop sign to stop sign in a heartbeat. These gears are also well suited for engines pushing out tons of horsepower. They are ill suited for highway driving or stock engines with no modification. So with that in mind I am currently in the process of having the gear swapped out which for parts & labor is costing me $500. The car was also in need of a tune up, H-pipe with cats, oil change, 4 new tires, brake work, shocks, and wheel alignment. Had I not know a few people the total value for the car plus parts that I have replaced would have been pushed to well over $6,000. Overall the car turns heads wherever I go. I have even caught Import and GM boys taking second looks at the car. :-) There are tons of aftermarket parts for 1987-1992 Mustangs. My only advice would be if you were looking at late model Mustangs make sure you have someone who knows cars inside and out or take it to a mechanic. My mistake was that I needed a car quick and I didn’t take the proper time to thoroughly look over the car and calculate the cost of ownership for this particular car. I plan upon keeping this car for a very long time unless someone makes me a decent offer. :-)

Looks Good

Weakness:

Mechanically unsound vehicle with even worse service backing it up

I'm writing to inform you of a MAJOR problem I've had not only with my 1997 Ford Mustang (VIN# 1FALP4048VF124529) but also with a Ford dealership, specifically Best Ford in Nashua, New Hampshire, and Ford Customer (dis)Service. I brought my car to Best Ford in Nashua, NH, for a 60k mile checkup, and also to check out a coolant leak I was experiencing. When I got my car back, not only did they charge me $500 for the 60k check and plugs, but they also told me there was nothing wrong concerning my coolant. I told them to recheck the problem and this time they came back to me telling me I needed the head gaskets changed. When I finally agreed to have the gaskets done (first they wanted to charge me over $2000 for it, but then agreed to $1075), I drove the car out of the lot to find out my cruise control and AC didn't work. I found out the connector to the cruise control system was cracked almost in half causing the cable to disengage from the cruise control system. After arguing for WEEKS on the issue with the service managers, the district service manager, and even the owner of the dealership, they finally agreed to pay to have the cruise control fixed. After that, I brought the car home and let it sit in my lot for a few months only driving it once every couple of weeks. (My parents gave me their 1991 Toyota Camry to use since they bought a 2000 Acura themselves). I then received from Ford a recall notice stating the Timing Gasket Cap was faulty and that the symptom was that it leaked coolant. At that point I checked the coolant level in my car and realized that the coolant level was still depleting! I brought the car back to Best Ford and they argued with me that the car was an old car, that 2000 miles had been driven on the car since they last worked on it, and anything could have happened in that time period. (Of course they never bothered changing the Timing Gasket Cap during my visit when I originally had the problem). They basically stated that on an old car anything can go and obviously the head gaskets AND timing gasket cap were BOTH faulty. I finally got the timing gasket cap fixed under warranty from a Lincoln Mercury dealership in Framingham, MA.

My problems didn't stop there. Not 2500 miles after getting the warranty service and oil change done at the Lincoln Mercury dealership in Framingham, the engine seized up while I was on the highway. I brought it back to Lincoln Mercury in Framingham, and after the Ford engineer investigated the problem they agreed to pay for parts and service to install a new engine into the car. (They said antifreeze had leaked into the engine probably due to the problems I had just experienced the last 4000 miles). At least the Lincoln Mercury dealership in Framingham finally did one thing right in all my escapades. However, they said Ford Corporation refused to pay for the rental car I needed to rent while the Ford engine was being replaced and they also refused to pay for the headgasket job I had completed not 4,000 miles ago!

So, needless to say, I'm out thousands of dollars and even if I want to sell the car now, I'll be one of the luckiest guys in the world to receive even HALF of what I originally paid for it.

I've never been treated so rudely (by FORD not Lincoln/Mercury) in all my life from any corporation that ever wanted my business (including the owner of Best Ford dealership in Nashua, NH). When I went to Ford dealership with my problems, they stated that my car was an old car and that anything at any time could go wrong with it (the car was 2.5 years old at the time) so they were fully justified in fixing anything that went wrong with the car and charging full price for it because it was the age of the car and not their workmanship or a faulty car that was causing the problem. Also, when I told them I was driving a 1991 Toyota Camry with 190,000 miles on it and it never had any problems other than regular wear and tear on it, they stated "Toyotas are better cars that's why!".

Guess what I'm driving now? A 1992 Toyota Camary with 103,000 miles on it and it runs better than the Mustang ever did. I will NEVER buy American again and America has FORD to thank for it!

What you get for what you pay for! There are few deals that equal the Ford Mustang. Acceleration and handling are excellent for a car straight off the dealer's lot. I constantly get asked "is it a GT?" So people must not really notice a differnce.

Weakness:

Limited seat adjustment, no fog lamp option for the base Mustang Coupe.

Who are the derelicts that complain about deficiency in horsepower? Hello people! These are stock production vehicles, and the roads are NOT a race track. Any car can be made to race - go and do that if that's what you want, but don't expect too much from ANY showroom car. The mustang V6 has plenty of power and torque for street use, and I can not only transport myself in comfort and style, but I can have a little fun, too. Here's a list of things I've compiled concerning my contact with some of these street "racers" - ie, Camaros, Firebirds, Celicas and the like:
1. Mustangs look better.
2. Mustangs are a better value.
3. Mustangs cost less to operate (esp. gas & insurance).
4. Mustangs are more comfortable, use space better.
5. Other car owners are surprised I only have a V6.

You are forced to compare Mustang to cars costing $10-20,000 more, and that doesn't seem fair, does it?

Strength:

Great power, last year of the 5.0 (94-95) newer body.
Looks great, handles great and very fun to drive.
Camaro killer, easy to modify.

