Strength:

Powerful, responsive, excellent handling, beautiful sleek bodylines

Weakness:

Not one.

Nissan is by far the most competent auto maker for the masses of this century. The sports cars that have been maufactured by Datsun/Nissan for the past 62 years have come from the highest standards of quality. I, for one, will always own a Nissan.

This is one of the finest sports cars made. Extremely reliable and an absolute blast to drive. Very comfortable for long highway drives or road racing.

Strength:

Looks, Ride, Handling, Overall Feel

Weakness:

Too many unnecessary electronics that are expensive to replace (digital dash, etc). Too heavy to be a real road burning sports car.

This is my second car, my first being a 1991 Pontiac Firefly (see top). I was looking for a used car in the summer of 2000 when a silver 85 300ZX caught my eye. I had been looking for a early 90s 240SX, (something I could drive during the ~8 months of winter up here in northern Manitoba) but when I saw the Z I knew I had to have it. I had a pretty good knowledge of Z cars, but I never thought I would own one. Now I do, and I'm not regretting it.

The 200hp turbo engine puts out pretty decent power. You aren't going to be smoking the tires at every stop light, but it gets the job done. The handling and overall feel of the car is superb. It's heavy and low to the ground yet is suprisingly nimble, (that also makes for an extremely comfortable highway drive). The only thing that I don't like is that mine's an automatic and I would have prefered a 5-speed stick...oh well.

One thing you'll notice if you get a Z is the amount of looks it gets driving down the street. They are really unique/rare cars (no matter what the year), that's one of the main reasons I bought it. I was asked on more than one occasion what kind of car it was. It's a head turner and there's nothing better than driving with the T-tops off and having every lady on the street turn to look :)

I'm going to have fun with this car the next couple of summers, (until I can afford a 90s Z32 :) and that's basically what this car is...it's a fun car.

Strength:

-super fast for the price
-easy upgrades for looks
-lots of room for a system
-black leather interior, sunroof
-turbo

Weakness:

-sucks in the ice and snow in a -40c winter day and especially in snow

I bought this car after I wrote off my mustang and I had a ot of money from that car so I bought this tinted all the windows painted it red and bought a new turbo and tires for it and some nice used aluminum rims, and 4 10" rockfordfosgate xlc's and a punch 800a2 amp so this is a fast car with a big boomin system. This car with the new turbo is super fast, accelerates very fast and has a realy nice feel when cornering in the summer it's a very fun car to drive. during the first winter I had it I bought a 90 ford tempo because this car was absolutely hell to drive in the winter, the tempo is a very good winter car except for their heating system sucks. but this car isn't the most practical.

Strength:

Fast, very sleek looks, reliable, very well designed car!

Weakness:

Winter driving is not for this car.

I am 17 and have owned this car for almost a year, it is everything a guy could want. People look at you when you go by because they can't figure out what kind of car you have! A 300ZX is the most ideal sports car ever designed by Nissan, and I would recommend one to anyone that can find one. I am sure the newer models are even better than mine, if that is possible!

Strength:

Power, looks, interior design.

Weakness:

Brakes aren't that great for 4-wheel ABS. Cannot put car into first gear unless completely stopped. Stock Bose stereo system sucks and is hard to remove or alter. Driver's seat is wearing out...this is a very common problem on both leather and cloth seats in the 90-96 300zx!

I love this car. I heard that the 90-96 300zx's were modeled after the Ferrari and Porsche, and from this car's overall appearance I can definitely see the resemblance. The interior feels like a cockpit when you get behind the wheel. Everything you need is right at your fingertips. The 5spd. transmission shifts great and gives a perfect band of power throughout the entire rev range. The t-tops come off in 30 seconds and it feels great driving with them off. I get looks from all sorts of people--the car draws more attention than I ever expected it would. A friend of mine has the same exact car, except he has stripped off all the Nissan emblems. He says that people approach him all the time and have no idea what kind of car it is! That's the best thing about this amazing sports car--they are so few and far between that they truly are head turners. Definitely not a dime a dozen like integras, eclipses, etc.

Model Reviewed: 300ZX "Special Edition"

Strength:

Handling, quietness, tight, looks, overall fit & finish!

Weakness:

Original front brake rotors. Dealer replaced and never a problem again.

Bought the car new in Aug 1991. Doesn't have the power I had with my Vett or Pantera, but absolutely the best all around sports car I have ever owned! Never kept a sports car over three years until this jewel. I'm just hitting 56k miles as I write this review. Have only had three things go wrong in 10 years. Front rotors, master brake cylinder and stock driveshaft, the first two were covered under warranty. I recently installed a new one piece driveshaft and wow, smoother and tighter than before! The factory shaft was apparently bad from the second year I owned the car, but I didn't realize it until I recently read an article about a slight vibration the Z has from the stock driveshaft. The car drove so good it didn't bother me. I didn't know how much better it could be.

This 5spd NA engine can get with it for a V-6! I didn't want any more Turbos and don't need it. I can get in plenty of trouble with what I have. For some reason mine is faster than several other ZXs I have driven including one of my friend's which has the upgraded chip, exhaust and intake mods! I've babied this car and I guess it has paid off, it still drives and looks like the day I bought it! The Special Edition is a one of a kind dealer package (2-Tone red/black ext)and gets awes and stares every time I take it out of the garage, which isn't to often. The special 2-Tone gray & black cloth interior is comfortable and roomier than the corvette, not to mention twice as quiet! The transmission and drivetrain is really smooth (now) and shifts tightly. The engine power curve is exactly as Nissan advertised, smooth over the entire rpm range. The engine looks, runs and sounds like a hybrid race car. The Nissan race team made history with it! The only upgrade I've made is the audio speakers, the cassette player sounds good and is first class for a factory unit. Ergonomic design for the driver is like a jet airplane, all the essentials are at your fingertips. Using synthetic oil (Mobile 1) has kept the oil pressure as high as the day I bought the car! I haven't even had to change the stock windshield wipers yet, they still work great - probably because the car has been garaged the whole time.

I don't care for my local Nissan dealer, but I sure do love this Nissan 300ZX! It will go down in history as one of their great achievements! Nissan should have never stopped making this car, its a classic in every sence of the word. Now that I'm considering selling it, I wonder if there is anything out there that will ever give me as much pleasure as this ZX has? The only new sport cars I have driven that come close to it - cost $40k to $60K, that makes me think twice about a new car! Should I ????

FAST if you like speed you will like this car. The styling is a little bit 80's, but it is an 84. With the borg warner tranny this car has tourque in every gear at every speed. I feel the best power band is at about 3000RPM in second.

Weakness:

With higher miles some minor repairs needed, however they are expected. The stock exhaust is ok but can always be improved with headers and twice pipes.

This car handles great with the suspention control. every speed is great with this car. 0-60, 60 to top ot is all amazing. I would recomend this car to anybody who wants a fast car for cheap.

I have had expieriences with an 85 XJS Jag v12 and the jag rides smoother but for speed the Z would blow its doors off. Compared to every Camero of older 80's cars which have tried to pull up next to me........2 words............SEE YA!!! I would put this car with the few modifications that I have done up against almost any six cyl. and many eights. I love playing with Mustangs, they are like little toys.
