Strength:

Engine seems powerful enough, has enough room for 2 bikes in the back (with the seats down, and the front wheels off), seats are comfortable, stereo, ride is smooth, looks and feels great.

Weakness:

Rattling, Instrument Panel heats up at night (seriously, try touching yours when the headlights have been on for a while!), bouncy ride at times (at high speeds, 75mph+), Powerloss when AC is running (you can really feel it), and once I tried to hit 100mph on the highway - I reached about 98, and the engine just cut out on me... it didn't turn off or anything, but it felt like I hit the brakes; luckily no damage was done, and nothing bad happened, but it's something I will never try again.

I bought this 1999 Blazer in excellent used condition for $17,000.00. It had 23,000 miles at time of purchase, and is fully loaded. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is not a speed demon on the highway, and needs a good all year round vehicle that will get them through any type of weather situation.

2000 Chevrolet 2dr Blazer. The seatbelt saved my life. I thought it was good to load up my "stuff" and go. Little did I know that the payload was incorrectly stated...This is what caused my 4 month old blazer to roll....

Weakness:

Cannot load your vehicle down with any type of weight, Steering column was tight, Vehicle rolled at 30 mph after hitting a small chug hole causing my 2000 vehicle to roll. The vehicle landed with the drivers side facing the sky - My seatbelt litterly saved my life and I have a totaled vehicle.

I have bought over the course of 18 years 8 vehicles and have never purchased a blazer and WILL NEVER buy one again. They are very dangerous! The do flip, it can happen to you. The fire department employee at my accident sceen was pricing out the same vehicle for his wife and 3 children and after seeing my vechicle that day he said -- Im going home and changing my plan after seeing what this did. I hit a small pot hole driving 30 mph (the road I live on) in July of this year. My vehicle was loaded with groceries, paperwork, normal stuff you would carry if you commute 160 miles a day or more. Anyway the pothole threw my vehicle to the right and when I brought the vehicle up onto the road the steering column was going out of control. I have never feared for my life until this day. I had no control of this vehicle and then I saw the grass and then the asfault was one inch from my eyebrows and the I tucked my head as if I were preparing to die and then it stopped. Four men stopped and pulled me out of the drivers side window by my arm pitts. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN THE PASSANGER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD. the roof as sturdy as it appears crumpled - I know that GOD saved my life that day for some reason because I did not die and did not have severe head trauma or paralisis. My vehicle ended up a total loss and to this day 2/01 (7 months later) I am without a vehicle. My insurance company (Allstate) states fair market value is 10,000 less than my loan(bought it in Feb 2000 - wrecked in July 2000). Long story short, I have the vehicle and cannot get agreance with my insurance company or General Motors about product liabiltiy. BOTTOM LINE.... The vehicle should have never flipped especially at 30 mph!! And it is really sad when you contact the mfg - because you have a new vehicle that has a product liabiltiy issue and you have the vehicle to prove it but you did not DIE in the accident - you dont even get a phone call back or get a phone call answered. YOU have to DIE in an accident to prove there is a product defect - This to me is very SAD, because I have the experience now to tell the engineers at General Motors what I think would or would not help their product -- they dont care enough to get with me. In October 2000 I got a recall notice on my blzar stating that the payload information on my vehcile was incorrectly stated and that if LOADED INCORRECTLY that I could go out of control without notice and cause severe damage or wreckage. I little late for me, and I wrote to Chevrolet on the recall notice and still have not heard from them. As a long term loyal customer, Im very disappointed and will contiue to fight until this is FAIRLY resolved.

Strength:

The drive train seems to be very good. The engine has hauled my motorcycles out into the desert and up in the mountains for years. The vehicle is great for my son and me when we go out fishing ...I let the seat down and the back accommodates our equipment.

Weakness:

After 175,000 miles, my transmission has given out. I was quoted from the dealer $1300.00 for a new one ...this doesn't include the installation. I have had to replace the arm rest on both sides three times, the console once and the rear window shock absorbers twice. All windows have fallen off track at least twice and the rear window squeeks and rattles ...it's annoying. Be sure to keep some black electrical tape handy. The suspension has always been noisy and I've replace upper and lower ball joints after 90K. I recieved two recalls on my Blazer - one for the braking system and the other for rear faulty seat belts. The spare is in the rear interior and I can't manage to keep the tire in the original upright position. One day this tire is going to go through the window. The rear view mirror has fallen off at least twice a year for the past seven years ...come on Chevy engineers, screw this thing onto some metal, the windshield stick-on design sucks.

I just installed a 6 inch trailmaster suspension lift kit and tucked some big off-road tires under them wheel wells. I plan on having fun with this 4.3 liter Blazer. If it dies on me again, I'll just had the keys to the first person that comes along. I would rather invest on the big brother, the HD2500 crew cab. The engine is great but the body is no better than the Ford Pinto.

Strength:

I really love this car. It is the right size, it fits my bicycle inside the back and I can carry other bicycles on the rear wheel on the outside of the vehicle. It pulls my 19' boat with no problems. And besides the regular maintance, I have had no problems.

Weakness:

I agree with some of the others, the interior does rattle, not much, but more than most cars.

Low clearance is also a minus. When pulling the boat I do scrap ground on the trailer sometimes. I had to have the hitch ball mounted on the other side of the hitch to get a couple inches extra clearance.

I would recommend it. It isn't overly big and like I said holds my bicycle in the back standing up and pulls the boat. I do prefer the wheel on the outside of the car in the rear but that is a personal preference.

