Strength:
Most reliable sports car out there (besides Integra type R) if you consider it to be in the same class.
Weakness:
Blind spot is big, poor rear visibility. This is my dream car. Here is why: Similar Products Used: 4th Nissan Overall, 1989 240sx (a wonderful rear wheel sports coupe) 300zx (1985), 90+Z. Honda CRX 1988 |

Strength:
It looks beautiful and goes like a rocket, handles superbly. I love it!
Weakness:
Quite flimsy, fuel economy (but hey who cares its a Sports car) I don't own one yet, but will soon! I was lucky enough to drive one for a weekend (Jap Import one) and was gutted to have to give it back. What can I say I live it, I dream it - I adore it. Superb! Strength:
Turbocharged engine is incredible. Excellent handling due to HICAS 4-wheel steering and adjustable suspension stiffness. Looks are top notch. The 2-seater coupe model's interior is surprisingly comfortable. More reliable than most sports cars. Overall excellent engineering, fit and finish. Available on the used market for much less than retail price.
Weakness:
Rear visibility is poor. Right-rear and and left-rear visibility is absolutely abominable. It doesn't break often, but replacement parts can be expensive when it does. Brakes are weaker than they should be. The retail price for a new one is severe. This being a sports car, gas mileage is not great. The stock stereo system (Bose) is silly, you'll probably want to replace it with something better. You'll probably get lots of speeding tickets driving this car. ;] If you can afford the care and feeding, this is quite possibly the best balanced sports/GT car yet made. It isn't always cheap to maintain (though a lot of the time, it is). And beware, if the oil hasn't been changed religiously, and the necessary maintainence hasn't been done to the car, they can destroy themselves fast (especially the turbo models). the 300zx TT is a great car, i import and sell jap cars in australia, now i have had mr2's turbo and non turbo, crx's(hmm forgetaboutit) and i have had a lexus v8 worked, now out of all these cars the most fun for sports would have to be the 300zx, the mr2 turbo felt like you where going to just roll it, to much power for a s*/t box, as the 300zx has all that power but the wieght to keep it to the ground. the one i have now is a 4 seater, and again its not to bad, but am looking forward to getting back into a 2 seater again.
Weakness:
Weakness well that all depends, this one i have now, makes some annoying noises in the front end, has to be in the suspension, a few rattles in the back, but thats what you get when you have hard suspension. Brakes to suck. Fuel well, might as well have your own fuel depot, burns heaps, i am lucky to do 250 KM.. now that sucks, even the v8 did 350 KM.. overall if you dont mind spending the cash on fuel, go get one, there much better than any other sports car onthe market for that price, Here in australia, everyone loves the WRX 4x4 turbo, well forget it, they dont even keep up to make it a little exciting, targa roof comes off, the car has the looks and the speed to go with it. Strength:
Incredibly fast, still turns heads even with a 10-y-o design. T-tops have all the pluses of a ragtop with none of the negatives.
Weakness:
Brakes do seem a tad weak on a car this fast. Driving a turbo Z in the rain or snow can be nerve racking, but then, that's not what this car was designed to do. Similar Products Used: RX7, 3000GT VR4, Integra |

Maintanance I paid 12k for my 93 TT with Stage IV upgrade, well worth it. Similar Products Used: 300ZX NA, not the same without the turbos |

300ZX 2+2
Strength:
Handling is first rate. With some very short lasting, very soft compound Falken tires, I could take a 90 deg. turn at 40 mph with no tire noise. Now with some more reasonable tires on the car, it doesn't handle quite as well, but still impressive. This car is suprisingly comfortable for 2 occupants, even on long trips. The styling is beautiful. The HVAC system is good, controlled by setting digital temperature control buttons.
Weakness:
The worst feature of the 300ZX is the poor rear quarter visibility. It's nerve racking every time you change lanes. If I lived in a high traffic city like LA, I would not use this car to commute. Acceleration (w/automatic) is adequate, but not highly impressive. My Dad's 5 door Mazda turbo beats it handily 0-60 mph. The engine compartment is very short on space. You have to remove the front body panel between the headlights to just to change the air filters. A real pain. I bought this car used a little over 3 years ago for about $18,000. It only had under 40k miles on it. I've had to have the power steering repaired, the glove box latch broke, the fancy Bose radio doesn't change channels any more, but other than that it's been pretty reliable. Now these cars are available for around $12 or $13 thousand. A good value. Be sure to check around for insurance prices. I was paying too much for the first couple of years. Strength:
Timeless Design, very fast and fun, offers thrills only a rear wheel drive can, sporty yet luxurious, well planned engineering, great aftermarket support, high value, becoming increasingly rare, rock solid v6
Weakness:
a tad heavy, brakes somewhat inadequate in earlier models (but easily upgradeable) This car has a very sweet flowing design that is still pleasing to the eye despite it's 10 year age. Once you get past the exterior, you are treated to an interior that is unparalleled in the automotive industry. The cockpit is snug, with everything within easy reach, yet surprisingly roomy for a 2-seater. Once you turn the key, things really start moving! Just tap on the gas and you're instantly careening towards its 155mph (140 for na) top speed... just keep in mind to stay within legal limits. It's understated engineering is where it really shines. You have a very complex car derived straight from Nissan's racing history, from the rock solid V6 engine to its perfectly tuned suspension geometry. This car will be enjoyed by both the sports enthusiast and the normal consumer alike. Easily modified, this is a true sports car - unlike your 'sticker enhanced' dealer offerings of today. Strength:
Fast, very reliable, sleek body looks, excellent sports tourer, easily ugradable, excellent acceleration, great value for money and most of all FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!
Weakness:
None so far. Uses a bit of gas, but much less than the batomobile RX7. I tried out the Mazda RX7 batmobile twin turbo, the supra 1993 model twin turbo manual, the Mitisbishi GTO twin turbo manual, Porsche 928 and I felt the Nissan was the best of the lost. I like the Mazda but it wasn't so hot for touring and used too much gas. I found the Supra a little boring and the Porsche 928 a little heavy and slow. My Nissan is a mint 2 seater, red, Japanese import and has been very well maintained over its life. I had to wait ages until a twin turbo manual came up for sale. Most of the 300 ZX imports are autos which is a waste of time for a sports car. I get a buzz out of driving this car every time I drive it. |

Strength:
Very well thought out design of mechanical parts throughout. The turbo system is very well thought out and is very responsive to tuning. The suspension is well sorted out for a heavy car. The fit and finish on these cars are at least as good as any of the era, and makes domestic sporty cars look foolish.
Weakness:
The car is heavy for a sports car. This affects the low speed handling and the braking adversely. I think Nissan could have made the brakes more fade resistant and applicable for a 155 mph car. I am also put off by some of the prices on replacement Nissan parts, but that is part of owning a Japanese exotic no longer produced. These cars a very well engineered, affordable exotics for the thinking man. Both the normally aspirated and turbo versions are daily usable supercars and their performance is difficult to beat today. If you are willing to commit to an expensive to maintain sports car and not an appliance, I would highly recommend the 300zx. Similar Products Used: Mitsubishi Eclipse |