Weakness:

Fuel economy-but not really that bad, its rated 17 city, 24mpg highway.
Other than that NONE.
Headers are hard to do though, get new bolts!!!!!

If you are looking for a 94-98 mustang gt, then get a 94 or 95 because they have to 5.0 and it is cheaper to modify, plus the car will cost less to.
IF you want a Cobra get 96 or up, 96-98 305hp stock!!!
If you are desiding between a camaro or a mustang
GET A MUSTANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAMARO'S ARE UGLY- IF YOU REALLY WANT A CAMARO BUY A FIREBIRD THEY LOOK SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

1976 corvette stingray(I own)-Mustang is faster, but the vette is still amazing.
Drove and raced 2001 camaro z28's, they can't keep up, they are slow!!!slowmarro's.
97 firebird T/A- fast but automatic, i like the feel of my car better.
94 cobra, supped up, and stock 96 cobra-they cost more than a gt, but if you are going to keep it stock get a cobra, but if you want to soup it up get a gt, you can make a gt faster than a cobra for the amount that the cobra costs more.

Decent amount of power, LOVE THE TORQUE! stiff suspension. Clean acceleration. GREAT sounding engine. If you know where Highway 1 is, i LOVE driving on it, (fast of course). And styling on it is great.

I have driven this car since 8/23 (about 9 months now) and love the thing. Not modded at all. Although i do plan on adding some sound components. As for the car itself, there are no real problems. Just keep an eye on that tranny, and don't plan on parallel parking in this bad boy :<|>6 months to 1 year

Power, Power, did I say Power? Styling. The new larger side and hood scoops are too cool. 17 inch new style wheels. Mach 460 Sound. Leather interior. New independant rear suspension.

Weakness:

None to mention. This car was not purchased becuase of its huge back-seat nor was it purchased becuase you want great fuel economy! Come on!!!!

This is one hell of a great off-the-lot sports car. And you can't beat the price! The new independant rear suspension should and does take care of the handling problems. This car corners great. I have driven it on highway 29 between Calistoga and Clearlake CA, and it held the road like a true champ. I have driven and rented Boxters, other Mustang Verts, etc, etc. I would recommend this car to anyone older than 30 as it is too much for a young guy to handle. (not to mention the insurance cost!) This car is a chick magnet! Mine is silver with the black top and charcoal leather interior. Great Value! Go Mustang!

Strength:

Good looks, nice sounding exhaust, a real head turner. Hey, it's a Mustang, right?

Weakness:

Cheap interior (rattles, lots of plastic), poor 1960s type handling, just barely adequate brakes, poor acceleration at highway speeds.

I went from a 2000 Cougar (2.5l V6) to this larger V6, both cars automatic. The Mustang has more low end torque and accelerates off of the line much faster than the Cougar did, and has a much better sound. It also looks a lot better than the Cougar, and a lot of people look on the street or stop and admire it when it's parked. Now for the bad news, though it looks real fast, it handles like a pig. This winter I drove the speed limit whenever there was any snow or rain, despite $800 worth of Blizzak ice/snow tires and so called traction control (this feature is dangerous, it disengages without warning and you can easily end up doing a 360 or worse on an icy road). The Cougar with the same type wheels and tires tracked like a dream and stuck to the road no matter what I did to it, even at speeds over 100mph. The Mustang feels like its trying to get into the ditch and I keep having to fight it keep it on the road. Since summer rolled around and the snow is gone, the car is a lot more fun to drive (I've had it on the track at 180kph, it's limited there, but handling is scary at that speed). The Cougar had far better brakes, and despite the smaller engine had much better acceleration at highway speeds (though 0-60 is much quicker on the Mustang). If I had known then what I know now, I'd have gone for an other Cougar. If you really want a sports car get the GT or anything with the better suspension, but otherwise this is really a city car. Also, at 6'3" I'm glad I got the electric seat, the base seats don't go back far enough (I tried a buddy's car) and there's really no way to get anyone over 6 years old into the back seat.

Strength:

Strengths would be the styling and power. I think the 2001 GT models are on of the best designs ever. The power is also great.

Weakness:

Weakness are the fake hood and side scoops. Come on Ford....if you are going to put them on the car at least make them functional. Also, you increased the horsepower, but only because the car weights much more than the 1994-1998's. MORE POWER to hang with those GM's.

I previously owned a 1990 GT coupe. I really loved the handling and power that came with that car. After college I told myself that I would eventually purchase a new stang (and I did). Anyways, I absolutly love this car. Not only is it a head turner, but I have the power whenever needed as well.

I think this car really does compare or even better its competitors. The styling again is awesome.

Price, Styling, Power, Mood Adjuster, Price, Stress Reliever, Price, Its not an Import (did I mention price?), It gets you thru the middle age crazies, Comfortable and fun on trips and gets great gas mileage.

Weakness:

You can wash and wax it in about an hour...detailing a car is my idea of fun and the fun dosent last that long.

Ok, ok, this Chevy gal admits it..I LOVE THIS CAR!! This is my first convertible and I may never go back to a hardtop. I can be in the worse mood in the world but 5 min in this car and it totally goes away. The sound system is fabulous (Mach) and I have to watch my speed or Ill be up to 85 quick as a wink when getting up on the freeway. And handling, its almost like you just think about what you want to do and she does it. We take her on long trips and can ride all day without feeling tired on the leather seats. We have a Harley, and this gets you in the wind, but if it starts raining or gets too hot or cold, you just put the top up and your in comfort. I dont care for the new "European" styling on the new cars but I needed a dependable ride. The Mustang still looks American to a degree and its cute (sorry guys..but thats what attracts the ladies) and it has enough power to get out of someones way if they try to run over you. Im an old broad but I still get looks from the guys...woo hoo!! If you get one, get the convertible...you wont reget it!!
