Worst car/truck I ever owned. Just had to put in a new computer, fuel pump, alternator, etc, etc. Service engine lite came on const. from the 1st week I owned car. Dealer always made excuses, said was just a computer glitch. Always had some sort of electical problem that could not be found by dealer. Went through 4 batteries, car would not start for years when sat for 3+days. Got no satisfaction from GM or Dealer. Brother and cousin work for GM, but even that incentive will not lead me to by another GM product. Even got a recall today, almost 5 years later, on something regarding the Breaking system. Don't even consider it. Similar Products Used: 1995 Blazer |

Strength:
Most powerful 6cyl. engine I have ever seen.
Weakness:
Too much plastic on the inside causes alot of rattles. I have a 97 2dr. Blazer that has been very reliable for me. Except when I first got it the service engine soon light stayed on. Unfortunately it took them 5 or 6 times in the first 3 months I owned it to figure out what was wrong. Once that was taken care of it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. After the new car thing wore off I decided to get it muddy, since it has been buried in mud up to the bumpers "which I still drove it out of" and climbed hills of 18" inches plus of snow on farm fields. It is by far the best 4x4 I have ever driven, and after pulling some of my buddies driving rival 4x4's out I feel that I am entitled to a few bragging rights. But it doesn't see off road action too much these days, I am more committed to keeping it clean and maintained. After a washing and good waxing it still looks brand new, could be due to the fact that it is 2 and 1/2 years old, only has 15000 miles on it and I have added a few truck accessories. At any rate it still looks very impressive and turns a lot of heads as I drive around town. Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco, Dodge Darango, Jeep Wrangler |

Blazer 2 door 2wd
Strength:
Good brakes, and it has good amopunt room up front and in back for 6 footers.
Weakness:
Small, not enough room to haul stuff. Spare tire in the way, hard to see out the back window becasue of the head rests get in the way. It is a good suv, except for a few things. The head rests get in the way on the view of the rear window. The spare tire cuts down on cargo space. The plastic inside parts are cheap, they keep popping off. An example of this is the plastic that is on the inside back side of the from doors. If you accidentally get too close to this plastic piece and brush up against it pops off, then you have to hit it to pop it back on. Also the plastic piece on the left bottom of the driver seat, has a problem of popping off. The rubber pieces on the outside of my blazer are also coming off. Other than those small problems it is a great driving SUV. It has no problems engine wise. It does have great brakes, and it drives great. It does have good rom inside for several 6 footers. So all in all it's not a bad Suv. The only real complaint that I have is that the spare tire needs to be moved elsewhere. The head rests need to be redone so you cna see out of the back window. LS BLAZER

4.3L V6 AND TURBOHYDRA-MATIC TRANSMISSION. GOOOD RIDE AND HANDLING (FOR AN SUV) ALONG WITH DECENT EXTERIOR FIT AND FINISH (FOR A GM PRODUCT). EXCELLENT SEATS AND GOOD SPACE UTILIZATION. AND THE GAS MILEAGE (CONDSIDERING IT'S AN SUV)IS NOT THAT BAD.
Weakness:
AS EVERY BIT AS TROUBLESOME AS MY 1991 S10 BLAZER WAS. CHEVROLET CANNOT BUILD AN S10 SUSPENSION THAT DOES NOT GO THROUGH LOWER BALL JOINTS WITHIN 40,000 MILES. THIS ONE ALSO WENT THROUGH AN IDLER ARM, RT FRONT AXLE, AND A FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT BEFORE 40,000 MILES. THEN AT 45,000 MILES THE WIPER MOTOR WENT SOUTH. TOOK CHEVROLET OVER A YEAR TO FIND A BAD RATTLE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT. AFTER HAVING THE DASH COMPLETELY REMOVED TWICE TO ATTEMPT, IN VAIN, TO FIND THE RATTLE, CHEVROLET ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ADVSING THAT THE HOOD SUPPORTS FOR THE HINGES COULD HAVE BOLTS THAT LOOSEN SLIGHTLY CAUSING A BAD RATTLE. THIS TOOK 2 VISITS SINCE THE BOLTS LOOSENED UP A SECOND TIME. EVEN THOUGH THE HANDLING IS NOT BAD (FOR AN SUV) THERE IS LOTS OF BODY ROLL (DESPITE STABILIZER BARS FRONT AND REAR), MUCH MORE THAN MY 1994 S10 BLAZER. BRAKES ARE VERY PRONE TO FADING BUT I BLAME A LOT ON THE PAD/SHOE MATERIAL SINCE MANY OF THE MANUFACTURERS ARE DOING AWAY WITH ASBESTOS IN THE LININGS. IN THE SPRING I WILL REPLACE THE SHOES AND PADS WITH REPLACEMENTS MANUFACTURED BY WAGNER. THAT FIXED A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON MY 1994 S10 BLAZER. VENTALATION SYSTEM IS VERY INDIFFERENT. SIDE DEFROSTERS PRODUCE NOTHING - ABSOLUTELY NO AIR, HOT OR COLD. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYWAY TO MAKE THESE WORK. FLOOR VENTS DUMP LOTS OF HOT AIR FROM THE HEATER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHILE THE PASSENGER GETS A MINIMAL AMOUNT. DASH VENT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE IS VIRTUALLY USELESS. AND I TRIED THE HEATING/VENTALATION SYSTEM OUT ON 2 OTHER 1997 BLAZERS WITH THE SAME RESULTS. I HAVE BOUGHT GM VEHICLES FOR OVER 30 YEARS BUT WOULD HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME RECOMMENDING THE 1997 BLAZER BASED ON THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD. IN THE YEAR 2000 I WILL REPLACE THE 1997 AND WILL STRONGLY CONDSIDER THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OR THE FORD EXPLORER. Similar Products Used: 1991 AND 1994 S10 BLAZERS |