The 4 wheel drive was a plus one winter here in Maryland. (We don't get much in the way of snow).

Has very good pickup but doesn't seem to be able to maintain a speed over 75 easially.

Strength:

Nice body styling and powerfull engine. Runs good in Rain and wet weather.

Weakness:

The SUV had lot of cheap matearial in interier, dash is old fashioned. Drove off road, not very friendly in 4x4 specially in dirt. Engine makes some funny noices when you go over 70MPH. Also with 190 HP engine max speed is just 100MPH.

I leassed my Black 2000 blazer LT in Dec 99 for 262 a month for 36 months. I thought its great deal. Liked it so far. Its not the best SUV but at this price its OK

Model Reviewed: Blazer 2 door 2WD

Strength:

The engine is strong and reliable. The vehicle is remarkably rattle-free, and rides well.

Weakness:

The suspension is too springy, probably due to being designed for the soccer mom. The spongy suspension is very comfortable, but makes the vehicle extremely unstable during high speed maneuvers.

Dealership support from Reliable Chevrolet in Tulsa, OK is incompetent and non-existant, as they were unable to correct a steering problem (vehicle would "wobble" going down the road, and was very difficult to control the vehicle) after 6 visits and a discussion with the area tech rep, who stated that the vehicle "wobbled within specs" and refused to do more work on it. Documentation on this conversation can be found if necessary, as all calls to my work line are recorded. The problem was finally corrected by one visit to Classic Chevrolet in Owasso, OK. Due to the lack of support from Chevrolet, I can no longer recommend a GM product in good faith based on the actions from GM.

Paid 21K for the vehicle, recieved excellent tradein for 1999 Chevy Silverado ext cab 4x4.

Initial quality was pretty good, except for the steering problem described above. Too much plastic is used on the interior, but to date does not squeak like that much plastic would be expected to. Vehicle handles well at low speeds, but becomes unstable at higher speeds due to the gooshy suspension, as described above. Vehicle gets better than EPA rated mileage, even with hard driving. Engine is peppy, but 190HP is not enough for the vehicle size. 250HP would have been better for the vehicle.

I would recommend the vehicle, if it were not for the lack of customer service from GM. The "you bought it, so it is not our problem" attitude is deplorable. I would recommend that Chevrolet learn how to take care of customers from Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai. These manufacturers have found it to be more profitable to fix the problem rather than ignore it and hope it goes away, therefore have more repeat customers. My next vehicle will be from one of these makers.

I would recommend the Blazer over the Explorer.

Strength:

Right now, nothing.

Weakness:

The "leather" seats the dealer said would last up appr. 10 years, started splitting at 3 years. The transmission went early, but the tranmission person we used found that the fan for the transmission was located under the radiator, and a drop or two of coolant leaked turned everything to mush. He then mounted it externally to the transmission. The "Service Engine Soon" light never goes off, and it seems Chevrolet never let the "Goodwrench Boys" in on how to do anything about it. And General Motors.....pathetic. Could care less. Will NEVER recommend GM. Will never buy GM again. Biggest RATTLE trap I have ever been in. GM could take some serious lessons from Ford on how to build a better truck as far as tight and rattle-free interiors. Friends think it's falling apart!!! They laugh constantly at all the rattles, and I have never taken it offroad! I push against my driver's door just so it won't rattle as bad. Know now why there is a GMAC SUCKS website. All of you need to visit it.

$27,000 - it was loaded....everything. Got nothing but junk and trouble. Why can't I give (-) stars??? It doesn't deserve one!!!

Model Reviewed: LS 4wd 4dr Blazer

Strength:

I liked the looks, the size, good gas mileage for a 4x4 and I loved the way it drove in the beginning.

Weakness:

Since I bought this truck new in 1997, I have had nothing but problems. It started with the front brakes, I had to replace the front pads at 20k miles. The braking system in this truck 'SUCKS' to put it bluntly. The right-side pads where completely worn out while the left where 75% worn --- $150.00. The second failure was the 4WD electrical system had to be replaced at 40k miles twice -- $550.00. After the main electrical part to the 4WD drive system was fixed, the control module for the 4WD drive system had to be replaced -- $250.00. The next thing to go wrong was the ignition switch burn out at 42k miles and left my wife on the side of the road and not able to remove the keys or put the truck in park --- $350.00. Now the transmission is slipping serverly at 52k miles. That is going to cost me $3k to fix it and the new transmission only has a warranty for 3 yrs/50k miles.

The warranty for GM vehicles is horrible ---- 3yrs/36k miles for everything (bumber-to-bumper and powertrain).

Overall --- if you want to sink more money in a vehicle you need to buy this one and spend money until your heart is content.

I paid 22k for this Blazer in Nov. 1997 and since then I have put close to $3k in repairs back into and $3k to go on it.

I DO NOT recommend this vechile to anyone unless you hate them!

Strength:

We love the looks, the power, and the fact that it goes anywhere. It's not too big, but not too small either. It gets good gas mileage and is very roomy. We also love the towing capacity.

Weakness:

We had the exhaust come off at 45,000 miles. We also don't like that the lift kits are too expensive, and they don't make six inch lifts for it.

We paid 14,000 for our 1995 4wd 4door Blazer. It Blue Books at 18,000 and we think it was well worth the money. I have already recommended it to everyone I know (and even some I don't).

Similar Products Used:

The Ford Explorer doesn't even compare to the Chevy Blazer in regards to the handling, horsepower, or comfort. The Explorers are completely disposable, where as the Blazers will last a lifetime.
