No clock!??

I don't know that I would have bought one if not for the test drive. I was looking at a TT as well and the dealer didn't let me drive it. I'm glad he didn't cause I may have missed this gem. What a car. I'd been driving a Z for 6 years and the S2000 is better in every way (save cargo capacity). It's quicker, more nimble and gives much better road feel. The response of this car is amazing both before and after VTEC is reached. It speaks volumes that many of the attempts at bolt on aftermarket "enhancements" either do nothing or in fact REDUCE the HP of this car. Honda did it's homework and has produced the best bang for the buck car you can buy. If you ever get a chance to own or drive one, do yourself a favor - do it! I've had a permanent smile on my face ever since taking delivery!

For those who complain about the "snap oversteer" perhaps you should spend some time driving a rear wheel drive car before you cite this as a weakness. Although I imagine all you're doing is parroting something from a review - doubtful you've driven one, much less at the limits.

I was trying to replace my Z for nearly two years - nothing on the market interested me enough more than the Z to sell it and take the plunge (and I drove plenty of cars - see above). I test drove the S2000 on a Wed., signed the papers on Sat. and picked it up the following Monday - absolutely no regrets.

Strength:

Its faster then almost all domestic V8's, and its not even a drag racer. It has a nicer interior then domestics. It doesn't have the cheap, thin plastic feel to it like domestics. It has steel body panels, unlike domestic fiber glass. The VTEC in it is very noticable and shows the power of Honda engines.

Weakness:

Other then the plastic rear mirror, its great!

I paid $34952.95 after taxes and dealer fees. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants a roadster.

Its a lot better then the 1996 Cavalier I had. the S2000 is rattle-free.

Strength:

This car looks damn good from any angle. The car puts out a terrific sound, from the deep growl below 2000 rpms to the screaming about 7000. No Clock! Seats are ultra supportive and comfortable even on long highway trips. Confidence inspiring on twistier roads. You certainly get noticed in this rod. I could go on and on.

Weakness:

Plastic rear window is all cruddy after six months of use. The speakers aren't as good as they should be, to hear certain music when highway cruising, like jazz and acoustic, the volume must be turned ALL the way up.

This car is actually my dad's, but i drive it as often as he does, and together we are nearing the 10,000 mile mark and we have only owned the car since late february/early march! Actually, next weekend I am going to try my hand at Autocross at Summit Point Raceway. Now for the skinny on the car...

Its great fun to drive, the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle, and it has made a true manual transmission devotee out of me. (My personal car now is a 5spd honda accord wagon, with about a week left on the clutch, and badly needs engine repair. An antique muscle car is going to be my next purchase, hopefully before the accord dies.) The transmission in the S2000 is incredible, you know when you are in gear and its a joy flying through the gates, you find yourself shifting for the fun of it. The acceleration is phenominal once the car is moving a bit, not much torque down low, but ill forgive that. In all truth, my dad and I wanted this car before we test drove it, and because I am only 17, the dealership would not let me drive this one. (Although I've tried the Z3 and Boxster). I know I am leaving things out about this car, but it is truely spectacular in every way imaginable, except for that plastic window. I love the "redundant" controls on the left, and find myself trying to turn up the volume on the left hand side in other cars. I like the idea of no clock, you never feel as if you are in a hurry driving and it makes the entire experience more relaxing. Some of the other reviews have complained about the firm suspension, but this car was not designed to be a fast, comfortable car. The suspension fits the car perfectly and I would not change a thing. Maybe in time when the tires wear down more I'll think about upgrading to 17 or 18 inch wheels and Z rated tires. As of now, neither my dad nor I would change a single thing about the car, and we each get a kick out of seeing it in the garage each morning.

One quick note about the price, its truely a terrific buy. A fully loaded Miata with an extended warranty approaches the 30 grand mark, and the S2000 is worth so much more. I'm not sure if Honda is planning to sell for the next model year, but if not, its awfully nice to have a car, one of five thousand, that will be remembered as "the-car-that-scared-the-bejesus-out-of-porsche-and-bmw-for-25-grand-less!"

Strength:

FUN FUN FUN

Weakness:

(all are MINOR "weaknesses" ) smallish interior and notchy gear shifts (shift travels not as short as a Miata's); top cover should be built-in rather than snap on; wind deflector should be standard; more colour choices;find a Honda mechanic who is trained to fix this car because not too many know how; most Honda dealers do not stock parts for this car...may have to wait.

Regardless of price, if it's driving fun with speed that you want, this car will more than meet your expectation. It's like flying a small plane as opposed to a luxury corporate jet or an airliner.I have owned BMWs and Porsches which have become rather common. Its scarcity will add a bit of "exclusiveness" which is so sought after in this market segment. The car says the driver is an automobile affacionado and not driving a pretender but the real mc coy. Make sure there's enough protection aganist thefts though. With a long waiting list world wide, it could be on someone's "hit list" !