Good engine power 190 hp, nice exterior, Leather & heated seats, power everything, Good visibility, allot of cargo space, nice sound system and love the 4X4 on the fly shift. No problems so far ...
Weakness:
Some Interior noise, but not significant. Thirsty engine. For the price I paid ($21500 CAD), fully loaded LT model with 58000 KM. No other SUV I saw could beat it. Power is nice but did you see the 2002 Trailblazer 270 hp ... MAN ... I test drove Ford Escape, nice but interior is crappy, and little small for me. Blazer is the best fit for me. Pathfinder older model (not 2001) had less power than Blazer. Ford Explorer, just too bulky I think. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder, Test drove Ford Escape. |

I LOVE my new 2001 Blazer! I'm impressed with the smooth ride. The radio system is awesome. Brakes great! Impressive "get up" when accelerating.
Weakness:
not much to say here so far except alittle less I absolutely refused to get a "SUV" due to major problems in the news of the last couple of years, HOWEVER, due to terrible legs and needing a higher vehicle (for ez access in and out), we test drove the 2001 Blazer. It's a fun car to drive if you don't mind the noise. It has digital gauges that are kinda cool if you don't get annoyed. Easy to make look good? You bet.

suspension system Recommended for new drivers that want a cheap hunk-a-metal to get around in that you know will have a couple minor problems. Similar Products Used: None |

Have owned a 1992 and a 1996 4x4 Blazers. Rented at 2001 Blazer for several days.
Weakness:
2001 is junk. Suspension and power steering changes make the 2001 feel like a boat mobile. LOTS of body roll, felt unsafe at 50 mph, lots of play in stearing. JUNK JUNK. Chev engineer that made these changes needs to be sent to the UE office!! OUr 1992 provided years of service. Cab heater core is hard to get to. No problems with our 1996 yet! 2001 4x4 Blazer is junk. Road feel and handeling sucks big time. Similar Products Used: None |

THE 4.3 LITER V6 IS TROUBLE RIDDEN. AS A DEALER, I HAVE HAD OVER A DOZEN BLAZERS AND JIMMY'S . AT BEST THEY ARE GOOD FOR 30,000 MILES. THE OLDER 4.3 L ENGINES HAVE CAMSHAFT PROBLEMS. THEY ALL HAVE EGR PROBLEMS ,CLOGGING UP WITH CARBON. THE BODIES RUST , BOTTOMS OF THEDOORS AND RANDOM AREAS OF RECYCLED METAL. THE BODIES DEVELOP RATTLES AND THE DOOR HARDWARE WEARS EARLY. THE STEERING WHEEL AND SEAT MATERIALS WEAR OUT IN LESS THAN 50OOO MILES. THE ALL TIME FOUR WHEEL DRIVES DEVELOP AN UNCURABLE VIBRATION. ON AND ON. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FOR A CUSTOMER....NISSAN PATHFINDERS, JEEP CHEROKEES, EVEN MITSUBISHI'S ARE A FAR BETTER INVESTMENT. SEE ABOVE Similar Products Used: ALL |
