Strength:

Good ride from the Bilstein shocks, if you want it to continue use OEM replacement although the price will deprive your kids their Christmas presents. Style is nice, they look pretty when shined up in the driveway.

Weakness:

Poor plastic interior wise, see a lot of potential nickle and dime stuff in the future. 4L60-E transmission has lots of bugs, most of which are related to its manufacture and quality control.

Not a bad vehicle for the money. Interior is fairly comfortable and laid out OK. I knew it was not a Caddy when I bought it but I have always been loyal to Chevy. Noticed right away that overall quality is really not there. Plastic components are poor quality, and have to fix door hinge on driver side. I am pretty good with cars and do a lot of my own work including emissions related problems. If you are a shadetree mechanic do yourself a favor and buy an OBD-2 code scanner-you will need it! At 42K threw a code DTC 1870(transmission problem) and am currently talking with GM about assistance in costs. How they handle this will determine my future relationship with them. Seems the 4L60-E transmission is loaded with quirks, many at the manufacturing end. Funny thing was that I chose the blazer because of the hydramatic transmission. My dad has a caravan and he is on his third transmission to date. For some reason all of the manufacturers(domestic) are having problems with electronically assisted transmission reliability. I raced Chevys in the sixties and early seventys and the old turbo 400 could take a whole season before a rebuild. I would not mind if the box had 80 or 100K miles, but to have what appears a major failure at 47K is a little hard to handle. Gonna get it fixed, and will probably recover nothing with which to purchase another vehicle because of their very rapidly falling resale value. Told my wife I am looking for a 1986 to 1988 Monte Carlo SS, and I will put in a motor and trans if necessary. At least I can get a decent trans and a good'ole 350 is a heck of a lot more reliable that the garbage they put out today. I have a theory, with so many people leasing today I think the manufacturers are shooting for 36K and after that its your nickle. No matter how well you maintain a modern car or light truck I really do not think any of us will see 100K miles without spending a good portion of the cars worth in repairs.

This is our second Blazer. Styling and comfort are acceptable, but from a hard core reliability standpoint my old 1988 Dodge Ramcharger had a lot more miles logged before it needed any major work.

Strength:

Looks good sitting in the driveway.

Weakness:

Transmission, upper and lower ball joints and control arm assemblies, door hinges, wipers, brakes, fuel gauge

This is our 2nd Blazer, but will be our last. Had to replace the transmission because of defective part. Having problems with the wipers not always working, hinges on drivers door are shot (bushings worn out)and now door will not always close or line up with the latch. Have already replace upper control arm and waiting for the ball joints to fail (we went thru 4 sets upper and lower on our previous Blazer). It seems the newer Blazers still have the faulty design. The fuel gauge has quit working and the gas mileage is what I would expect from a full size truck. Anyone thinking about purchasing a Blazer should review the comments that have been logged on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) web site. We've experienced just about all of them. Anyone that had their transmission fail, we had some luck getting money back from GM for the repairs we had to make. Latest recall campaign under way with the NHTSA is the failure of the upper and lower control arms and ball joint assemblies that could cause loss of steering.

Strength:

The look of the car, it is spacious and can carry alot of things!

Weakness:

The gas milage is awful! The car makes too many noises! The gas acceleration is not great either.

I wanted an SUV and the Blazer was the cheapest SUV. The gas milage is awful and the car makes so many noises. I haven't had to repair anything major yet, but I am sure $1000s of dollars worth of repairs are lurking around the corner. The ride is rough, like a truck, although the car is roomy.

I had a 1993 Nissan Sentra before this which was junk, worse than the Blazer. So in comparison to the Sentra, much better.

looks, features, power---CHEVY!!!!

Weakness:

Loud engine roar when accelerating--same problem my s10 pickup had!!

My Blazer is all black with dark window tint and looks sharp!!!! A real head turner!!! It has great handling, and good pick up, and is very driver friendly! I have owned many chevy's in the past so i am giving the Blazer a shot. This (2001) is the last year of the Blazer, because Chevy has come out with the new Trailblazer, so i got an overall good deal on it!!

Model Reviewed: Chevrolet

Strength:

It is extremely comfortable and great in bad weather. A good strong tow vehicle too when things are running right.

Weakness:

Well the list would never end but ill try to make a long story short. Chevy Blazers are notorious for there bad fuel systems and injection, right now it wont even start because of a bad fuel pump. Also if you are looking for a fast vehicle, dont choose a blazer.

My Chevrolet Blazer is a good comfortable vehicle, it has leather bucket seats and plenty of room in the front and back. Despite how comfortable and how nice it looks, there were several expensive and complicated repairs that had to be done to it and that will need to be done with it. Even the dealer that does the repairs on my vehicle told me to get rid of it before its too late, but the vehicle fits me so right that i could never part with it. If you would like a great comfortable ride and have money to spare for repairs go for the blazer. If you need something reliable and good on gas buy a focus.

I also have a 93 silverado and a 98 tahoe also from chevy that are absolutely amazing compared to my blazer. These trucks never seem to leave me stranded like my blazer.

Model Reviewed: S-10 Blazer 4x4 LT

Strength:

Automatic 4x4 is excellent. I was very unsure about it at 1st, However, I test drove in the middle of January at -30 Fahrenheit. The performance was good enough that I had to have it.

Weakness:

Even though pulling my snowmobiles is a easy task for the Blazer, I would like to have a little more horsepower.

I am very happy with this vehicle. Before purchasing I looked at the Ford Explorer V-8(Gas Hog), Ford Explorer V-6(Gutless Wonder) and the Dodge Durango which was too expensive when adding comparable features to the Blazer. My Blazer is (LOADED) to include Leather, Power Everything, Climate Control and Auto 4x4. I have driven it once from Anchorage, Alaska to Seattle, Washington and Back... And from Anchorage, Alaska to New York City and I have not had a single problem with the truck. I would recommend this vehicle if you drive in the Winter as much as I. It may not be as practical if you live in the warm part of the country.

My blazer is superior to my 1990 Ford F-250 4x4 & 1984 K5 Blazer in all areas. Only my 1999 Audi A4 is better.
