Strength:

I liked the way it looked, aggresive and rugged

Weakness:

new problems every week
had no power gutless

ohhhh... worst investment I made. Problems after problems. The first day my family and I drove it home from the dealership the engine went out "@#*%^$$$!!" So we got a new engine, then... the transmission failed "#@!$%$%*&^". A year later the engine compartment caught on fire, wiring needed to be redone. The Blazer sqeaked and rattled all the time. AC, heater, and carburetor went out. Every week it was in the repair shop for something. Parts were difficult to find for it being an old model. After the new transmission it still had problems it was slipping when I went on freeway onramps. A loud noise could be heard when it was in 4x4 mode. And I heard the '83 S-10 series are notorious for transmission problems. The power of the Blazer was gutless, my 4-cylinder Toyota has more power than the Blazer. I dont know why I kept it for so long, but now it is scrap metal.

Strength:

Liked the looks of the truck and seemed to pick up in power as we broke it in.

Weakness:

Terrible blind spots. Transmission had to be replaced around 2,000 miles. Dealership says they replaced it, but it sounded even worse when we got it back. Seems to be driving out of it. If it doesn't, we bought extended 3-year warranty. Will just try to get it fixed until we decide whether we think it's worth messing with.

Liked the looks of the truck. Liked price we picked it up for, until we had problems with the standard transmission at about 2,000 miles. Interior is nice.

I can't believe what I've read here about the Blazer. I had a 92 and only had problem with ABS light and was fixed the 1st time. Bought a 1999 Trail Blazer (1st year they made this model) and was totally satisfied. Never had to take it in for anything and had 39k on it when I traded it for the New 2002 LTZ. Now let me tell you about this vehicle. It is totally re-designed and I consider it one hell of a ride! Smooth, powerful, lots of room, loaded with Cadillac features and handles like a sports car. I mean this is one nice SUV! I am extremly impressed with the styling and comfort the vehicle has. The new 4200 Vortex inline 6 motor has ALOT of power. I thought my 99 Trail Blazer was nice, but after I test drove this one I knew then and there that I had to have it. Don't know how the reliability will be but if it was like my other one I will be a happier guy. Check one out at the dealer and you'll see what I mean. This thing is bad to the bone!

i can't afford to own and repair it on a weekly basis. i never should have gotten rid of my toyota 4-runner!!!!!

i do not like car pooling to work, but after buying a 1996 blazer, i had no other choice!! car pooling allowed me the chance to take my blazer into the shop every other day!!! i thank god thank i can change my own brake pads, and know how to change alternators!!!! 3 recalls- 1. wiring harness for the windshield wipers. 2. abs my wife rear ended someone because the truck skidded just like we didn't have abs!!! one week later my son rear ended someone the same way. hhhmmm! my insurance paid, not chevy! 3. AND NOW I FIND OUT THE FUEL TANK HAS BEEN RECALLED!!! it can leak. that is nice to find out after smoking cigarettes in my truck all this time!!!

Very reliable

Weakness:

Just had tranmission fluid leaking, I was towing my boat which is 3500# for 3hours in 90+ degree heat. Dealer found no leaks, the fluid I guess was coming out of the over flow. They recommended an addional transmission cooler, I bought a high grade and have not had the problem since. GM say's I can tow up to 5000# and they say I don't need a cooler, I would recommend getting one. By putting the cooler in helped reduce the heat that the raditor had to deal with.

Love the Truck! I have 76,000 miles on it. Great handeling, ride is good, Great gas mileage compared to my friends Ford Explorer, Great for towing my boat, every weekend in summer, Never leaked any oil, replaced battery once, changed brake pads three times which the second time I bought life time warranty pads, and I've been extremly good at following the maintenance sechedule. I would buy again and looking forward to the new trail blazer

Strength:

Looks good, nice interior.

Weakness:

Breaks down way too often. I have a problem with the transmition, keeps slipping. I have to stop, and shift into park for it to resolve itself. It's an intermittent problem so the only way I can have it fixed is if the thing totally falls apart (knowing the history of this vehicle I'm sure it will). Please do yourself a favour and buy something else.

This IS the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I've had it for just over one year and it has been in the shop six times. The dealership will soon get tired of hearing me because I'm going to get louder every time I go in there. Money,Money,Money that's what you'll be handing out if you decide to purchase one of these poorly made trucks. I would also be interested if there are any Canadians out there interested in filing a class action suit againts GM or if there are any suits presently filed. Please feel free to e-mail me at danwhalen007@hotmail.com thanks.

Looks,and power(when it runs)!

Weakness:

Constant problems and no support fro chevy.

The 1995 chevy blazer is by far the worst vehicle chevy has ever built!
I have owned mine for 3 years and have replaced just about every part on the thing. In Oct.'00 I replaced the engine due to gas leaking into the middle cylinder on the passenger side. Then two weeks ago the catalytic converter went. Now to my trip home from vacation last week. After driving 450 miles up to Maine then going 100 miles on back roads, on the last 45 miles of my return trip my service engine soon light came on.About 10 minutes after that I started hearing a ticking sound, which got louder shortly thereafter. While looking for a place to pull over the ticking suond became a metal on metal rapping sound and taht was all she wrote,Engine #2 up in smoke. It's under warranty, but as soon as I can I'm going to trade it for a Mitsubishi Montero sport.

