Sophisticated styling; race-car feel; supportive seats; smooth shifting and dreamy handling. Six speed! Truly excellent value when compared with other roadsters. I really like the look on my girlfriend's (and other women's) face when we're out cruisin'. And just the thrill of driving.
Weakness:
Lack of torque; plastic rear window; low front end that will scrape steep inclines This car really gets the looks. People stop me in traffic to ask about the car and always comment on the sleek styling. Paid sticker for silver with red interior; now driven for 2000 miles. Simple to get the top up and down in seconds. Fairly quiet ride for convertible and perfect driving position. I know the car gets ribbed for lack of torque, but don't buy this car to compete with some nerdy red-neck in a Mustang. There's plenty of power even at low rpms for cruising or getting out of traffic. Comfortable enough for city driving, but absolutely dreamy out in the country, on windy roads. Strength:
"Race Car" design and engineering. Driver-side fingertip controls for virtually everything in the car. If you want to feel like you're in an Indy Car or a Fomula 1, this is the car for you.
Weakness:
It doesn't have the acceleration it's hyped to have. My BMW Z-3 4 cylinder is faster. Rides like a rock, the suspension is beyond stiff all the way to none. Be prepared to have your teeth rattled. Cheap interior. No clock! How could that be? The dealers have a lot of gall demanding $3000-5000 over sticker for a car which looks "cheap" on the inside (carpeted center console is disgusting). I wouldn't even pay sticker for this overrated car. For less money I bought a faster, better handling, more luxurious BMW Z-3. Similar Products Used: BMW Z-3; Nissan 300ZX (years ago); Pontiac Fiero GT. All are faster, even the old Fiero. And all handle better, especially the BMW. |

Strength:
Aggressive looks, a real head turner. A lot of dash for the cash. Rigid chassis gives great handling. Possib the best manual gearbox around, excel seats, xenon headlights, hood, build quality. Dash & ventilation are also v.good. VTec engine gives exc fuel economy and nice exhaust note. Power delivery is adequate around town & Hway, you need to drop the hammer to get the best out of it. Very cheap servicing vs. Boxster(S) / Z3 Brigade. Likely to be cheaper to insure too. A great buy!
Weakness:
Lack of in-car storage. 'Budget' stereo is crap, but with the top down @ 6000rpm, you won't notice. Big blind spots with the hood up. Slightly harsh ride. Thirst for revs to extract engines best performance. Not much else really. The best value performance roadster on the market by far!. An all meat - no fat sports car for the true enthusiast. This is not really a car for poseurs! however, it does attract a lot of 'enthusiastic' interest wherever you go. Great bang for your buck! Similar Products Used: BMW Z3 2.8 - nice engine but not well made, inferior chassis, a common sight. Nice but more of a cruiser than real sports car. M Roadster v.quick but handling is below par due to chassis. |