Strength:

The looks(front headlights and back)an amazing 2.0 litres for the engine = to a perfect performance of 240 hp.
Traction, handling and control.I think Honda makes the best cars because of there other productions like the electricity generators, motorcycles and lawnmowers.Secondly because if u want to sell it the value is always high. So it has a high value and its not expensive. Finally its very durable and stable.

Weakness:

Seriously , I think this car has no weaknesses.

I think the price is really good and this car is really worth that price.
Honda's are the best manufactured cars because of the F1 racing .
People who like control and comfort and performance for a very low price would fit with this car.
Other people who prefer highspeed, known brands like ferrari, porsche and lamborghini's and think that cars are good only if their expensive well forget it.

Similar to the BMW Z3, same shaped frontlights and back lights.
But the s2000 is a better roadster.

Strength:

A true sports car. Precise handling, amazing engine (great power to weight ratio- the highest for any normally aspirated production car built today), excellent brakes. Stiff body- amazing for a light convertible.

Weakness:

Poor stereo system. Mediocre interior carpet.

$37, 000. I would recommend it highly for anyone looking for a sports car. However, prospective owners should drive it first. It is not appropriate for anyone else- it does not compare to sports tourers in comfort, cargo capacity, etc.

Similar Products Used:

base boxster (no comparison- it is more expensive and has too little power and too much body flex)
BMW Z3 ( a good roadster- just not equal to this one- it feels heavier, and more importantly, is more expensive for a driving experience which does not equal the s2000)

Strength:

Its beauty, the way it handles, the build quality has to be second to none, the admiring looks I get from Euro sports car drivers.Eat your hearts out guys!!!

Weakness:

The sound system isn't the best,I'm constantly trying to get it to sound better than it does, but to no avail. Visibility can be a problem while backing up but I'm sure that's true af any sports car.A little noisy until I shift into a lower gear.

I knew if I was going to get this limited production car any where near its sticker price I would have to wait until the dead of winter. I tried each of my three local Honda dealers at the start of the new year. I was told that the best that they could do was between three and four thousand dollars over sticker!
I was very dissapointed and had just about given up when I decided to give the inetnet a try.I had made myself a promise that I would not pay over the MSRP under any circumstances. I came upon a website called driveoff.com and paid the required $250.00 finders fee.I was shocked when they called me within a day to let me know that they had found my car at the price (MSRP) that I was happy to pay,the only catch,it was 5 hundred miles away at a dealership in Chicago.I called the dealer and made arangments to pick the car up the following weekend.I love this car and have ABSOLUTLEY no regrets.

Strength:

Looks good, drives well very fast (revs 6000-9000), handles very well, more room than a Z3 or SLK Roadster.

Weakness:

Very low torque, rediculously underpowered stereo system (inaudible with top down at speeds over 55), significant decrease in power with A/C on, cowl rattles at higher rpms.

Fun to drive very fast, but a bummer in normal driving due to exceptionally poor torque and poor vision with top up. Probably OK for the height-challenged.

I am praying for an aftermarket supercharger to get the torque up to at least equivalent of an average car. I have replaced the stock "throw it away, you can't hear it with the top down" stereo, and this has added emensely to my driving pleasure.

If I had to do it over, I would have delayed purchase until they fixed the bugs.

Similar Products Used:

1998 Vette convertible is much faster and has better parts, 2000 Z3 was not as zippy and had less interior room with top down, 2000 SLK was much smaller inside.

Strength:

Transmission (the way it shifts)
Handling (agility, ready to change direction)
Steering and 9000 RPM power band is just unmatched driving experience

Weakness:

Plastic rear window.
Cheap carpet

I want to start by saying that this car is a BIG toy for me.
It is not a daily car for taking my kids to school or an investment.
This is my 3rd car and I am looking for a reliable, fun and ready for race track sport car.
This is a REAL sport car; It feels like a street legal RACE car.
Its design and driving experience is single minded and focused on 'DRIVNG'.
This is far superior to BMW M3/M-Roadster and Porsche Boxster-S.
Those cars are good and do offers more luxury features, but they can't compete with S2000 feel of riding motorcycle with 4 wheels.

S2000 is a two seater and its design is not a 4-seater trying to be both accomodate people and sporty (like an BMW M3 or Audi S4).
This is a car for people who can afford a 2nd or 3rd car cas their serious sport car /toy.

Once you get used to shifting with its short throw gear box and learn to maximize its wide power band. You will be rewarded and hooked.
The steering is very quick and the brake is very good but lacking the feel.

Similar Products Used:

Porsche Boxster-S (good car, not as much fun)
BMW M3/M-Roadster (good civiled car, suitable for timid, relatively poorer handling, heavy feel, speed limited to 130mph??)
