taking the car for what it is: a world class, two seat sportscar : None Phenomal car. Makes my '90 300zx feel like a truck. Similar Products Used: 300zx, supra, Z3, TR4, Acura, Miata-much more fun, better handling and ofter faster(esp. Miata) |

Strength:
Mm. this was very good handling in medium speed. Feel stable in dry road condition.
Weakness:
Mm. this car must have very well in driving technique especially when going to cornering (wet whether). Don’t play play at cornering... Reason I bought this car are MR, Middle Engine Rear Wheel drive. It similar like Honda NSX (MR). But of course the handling will different compare with this two car. Similar Products Used: My dreams car was NSX, I wish I can buy it in future. I haven't drive before NSX, so I can't compare with this two MR car. |

Toyota MR2 Gti-16 175 hp
Strength:
The look is wonderful (a mini Ferrari); The seat position is perfect: very low on the ground and vertical steering wheel(is it right?); Very good handling and accelleration. But to describe "her", i need just two words: simply perfect!!
Weakness:
I need more horses in my engine and biggest tires; in Italy it's very difficult to find parts for this car (I wanted a biggest rear wing, but I don't know where I can find it) "SHE"is the best sport car you can buy before having a Ferrari. Similar Products Used: I drove:Porsche Carrera 4,Mercedes SL 320, Audi TT.More power but not the same sensation and feeling. MR2 is the best!! |

MR2 Turbo
Strength:
It is very reliable. Comfort is excellent for its size. I have the leather which is very supportive on longer trips. Fuel economy is great for the power. I can also pack stuff in it for a three week trip with the wife (she packs pretty light). FUN FUN FUN
Weakness:
It is hard to find tires for the stock wheels. They can last longer if you aren't always peeling out. This car is the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel. While I was on travel, I test drove a 91 then I got the bug. It took me about a year to find one. Similar Products Used: Before I bought the MR2, i was looking for a small fun car. I looked at the Miata (doesn't come close) and the DelSol (pretty fun) but one drive of the MR2 and I knew what I wanted |

2.2 NA MR2
Strength:
Super fast, great handling mid-engine, rear-wheel drive car. One of the most comfortable and user friendly interiors. (Better than Viper I was in.)
Weakness:
mild overheating problem, but easily fixed. Besides that this car is untouchable! I've had this car about a year and it has changed my whole outlook on driving. Everywhere I go people stop and look at my MR2. At nearly every stoplight someone wants to race. Similar Products Used: Compares somewhat to a really fast GO-KART! That's right, this car will let it all hang out on the corners. But, of course, a GO-Kart is much slower. |

NA
Strength:
Handling, reliability, value.
Weakness:
Be ready to buy rear tires every 8-12Kml, t-tops leak sometimes, NA could use more HP. Incredible value. If you can find a good one - keep it. With only about 12000 left in US (1991-1995) it is extremely rare. I had one about five years ago and had to sell it, couldn't use it as an everyday car at winter and couldn't afford to buy another car. Sure enough, I started looking for another one a few years later. Found one with low miles locally and absolutelly love it. Couldn't get enough of it. It's hard to explain, just try to find one and take it for a test drive. It drives incredible and handles great. And it's not about speed, it's about driving. If you looking to get one, don't think too long, just buy it. Even if you're not familiar with it, you'll understand. But in my opinion, this is a car for driving, not for commuting. If you have kids, it's better be your "extra" summer car. It's probably not ideal car for a long freeway drive. Similar Products Used: There is really nothing to compare (RWD, mid-engine, 2 seat). Maybe Ferrari. Much lighter and handles better than Mitsubishi 3000, or Eclipse. Much cheaper than most sport cars. |

MR2 Spyder
Strength:
Sleak lines, unique look, terrific grip, outstanding sound, serious gas mileage, glass rear window and a roomy interior for a roadster.
Weakness:
Pack light. Right now, it only sells at MSRP, but it's not unreasonable and you get plenty bang for the buck. The only change I would recommend is to light up/outline the door lock/unlock switch and power mirror switch similar to the driver's side power window switch. I've wanted an MR2 since they first came out. The wedge aerodynamics really caught me eye. Took one for a test ride and never forgot how much fun it was. It was a roadster and your fears were the only limitation to what it could do. Didn't make enough to afford one then and, later, when they got turbocharged, it didn't appeal to me. Now that I'm older and wiser and exercise better judgment, I figured screw it. When you get to the pearly gates you're goin' to be buck naked, so you might as well get it now. My 2001 MR2 is liquid silver. The MR2 comes with practically every option and looks good from any angle, top up or down. When you're driving the new MR2 it is one of those cars that intimately surrounds you and becomes an extension of yourself. It's quiet enough with the top up and you don't get blown away when it's down. Like you'd really care. It doesn't feel small, just nimble. There's nothing cheap about it. It's not special off the line (7-8 secs to 60). It's power is in the way in rides and corners and in the way it accelerates at higher speeds to leave most anything else behind. When I say corner, I mean just that. It does corners and narrow country roads in a way you've never experienced. The engine has a bass growl to it that really turns you on. The top is manual, but it's a snap to put up or take down. There is no trunk, but so what. There's enough space behind the sports bucket seats to put stuff in, the glove compartment is pretty big, there's a neat compartment centerd in the dash under the front window, and, if you take the spare out of the front, you've got room for more junk. The amber lighting is easy on the eyes and the AM/FM/CD/Tape Player sounds great. I also like that it's got a glass rear window that's easy to see out of. Every day I look forward to driving my MR2. It is a ride you want to hang on to forever. If you don't know what I mean, you need to find out. Similar Products Used: The MR2 Spyder is a roadster. A lot of thought went in to it and it's got style. It compares with the Honda S2000, BMW Z3 and the Audi TT. |

turbo
Strength:
Power, looks, Handling, Toyota reliability (despite my problems, it is a turbocharged 200 hp 4 cylinder with a lot of miles and runs strong.)
Weakness:
Expensive repairs, especially waterpump or timing belt. as they have to pull the engine, (800 bucks for the waterpump), Insurance rates if you are under 25 (mine was 240 a month for full coverage, I looked on the web at insweb.com and they got me full coverage for 120 a month, still a lot, I turn 25 in 6 months, I can't wait) oversteer in wet weather. Well, I previously owned a 1986 mr2 and loved it, until A minivan totaled it. I took my money and put it down on the only turbo mr2 I could find. Drove it off the lot and it overheated, BAD. SO I took it back to the dealer furious, and they had it for 2 weeks, and finally I got it back. IT had blown a headgasket, which they paid for the repair. Then I had 7 months of blissful, trouble free driving. Great accelaration, handling, etc. Then I started overheating again. Replaced the water pump and radiator cap, as well as a new thermostat, and that fixed the issue. Have had a few more issues with overheating mildly, but only in hot (95+ weather), going uphill. I bought the car with 114,000 miles on it, so I expected some problems, and now have 139,000 miles on it as I drive a lot. When it is running well, It is the best car I have ever driven, and when it is not, I swear I am going to trade it in. I almost have twice, but couldn't bring myself to do it. I have read some other reviews of this car having overheating problems, I guess it is related to the mid engine design. I would reccommend this car to anyone looking for an inexpensive sports car. I now plan to keep it as long as I have the need for speed. And plan on adding an air scoop and new intercooler to help keep temperatures down. Similar Products Used: 1986 mr2- new one is much quicker, better looking, I have looked at integra's, civics, sentras, celicas. I keep coming back though. |