Much class, appeal, and sensuality. Wherever I go this car commands attention. I'm constantly being belabored with complements. Okay, suprficiality aside, great handling, acceleration, braking, etc....
Weakness:
no clock, horrible stereo, rear widow, low-end torque. But I'm a purist so these shortcomings don't bother me. This is a true connesiuers(I know, it's spelled wrong)car, not to be mistaken for practicality what so ever. This is a top down, sunny day, gorgeous blonde, show it off, drivers car. Everything about this car spells sex and sensuality. Similar Products Used: Mustang GT. Simple, NO COMPARISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Wow. Beautiful, sexy, FAST, CORNERS, small (I have room in my garage again), beautiful, sexy. The tunde exhaust is great (makes it sound even better than it drives, if that's possible). Turns heads everywhere. Beautiful. Did I say sexy? Mine is Silver, the best silver on the road (not that wimpy silver on the Z3....). I just got back from a 2000 mile naming quest around northern New Mexico, southern Utah and the Grand Canyon -- fabulous on all the roads (even made the little bit of freeway I had to drive seem pleasant, mostly because I could just set the cruise control and watch all the "beaters" want to pass me and attract the cops). Very comfortable for long distances, just slide into the seat and strap it on!
Weakness:
Well, I could talk about the speakers and the plastic window and the clock like everyone else does, but listen up: who cares about the speakers when you're driving at 80 miles an hour on the back roads of New Mexico? The scenery, the driving, etc. etc. Besides, I have kept the same 12 CDs in my car as "driving music" for about 8 yerars -- I have them all memorized, so I don't really need to actually listen to them. OK, the plastic window -- but previous convertibles of mine have all had plastic windows, so I guess I'm used to it. And I can buy a lot of whole new tops for the money I'd have to spend on a more expensive car just to get a non-plastic window... And the clock -- well, the 2001 has a clock, it's just hidden in the radio under cover unless you really need it. Who needs it? I wear a watch if I have an important meeting, and otherwise I just DRIVE. Oh, and others have mentioned storage -- well, remember the old MG-TCs and TR3s where you not only had no storage, but you had to keep the windows under your bed (that's where we stored them in college). There was plenty of room for a couple small suitcases and all the maps we needed on our recent trip (see above). Well, most of my thoughts are above. Suffice to say I am a 56-year-old woman who has always wanted a car like this, and finally I can afford one and have fun driving it! My clients and staff love it; I love it. I bought it at a dealership that sells for MSRP only -- no dickering -- so I didn't have the rip-off problem some other reviewers have mentioned. Similar Products Used: The last production model "performance" car I had was a BMW 2002 - it had a LOT more room, the oh my this is wonderful by comparison. I had intended to find a restored one to buy, until I saw this. I have now moved firmly into the 21st century.... |

Awesome handling, Superbly Engineered, The chassis is a rock!, Love the styling! A pure joy to drive!
Weakness:
Lousy convertible boot. (It must have been 5:10 PM on Friday when Honda came op with this.) Stereo could be better but is much improved with new speakers. The first thing you notice is the incredibly tight shifter. Honda says 23mm throws. The door openings are tight, if your not agile forget it. The car goes like a bat out of hell. If your normal driving habits are conservative they will change after driving this car. Its a blast to drive. I drove a Prowler and got back in my 2000 and it was remarkable to experience the difference in precision, windless (by comparison) and quiet top down driving. Finally, this a drivers machine. If you want comfort and amenities this is not your car. Buy it because you love to drive. Similar Products Used: I have owned 60+ cars. |