Great Look, appears to be sporty and easy get-up and go S.U.V. Nice Curves and great options (When they work) Appears to be a good vehicle built solid and sturdy. Good extended warranty will repair all of the numerous break-downs. (You will use the warranty alot)

Weakness:

Crapy construction, constantly breaking down. Try to return or trade back in and Chevy won't want anything to do with you.
"Hey isn't that the tow truck again?"

CONGRATS CHEVY!
You pulled one over on me! Chevy has built a vehicle that breaks a few days after you drive it off the lot!
Here's the horor story of a 2001 Chevy LS 4 Dr with a starting mileage of 08 miles.

Month #1: Hears poping sound from front when vehicle is attempting a hard turn, also front power windows won't operate up or down with out making excessive noise. - Result- Lubed front tie rods, lubed front window tracks and successfully received attitude from the "Crack staff" noise(s) disappeared.

Month #2: Hot air entering through Vent flap when vehicle operates in MAX AC at speeds of 75M.P.H. -Explanation from the "Crack Staff"- "All Blazers do this, there is nothing we can do about it. You're gonna have to get use to it."

Month #3: Notices Transmition starting to slip, 2 weeks after initial incident, transmition "gives up the ghost" at 4,100 miles (Towed to dealership). -Result- My favorite place to hang out becomes the Chevy Dealership! (Notice the hint of sarcasm) The staff works on the transmission places in new gasket. Treats me with No respect and informs me that "The vehicle did not do anything like that while they had it for the 2 days."
Current: This is now begining Month #4 the transmition still slips. Just went to dealership they tell me that if I was to trade The Blazer in I would get 14,00k. WOW THAT IS $13,000 LESS THAN WHAT I PAYED FOR IT 4 MONTHS AGO AND IT IS IN THE SAME CONDITION only 4,500 miles used!

DO YOUSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T BUY A BLAZER!!!!!! (Unless you like to live at the Chevy dealership, and being treated like you making stuff up)
Keep it up, only acouple more and I'll qualify for the Lemon Law!!!!!

Strength:

I love the looks and the color of my Blazer. The leather interior is nice too. Very compact and Easy to manuver in parking lots. 4-wheel drive works great in the snow.

Weakness:

Goes through brake pads like crazy--Unsafe if ball joint just snaps at 43,000 miles.

Bought this vehicle new because I Loved the two-tone color combination of Teal/Silver. It still looks great, but have had nothing but problems from the 1st day it came home. Sunroof leaked, then battery kept going dead--they finally found out this was the light staying on from vanity mirror. After 700 miles GM Called to say check the oil--level--it was at bottom of the dipstick-GM Recalled for mis-alligned valvue springs, but claims that it is within specifications for blazers to burn 1 Quart of oil every 750 Miles if you can belive that. At 43,000 miles this vehicle passed inspection in March 2001 after dealer charged me $85.00 to replace the serpentine belt. Drove 516 Miles after inspection with my 8 year old daughter in the back seat my passenger wheel FELL OFF! I had no steering and no brakes going down a big hill. Luckily we were not injured. The ball joint just snapped off clean. My dealer blamed this on me since they claim there was no grease on the ball joint. From what I have been told the ball joints have factory sealed grease fittings which leak, and then it is common for the ball joint to just snap off. I now have 43,000 miles and need my 4th set of new brakes. I no longer feel safe in this vehicle, and I am trading it in for a Dodge Durango. Visit the Durango reviews--Most of them are positive. After reading other Blazer reviews, I don't have any more doubts about getting rid of this vehicle. If you own a Blazer--Please may sure to have your Ball Joint Grease fittings checked--Your safety depends on it!

Strength:

Style, comfortable ride, engine.

Weakness:

Where do I begin? It rattles more than the old transit buses, brakes are horrible, eats fuel injectors like candy (I replaced four so far and GM knows they are defective and won't recall them), poor fit and finish.

After reading some of the other reviews, I feel lucky compared to some of the other nightmare stories on this vehicle. I have 130,000 miles and I only spent about $6,000 on total repairs, not counting routine maintenance. This vehicle has so many defective parts (fuel injectors and pumps, wiper motor, brakes, catalytic converter, etc.) that the only quality components are the engine and transmission. Everything else falls apart. Best advise is not to replace the parts by GM. Needless to say, the reliability, fit and finish of this vehicle is extremely poor. No wonder more people are buying toyota, nissan and honda vehicles because you only have to do routine maintenance. This is the first American vehicle I have owned (I've owned nissans and toyota with no problems) and definitely will be the last. GM and their dealerships don't care about there customers and they definitely will not back their products. I will keep this truck until the engine is shot or when I go over the $9,000 repair bill, but I will never purchase another GM, Chrysler or Ford and my children will never purchase one either. My final advise to anyone thats crazy enough to consider buying a used Blazer is "BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!