combine the most powerful production 4-cylinder non-turbo or supercharger engine, a excellent and easy to use 6-speed transmisson, a very rigid body for a roaster, and the suspension that provide world class handling, S2000 is a real sport car that have a reasonable cost. This car give the driver the feeling that he/she is controling a machine. it is very fun to drive and it also have a high ride quality and it's a beautiful car too. even it is a front engine rear-driving car but it's engine location give it the handling of mid-engine cars. it also can be a everyday-using car.
Weakness:
it is very hard to find weaknesses in this car. most people did not like the plastic window, my opinion is to driving it with the top down as much as you can. Or you can buy the hardtop. the plastic window is not a problem for me, since 90% of the time i driving that car with top down in the less-rain southern california. the sound system do sucks. but if you brought this car you should always keep the engine speed in 6000-9000rpm to listen to that wonderful engine noise instead the music. some people said the steering of the S2000 can not transit road information clearly to the driver. but the fact is the steering is natural and clear. Only car magazine test editor will find the steering is unclear in the skidpad test, because the rigid body of this rear wheel driving machine can transit road information more faster to the driver. and the oversteer behavior of the car is the way to give driver fun instead of cause danger. There are really not many of car in the today's world have a oversteer behavior. S2000 require the driver have some level of driving skill to discover the greatest fun of this car. but even you are a new driver, this car can also be easier to control and still have a lot fun. and it can increase the driving skill of the driver. Lotus Elise is always my dream car since it come out in 1996. but i love the S2000 very much. S2000 match the fun and performance of those cars above that are not sell in Unite States. and it is the only one can sell in US. Lotus Elise is the car that may have higher handling than S2000 but it doesn't have the ride comforts like power window, power steer, ABS, power top of the S2000. S2000 can still match more than 90% handling of Lotus Elise and offer all those ride comforts, high performance, everyday-using. And since S2000 is the only that selling in states that it is the most fun car you can buy in it's cost range. but i still love the Lotus Elise alot. this machine make the driver feeling he is complete part of the car. hope one day it will sell in the Unite States. The engine loves to be rev'd, the handling is awesome, and the Bridgestone S02 make this car stick like glue. With 50/50 weight distribution this car was born to be track driven!!
Weakness:
The gear box is notchy, and the brakes get mushy when pushed hard (on the track). This is my brother-in-law's car, and at first I thought he was crazy to spend almost $40k on a Honda. I was completely wrong!! This car loves to be driven hard. I've heard lots of stories of people crashing or spinning on the track. This is because the S2000 gives you so much confidence that you get cocky and make stupid mistakes. The S2000 is the fastest out of the box car in the roadster catagory. I'm waiting for the new M3 (hopefully with SMG) and the new C32. But in the meantime think God I have an awesome brother-in-law that likes to share his fun toy. To all the people who want a cute weekend convertible get the SLK or Miata. To those seriously addicted to speed, the track, and high performance fun without modifications, then the S2000 should satisfy you and make your accountant (or wife) happy too. The best style so far has to be the style. You get looks left and right. The speed is amazing. I LOVE how all the radio controls are right next to the steering wheel. Its very easy to control the whole car be just moving your hand 3 inches. The shifter in smooth and short. The lights are crazy ( in a good way ) The gauges are very unique and easy to look at. For the price this car is great!!!!! The handling has to be the 2nd best feature. Such smooth handling. Burnouts are hard unless you rev that engine up into the 6/7rpm area.
Weakness:
rear window- I hate thge crease in it which disorts the view. Its fun, its fast. Be young and last!!! You buy this car to drive it like a crazy man. If you don't intend to hit at least 120 get a toyota. I have never had so much damn fun with a car. But for real. Don't drive on snow. Its basicly a death wish. No Joke Similar Products Used: KY Jelly- The car is alot smoother than the jelly |

Strength:
Everything! It is virtually a hand built car so expect some minor mises.
Weakness:
NOT A WEAKNESS : The plastic rear window: if you want to get rid of the protective grease that came with every new S2000, simply get some hand cleaner used by mechanics (not spray on type but rub-on) and rub on/wipe off the rear window. This should make the window clear and transparent! Helps visibility immensely. One other minor point: only wish the rush up the rpm could be quicker so VTEC could cut in sooner without changing gear. But then I suppose going through the gears is part of the joy of driving a real sports car! The new 2001 model comes standard with the aero deflector I believe, but I didn't notice much difference with it on with mine. Why people complain about the lack of a clock or the qaulity of the speakers is beyond me! The driver is too occupied with driving the car to notice the clock or care about the high fidelity of the speakers especially with the top down in the summer! Unless you want to impress pedestrians in the city...but for that, you are better off driving a Jeep or Sunfire GT. A knock out! Rare and precious (I have owned many other exotics but this one is cool, cute and special).Inevitable questions at gas stations. Like my previous Porsches ,Masaratis, etc., I have a custom car cover for it. Envious glances from Audi TT, BMW roadsters, Merc.SLKs and Porsche Boxters because their cars are "a dime a dozen" now. Miata owners wished they can have one. Fellow S2000 owners blink headlights when passing each other in mutual admiration. In prejudiced European streets, people sneak a quick secret view of the car. But since there are no HONDAs written all over the car (none in fact), they ended up having to ask for its idenity. Dropped and spilled their cafe au lait when told it's a Honda. Mon dieu! |
